What Is Docetism?

Docetism is an ancient heresy that says Jesus was not fully human. According to Docetism, he seemed to be human, but because Jesus was fully divine, he had no physical body. Therefore, the form people saw was essentially a ghost.
In this video, Michael Bird explains docetism and why it's wrong.

I remember reading some docetists claimed Jesus wasn't crucified. Instead according to them, Jesus tricked the Romans to think Simon of Cyrene (the guy who helped Jesus carry the cross) was Jesus thus Simon got crucified in Jesus' place. Jesus then proceeded to laugh at this. No really.

Sounds like Islam Alpha testing...A lot of their ideas came from earlier Christian heretics.

What about Islamic View of Jesus? Is that a Heresy too or Simple Belief ?

Simple or complex don't determine the truth why appeal to simplicity over truth? Islam is a pure heresy and false according to Christianity lol.

@@junkim5853 it depends on wear you come from. The Byzantine Empire (the centre of christian civilisation) liked the muslims a lot better than their catholic neighbours and also considered gnosticism a far greater threat. Christians even started adapting certain islamic theories which is what lead to the Iconoclast Crisis

@@364Leinad What does that had to with my response to Hassan's claim here buddy? Second just because one sect of Christians liked Muslims far better than another sect of Christians doesn't mean Islam isn't heretical according to Christianity. Just because some Christians adapted minor Islamic beliefs doesn't mean Islam itself is accepted in Christianity. No Christians accept that Jesus didn't die in the crucifixion. No Christians accept Muhammad as a prophet, no Christians accept the Quran, the Sunnah/Hadiths, Al-Tabari, the Tafsirs, and many of Islam's most trusted sources. Some Muslims claim their religion to be logical yet they fail to make logical arguments. They always appeal to the simplicity of the Tawhid as proof that Tawhid is true when something being simple has nothing to do with being true at all. I mean if you want to appeal to Christians being fond of some Islamic beliefs I can do the same and say that many Muslims believe in the Christian doctrine of divine simplicity, heck you can say this doctrine provides the foundation of the Tawhid itself. Nevertheless, should I use this argument to suggest that Christianity is not a heresy against Islam? Come on now stop being absolutely silly and ridiculous.

@@364Leinad Also, your first sentence doesn't make sense at all either. First off, what do you mean when you say, "it depends on where you come from." In the topic of this discussion where you come from absolutely doesn't matter. Christianity condemns and declares the Islamic view of Jesus as a Heresy, even the Unitarians will reject the Islamic view of Jesus as well. Go study all of Christian history, not one has any view similar or exactly the same to Muslim's view of Jesus.

Here's a fact: Jesus, the human being was an illusory being, just as you are....because MATTER IS AN ILLUSORY SENSE, not a reality! "If I speak of myself, I bear witness to a lie"(because the material world is an illusion) Of mine own self I can do nothing. of mine own self I am nothing.(Because the material world is an illusion) "Resist Not Evil"(Don't acknowledge error. It's an illusory sense) The Activity of Truth in the Consciousness of the illusory being known to the world as Jesus gave us the OUTLINE TO the UNFOLDING of an ILLUMINED CONSCIOUSNESS, albeit the human mind cannot understand it so it was turned into a religious practice. Jesus was not the first nor the last to do this, as Buddha, Shankara, Meister Eckhart, Emilie Cady, and a host of others have also imparted this truth!!

Right….just because every baby you’ve met is definitely a cryer doesn’t mean Jesus cried. As for Docetism…….Jesus constantly says statements that go against the Old Testament. This is what docetism is……Jesus tries to tell people that the God of the Old Testament isn’t quite right….something is wrong or off! Jesus continually states that what is being talked about in the Old Testament isn’t what he is preaching…….he tells us to distance ourselves from it, why would he do that if the one God (the God of the Old Testament) be correct? I don’t understand.

@@HearGodsWord Jesus consistently says things like “Moses said to you this, but I say unto you this”…..in other words what Moses was telling people to do at that point is now wrong at this point. He literally tries to distance himself from the Old Testament over and over again. I don’t know exact references for you to look at but they’re easy to find as the gospels aren’t that long and he does it all of the time. @@benjimanlee the way I've understood it, and have heard others talk, is that with the coming of Jesus there is a new covenant between God and his people, which replaces/updates the old covenant e.g. removing some of the ceremonial laws and sacrifices. That also seems to be hinted at by Paul in his epistle to the Galatians.
