What is difference between Goloka and Vaikuntha?

Музыка

Question: What is difference between Goloka and Vaikuntha?
And on what basis is it decided that a soul will go to Vaikuntha or Goloka?
Answer: These are two separate but related questions so we will answer them together.
Go means cow and loka means abode.
So Goloka is the spiritual abode of the cows where Shyamasundara Krishna is eternally engaged in His pastimes with the cows, cowherd men and cowherd women.
Vai is a modified prefix (upasarga) which has a sense of negation and kuntha means anxiety.
So Vaikuntha is place without anxieties.
Vaikuntha has several Vaikuntha planets - each presided by Narayana the Lord of Vaikuntha.
Both Vaikuntha and Goloka are beyond the material realms and essentially spiritual.
This much is common.
However there are three main differences -
1) The Lord of Goloka is Krishna and the Lord of Vaikuntha is Narayana
2) The inhabitants of Vaikuntha have a different spiritual sentiment or rasa compared to the inhabitants of Goloka. 3)The bliss (ananda) one experiences in Goloka is much more than the bliss in Vaikuntha.
It is mentioned in the Brahma Samhita:
goloka-namni nija-dhamni tale ca tasya
devi mahesa-hari-dhamasu tesu tesu
te te prabhava-nicaya vihitas ca yena
govindam adi-purusam tam aham bhajami
“I adore the primeval Lord Govinda, who resides in His personal abode named Goloka, below which are the respective realms of Maya Devi, Lord Shiva and the Lord of Vaikuntha, Narayan. Lord Govinda alone allots each of these abodes and their presiding deities with their particular powers”. (Brahma Samhita 5.47)
In fact there are six divisions in the spiritual sky:
Goloka Vrindavana, Navadvipa, Mathura, Dvaraka, Ayodhya and Vaikuntha - with the highest bliss found in Goloka.
As Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura puts it in Sri Sajjana Tosani, Interview with Professor Johans - Head of the Department of Philosophy, St. Xaviers College:
“The bliss available in Ayodhya is better than that in Vaikuntha; the bliss in Dwaraka is superior to that in Ayodhya; and the bliss of the denizens of Goloka is the climax of all bliss.
The difference in the degree of a particular Rasa or sentimental mellowness is the cause of the difference in the degree of the bliss.
Even the afflictions and distresses that may be there in Goloka dance on the crest of all forms of blisses and happinesses; these are rather nourishers of the highest form of bliss.”
The superiority of bliss available in Goloka is also demonstrated in the exchange between Lord Caitanya and Vyenkata Bhatta where we learn that even Laksmidevi - the eternal consort of Narayana hankers to enter the rasa dance in Goloka. (Cc Madhya 9.111-138)
The intensity of attraction and affection one possesses towards Krishna determines the abode where a living entity would reach.
Krishna reciprocates in proportion to ones desires by facilitating the devotees existence in an abode where the devotee is able to serve the Lord in his or her predominant mood.
This is confirmed in the Bhagavad Gita (9.6) with the words - ye yatha mam prapadyante, tams tathaiva bhajamy aham.
If a soul reveres Krishna as his Lord and King and desires to become His servant then he may serve in Dvaraka.
If a soul wants to lovingly serve Lord Ramachandra then he may serve in Ayodhya.
If a soul has spontaneous, unalloyed devotion towards Krishna as his child then he may serve in Goloka as Krishna’s Uncle or Aunt or a senior gopa or gopi.
The practitioners of spontaneous, loving, pure devotional service to Krishna (raganuga-bhaktas) reach Krishna’s abode of Goloka.
Whereas those who practice devotional service following strict regulative principles (vaidhi-bhaktas) reach Vaikuntha or other spiritual planets.
Categorising in terms of what spiritual sentiments (rasas) exist in Vaikuntha and Goloka one can understand that in Vaikuntha planets Lord Narayana can be worshiped with only two-and-half rasas or spiritual sentiments namely, santa (neutral), dasya (servitorship), and half sakhya (friendship).
This half sakhya (friendship) of Vaikuntha takes the shape of formal respectful friendship.
Beyond Vaikuntha lies Goloka where the embodiment of all rasas resides; the twelve rasas being : five principal rasas namely, santa (neutral), dasya (servitorship), sakhya (friendship), vatsalya (parental) and madhurya (conjugal); and seven subsidiary rasas namely, hasya (humourous), adbhuta (wonderment), karuna (pity), raudra (anger), vira (chivalry), bhayanaka (fearsome), vibhatsa (horror).
Lord Krishna is worshipped by all the twelve rasas.

The rishi Narayana among Nara and Narayana was himself Sriman Narayana and that Sriman Narayana in Dwapara yuga was named Krishna. He came on earth with his full power and potencies thats why we can see he was such a powerful, and mischievious. All the leelas of him, power in war and every gunas were so adorable because in that yuga he didn't hide his potencies like he did in Rama avatar. And every form of Hari is non other than Sriman Narayana whether it be Narsingha, Vamana or Varah or Sriniva Venkateshwara. It's like he just changes clothes but he doesn't change himself or his qualities, sometime his qualities may come out more some times less according to the situation. Kisse kyaa pata hoga yrr? Vagwan ki bhakti k liye Mahabbarata aur Ramayana racha gaya thaa. In dono itihas mai sirf aur sirf hame bhagwan ke aage surrender kar dena chaiye aisa kaha gaya hai. The main purpose of our life is Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. To get moksha we should surremder to god by anyways which is the easiest and best way to get Moksha. Bhagwan k dhaam ka varnan kohi nahi kar sakta, isiliye waha dance hota hai ya nahi, waha yummy foods hota hai yaa nahi, aisa question mat karo. The final and orthodox position is that of the Vedas i.e. Nārāyaṇa Sūktam. nā̱rāya̱ṇa pa̍ro jyo̱tir-ātmā nā̍rāya̱ṇaḥ pa̍raḥ | nā̱rāya̱ṇa pa̍raṃ-bra̱hma̱ ta̱ttvaṃ nā̍rāya̱ṇaḥ pa̍raḥ || 4 || 4. Whatsoever there is in this universe known through perception or report; all that is pervaded by Narayana within and without. Srimad Bhagvadgita as it is 8.16 आब्रह्मभुवनाल्ल‍ोका: पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन । मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते ॥ १६ ॥ ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino ’rjuna mām upetya tu kaunteya punar janma na vidyate Synonyms ā-brahma-bhuvanāt - up to the Brahmaloka planet; lokāḥ - the planetary systems; punaḥ - again; āvartinaḥ - returning; arjuna - O Arjuna; mām - unto Me; upetya - arriving; tu - but; kaunteya - O son of Kuntī; punaḥ janma - rebirth; na - never; vidyate - takes place. Translation From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kuntī, never takes birth again. Purport All kinds of yogīs - karma, jñāna, haṭha, etc. - eventually have to attain devotional perfection in bhakti-yoga, or Kṛṣṇa consciousness, before they can go to Kṛṣṇa’s transcendental abode and never return. Those who attain the highest material planets, the planets of the demigods, are again subjected to repeated birth and death. As persons on earth are elevated to higher planets, people on higher planets such as Brahmaloka, Candraloka and Indraloka fall down to earth. The practice of sacrifice called pañcāgni-vidyā, recommended in the Chāndogya Upaniṣad, enables one to achieve Brahmaloka, but if, on Brahmaloka, one does not cultivate Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then he must return to earth. Those who progress in Kṛṣṇa consciousness on the higher planets are gradually elevated to higher and higher planets and at the time of universal devastation are transferred to the eternal spiritual kingdom. Baladeva Vidyābhūṣaṇa, in his commentary on Bhagavad-gītā, quotes this verse: brahmaṇā saha te sarve samprāpte pratisañcare parasyānte kṛtātmānaḥ praviśanti paraṁ padam “When there is devastation of this material universe, Brahmā and his devotees, who are constantly engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, are all transferred to the spiritual universe and to specific spiritual planets according to their desires.”

How could there be difference between Vaikuntha and goloka for when both are one same God. If God is absolute truth, then how could be there difference?? Also the Vedas and even Bhagavad Purana only speaks of Vaikuntha, not Goloka. Just because one particular form of God displays more character than the other forms, doesn't make that form more supreme. For example, a professor teaches quantum mechanics to university students but he also teaches alphabet to his infant child. Does that mean the professor who is teaching his child alphabet less intelligent than the professor who is teaching quantum mechanics in university?? Sounds silly, doesn't it? Similarly depending on the situation, God displays his number of character.

Hey Bhagwan, I can't digest this yarr. In this world of different religions, our religions is most disputable I think. Christians have only one god jesus hence no dispute, Muslims have one allah (no dispute), but ours have dispute among different gods like Shiva, Vishnu and Shakti and Inside them to we have more disputes on vishnu which I think ISKCON created that. To glorify shri krishna they dominated Adi Narayana of vedas. I however still believe and devotee myself to lord krishna but dominating the same god Vishnu is what I can't digest. Vishnu, krishna, Ram, Hari all are absolute equal and are equally blissful. Krishna is Narayana, Narayana is Vishnu. Vishnu is himself Rama so, we also can conclude Rama spoke through geeta or Narayana was singing geeta. How can you even differentiate the same parabrahman Sreeman Narayana? And goloka dham is synonym of vaikuntha as well as saketa dham. Everywhere resides LaxmiNarayana as they are all pervading. How can you say goloka is more blissfull than vaikuntha ? both are same abode of Krishna bhagwan. As you all are saying that vaikuntha is office and goloka is home then that's a real shit thinking. If I were in vaikuntha I would ask my Vishnu to show me his leela as krishna because he would do that as I'm in vaikuntha and he is all fulfilling or even I can go to goloka dham from there to see krishna and ask him to turn Chaturbhuj Narayana like he showed to arjuna. All are same and equal. If you were comparing between Shiva and Krishna/Vishnu that would be a lil bit logical but between Vishnu himself? wow?

Goloka is a planet exists in Vakuntha. After the death of Sri Krishna, Lord Narayana manifested a new planet called Goloka for Sri Krishna. Not abode but a planet. Beyond Goloka there will Saket loka, planet of Lord Ram. Beyond that will be Mani Dvipa, abode or realm of Adi Sakthi, which is not Radhe. Beyond that will be Sadasiva loka. Creation story of ISKCON is based on Brahma vaivarta Purana. In that purana Sri Krishna created Trinity and Tri-Devi and also His Consort, Radhe. That They name her as Mula Pkiriti. But in Devi Bhagavatam, Mani Dvipa abode is considered far superior than Goloka, Vaikuntha and Kailasa. Adi Sakthi's consort is Lord Sadasiva. Lord Sadasiva is self-born deity, directly from Brahman and not Sri Krishna. He has no form, the first state of Siva. Then, He created Maha Bhagavati, then He manifested himself in a formless form state, second state of Shiva. Then, Maha Bhagavati created Purusha and Prikriti. Purusha will be Lord Narayana manifesting "Adi Shristi" or multi-verse.Prikriti or Lalitha Tripurasundari manifested universes. So, You ISKCON people are praying Lord Sri Krishna will go to Goloka. One that prays Lord Ram will go to Saket loka. One that prays respective God will go to respective abode. So, Goloka are just a planet not a realm. So, supreme abode or realm will be Sadasivaloka.

Yes but Vaisnavam Agama has less "expansion" on creation. Based on Vaisnavam Agama, Para-Vasudeva is supreme which is not Krisna (Avatar) who became Narayana. Thus, Narayana is supreme in Vaisnavam Agama. To study any books of Sanatana Dharma, we need (MUST) to know our agamas. I am a Saivist. Based on what you have said, I believe that you are Vaisnavam. Brahmavaivarta Purana contradict Vaisnavam Agama itself. Thus, it can be explained that the purana is interpolated. In my 2 years of study on this religion, I can conclude Lord Sadasiva is supreme. I have studied all sect's agamas, puranas, itihasa, darshanas, and Vedas. Ganapatya Sect is 6th, Kaumaram Sect is 5th, Sauram Sect is 4th and thus completing minor Sects. Vaisnavam Sect is 3rd, Sakta Sect is 2nd and Saivam Sect is 1st. This is based on the creation explanation of Sect of Sanatana Dharma. The reason Vaisnavam is in 3rd is that there is no mention of Sadasiva and Adi Para Sakthi. Thus, Lower than Sakta Sect. Sakta do mention both of them but they say Adi Para Sakthi is supreme and also they accept Sadasiva is supreme. So, Saivam is supreme. Iskcon is just a cult formed due to Demon Kali's Kali Yuga effect. I hope it explains and answers to your answer.

I'm talking on the basis of what i have read and understood so far. ok agreed that brahmavaivatra has been manipulated , but still the crux remains same. and yeah got to have a read of brahmavaivtra , it does talks of shiva loka , shakti loka. and as per what i have understood i would say that sadashiva is formless aspect of supreme god , where as Narayan is formed aspect of very same god. even purush sukta says that supreme being is husband of hree (shakti) and shree (lakshmi). so it's vishnu and shiva combined by logic. that supreme being only is referred as krishna in brahmvaivatra as it reads that krishna presides over shakti and lakshmi in goloka and with furthur expansions hree goes to shiva and shri goes to vishnu. even as per adi shankaracharya govinda is adi purush who existed before his avataar too and he sung shakti as power of god (shiva and vishnu) but never sung shakti's existance before shiva/vishnu. theory of brahmavaivatra nowhere contradicts to major puranas. btw i don't know where did you gather this ranking of sects from

The ranking is based on the creation ideas of the Sects, since I have read the agamas. Govindam Adi purusham by Adi Sankara where he mentioned Narayana as Govinda not individually. The palm leaves for brahmavaivarta Purana is found in Bengal where gaudiya Vaisnavam is prominent. Narayana as per Vishnu Purana is the supreme. There is no mention of Narayana's source as krisna. So, therefore brahmavaivarta Purana do contradict.Narayana's source is Vamadev of Sadasiva not directly from Sadasiva. Since I have gone through Adi sankara's govindam Adi purusham song. He mentions govindam of Bhagavad Gita. As per Mahabharata, Krisna is an avatar of Narayana and Bhagavata Purana confirms it also. My point is that Krsna is not the source of Narayana but Narayana Himself is the source of Avatar Krsna. Why Narayana is called as Govinda is because He is Govinda. For example, if I say Uma and Durga is different, will you accept it? For some people, Durga and Uma is different. But original both names goes to Sakthi, the same. This is how you explain to me just know.tq

Arwin Krishnamorthy sir , govindam adi purusham is from brahm samhita and not by shankaracharya. adi shankaracharya has written madhurashtakam , achyutashtakam , bhaja govindam and many more glorifying krishna. 2nd if you read bhagawat carefully it does talks of supreme being/maha vishnu entering hiranyagarbha and then having a sleep for several thousands daivik years. but here my intention is not to debate upon godhead , i just wanted to negate the shakt theory of creation. rest we are not that enlightened to give commentaries on godhead , he's way beyond our reach but the crux of brahmvaivatra is pure till date , our negation can't prove it wrong :) and yes very same brahm samhita says kshiram yatha dadhi vikara -vishesha -yogat sanjayate na hi tatah prithag asti hetoho yah shambhutam api tatha samupaiti karyad govindam adi - purusham tam aham bhajami Just as milk is transformed into curd by the action of vikaars , but yet the "curd " is neither the same as , nor different from, its milk , so I adore the Primeval Lord Govinda of whom the state of Sambu has evolved for the performance of the work of destruction. so , jai HariHara :)
