In this video, Dr. Praveen Tripathi is discussing the case history of a patient with the delusional disorder (delusion of infidelity type). This disorder is characterized by suspiciousness about the character of the partner. The clinical history is that the patient repeatedly has fights with the spouse and accuses the spouse of adultery or having an extramarital affair, or accuses the girlfriend/boyfriend of cheating. Usually checking behavior in the form of repeated checking of phone, what's app, emails is also involved. The patient is usually convinced that the partner is having an affair although there is no basis for this suspicion. This illness must be taken seriously as there is a possibility of violence against the partner or self-harm.
Dr. Praveen Tripathi is a renowned psychiatrist who practices in Delhi-NCR. He did his MBBS from the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS, Delhi) and MD (Psychiatry) from the prestigious Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS, Delhi). He also underwent training at the world-renowned Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, USA, and Kansas University Medical Centre, Kansas, USA. He is one amongst the few Indian doctors who have cleared the prestigious United States Clinical Skill examination that evaluates a doctor's clinical competency. Dr. Tripathi underwent training in the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy from Harvard Medical Centre, which is the topmost medical college in the USA.

Having spouse who displays delusions of infidelity towards me under the umbrella of narcissistic behaviour patterns makes life difficult for me. I have spent hundreds of hours learning about surviving narcissistic abuse but none of the professionals discuss othello syndrome within the context of narcissism. I would very much appreciate you discussing delusional jealousy displayed by narcissistic individuals.

I wish I could take him to get help but there is no way he will admit he's been wrong this whole time. I love him so much and yet he thinks I have done nothing but lie to him. I hate being in this situation so so much. My heart hurts. I have lost so much patience and ambition. I can't get out of bed in the mornings, I've lost clients because I'm unreliable, I keep missing work as I'd rather just sleep all day. I'm miserable because I'm being told I'm this horrible person when I'm doing everything I can to be a decent one. After this experience, I've learnt that i'd rather be cheated on than told I'm cheating when I'm not. At least with the first one you can call it a day and leave. You know what happened, and it can be ended. What I'm going through is a fight for trust, my reputation, dignity. I could potentially have his family and friends see me as someone who constantly cheated on their son when in fact I was only constantly trying to prove my love for him. I'm left questioning my worth just like someone who's been cheated on. I'm left thinking I'm just a suspicious person who will never be able to show my love for anyone without coming across as a lying cheater.

Hi Grace. Can I put you in contact with my mother? She is having the same problem with my father and it’s driving her crazy. She needs someone to talk to about it who can understand What she’s going through.. maybe it would be therapeutic for you to speak to her as well…?

@@ofvictimsandvillains @Of Victims and Villains I'm so sorry I missed your comment. I hope things are better for your mother since you wrote your reply. My partner and I are in a much better place now and I am positive we have made it through the worst of it. When I wrote the original comment I wasn't hopeful about our future at all, but today we are living without the burden of suspicion on our shoulders. It took some time apart and with minimal contact during that time. Then a big talk to reflect on everything that led us to needing that time apart/ how to prevent things from escalating so far in the future. Perhaps if your mother is still going through the hell that I was, it might comfort her to know all hope is not lost.

@@gracew2582 Hi Grace. I have read most of the Available literature on the subject of othello syndrome in my efforts to find some way to help my parents, and Have realized that there are multiple different root causes.. when the issue is caused by legions in the brain it can be somewhat of a hopeless situation. It comes down to whether it is pathological jealousy or delusional jealousy. Do you mind if I asked which of those you were dealing with?

Sir I have a question. I know a person who is having this Pathological Jealousy (Delusion of infidelity) problem & also he is aware of this. At this moment he is unmarried. Now my question is : can this person get married in future & have a healthy married life? Or, is this better to stay away from marriage because of the problem ?
