It works very well for single player in my experience and video compression is barely an issue. I also have no noticeable input lag using Amazon Luna service. I like it and feel the pros far outweigh any cons. Especially the "renting" of a game library rather then purchase of individual games with some services and no need for upgrading hardware or storage. Play your games anywhere a stable and fast internet connection is. For me its a total win.

I’m playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassins Creed on GeForce can’t complain. Runs smoothly, including Ray Tracing and it’s a lot cheaper than buying a 3070 from a Scalper on ebay.

  • @jdh9676

If the game is provided by the service its all saved in the cloud. You play and save just as if the game were stored on your computer. Open the service and the game you're playing and its just like its stored on your device although not. Some services like Shadow don't supply the games though. Just the hardware to run them and storage.

If AMD do what has been suggested and start adding more threads to their CPU's and in time go up to 8 per core and the broadband companies stop messing around, then sure cloud gaming will be the next big thing. That's just two things, so maybe in the next 5 to 10 years we could see it.

The day that cloud gaming companies stop saying "replace" the pc it will make a world of difference. I have a house full of kids and work 50 to 60 hours a week. I pay about 60 dollars a month for a few services that let me play pretty much any title I want anywhere I have good internet which I usually do on my phone or tablet. Allows me to keep my favorite hobby with me everywhere I go.

One day internet speeds and input will drastically increase and these services will be more than capable of being an alternative to buying expensive hardware, or even a complete replacement of them altogether. I see a future of virtual machines taking care of everything.

While clouds in general have seemed to be convenient for people, I myself still don't use regular clouds (I.e saving data on google drive.) I feel like when something is on a cloud you no longer own it. I like to own everything I use. If I was to use a cloud then it would have to be a cloud I set up at home for me to use. Regarding gaming I also like having a desktop PC to run my games.

@@ApatheticEuphoria Remember what happened to Megaupload? It was a file sharing website where several petabytes of files and data were lost without warning when the site was suddenly seized by the US government in 2012 because some users uploaded pirated content. Remember what happened to Onlive? It was another cloud gaming service but it was shut down because they sold their patent for the technology they used. Anyone who bought any games on Onlive can no longer access them whatsoever. Users could refund the console itself, but not their game purchases. Using cloud services can be good as a backup, but relying on nothing but cloud services is a bad idea. If I keep the files exclusively on my own computer, at least it's my fault if something goes wrong and I lose the files. It's stuff that I can take countermeasures to prevent. I don't really think I can take countermeasures to stop the US government from taking down a file sharing website I use, nor do I think I can take countermeasures to stop the company hosting my games from selling their patents and shutting down their service.

I personally wouldn't be limited. Buuuuuut... What about the people who have low internet speeds? What about the people with data caps? What about the people outside of 1st World countries? I don't see cloud gaming as a win for gamers. I see it as a win for internet providers and gaming companies. It would be much cheaper to buy one expensive console/PC that lasts for 5-ish years, compared to the cost of high internet usage... As if the internet providers would allow people to burn through so much data without any major consequences to our wallets.
