Lama Tsultrim Allione explains chöd, an advanced practice where we feed, rather than fight, that which assails us. Through detailed meditation and visualization, chöd practitioners aim to cut directly the root of suffering - ignorance.

A form of Chod was practiced by the Indian Mahasiddhas. There are two main Buddhism Chod practices. Dampa Sangye is Father tradition and Machig Labdron is Mother tradition. Saying a "woman" created the tradition a long time ago isn't (necessarily) correct.

Dampa Sangye’s transmission lineage is Shije.Though Machik’s chöd tradition has many aspects of Shije, the practice with Damarus and so on is attributed to Machik alone.
