What is Amyloidosis? | Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment | Visual explanation

This video covers the pathophysiology, presentation, diagnosis and treatment of amyloidosis. This video aimed at helping medical students and junior doctors learn hematology.
In short:
- Amyloidosis is a rare disease characterized by a buildup of abnormal amyloid deposits in the body. Amyloid deposits can build up in the heart, brain, kidneys, spleen and other parts of the body.
- The most common types of amyloidosis are: AL (Primary) Amyloidosis, AA (Secondary) Amyloidosis and ATTR (Familial) Amyloidosis.
- Amyloidosis isn’t curable. Treatment aims to slow amyloid protein production and reduce symptoms.

    Do you know what percentage of patients are vaccinated against sars 19 vs not and if this is a factor worth noting. Their has been a high increase in “Sudden deaths” in the last 2 years and the embalmers at multiple funeral homes have noted amyloid protein blockage through the body. They have pulled 1’-2’ long pieces from the carotid arteries

    I lost my husband to ALamyloidosis in November. Looking back he had symptoms for around 3 years. About a year before he died he started experiencing fatigue then the symptoms spraled. Initially he was tested for ATTR amyloidosis. All tests were negative. He didn’t have bone morrow test until around the first of November. Once he tested positive for AL amyloidosis he was told chemo was his only hope. He had his first treatment on November 13. His heart couldn’t handle the chemo and passed away on the 14th. He went from an extremely healthy 72 year old to barely able to walk across the room in 6 months.

She undergoes Daratumumab infusions with positive response and her lighchains are back to normal level; however, she is still bed-bound with severe fatigue and level 4 Edema due to heart failure and low eGFR. Not sure how long she can live like this. 😢

    This is scary. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. No other tests were done, but I have multiple organ issues, heart, brain, kidneys, liver, nerves. I have had every symptom of this disease except for the swollen tongue. I started Levothyroxine 6 months ago. This treatment hasn't helped any of my organs that I mentioned. I read that Hypothyroidism is often triggered by Amyloidosis.

  • @dr.paulinemoyaert

    @dr.paulinemoyaert

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Venom, it is true that systemic amyloidosis can compromise thyroid function and lead to hypothyroidism (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7672976/). It could also explain why you have multiple organ problems. I recommend going to your doctor (endocrinologist? Family doctor?). You can explain to him/her why you think you might have amyloidosis. If it eventually turns out to be amyloidosis, it can be treated and it will hopefully reduce your heart - brain - kidney - liver issues. Good luck. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

    @@Mikesworld777 Here's the story. In 2015, my liver failed. Non alcohol fatty liver. During the massive blood test, my TSH was already elevated. Nothing was said or done. I began self treating the fatty liver by detoxing my liver. I had no issues until 2021. In June of 2021, I got vaxxed. 2 weeks later, I caught covid. My wife caught it too and almost died. Weeks in the hospital on oxygen. That stressed me out. 2 days after my vax, I developed a pin point pain in my chest. This continued for months. Then in October, I went to my doctor with severe kidney pains. My white cells were elevated as was my absolute neutrophils. My dr suspected cancer. I refused to hear that and demanded a full thyroid test. He refused. The pains got worse each week. April of 2022, I found a doctor that would listen. I handed him 7 years of blood work from 2015. He immediately said my thyroid is in trouble. He ordered a thyroid test and it hit. Overt Hypothyroidism. I believe either my hypothyroidism was either at a stand still or slowly creeping up until I got vaxxed or covid and that set it into a rage. I am getting better, but it's slow going.

My mom explained that the doctors discovered light chains. The interesting part was she had a bad kidney infection two years prior and her white and red blood cells where as low as someone as HIV. They wanted her to have bone marrow biopsy back then. I read catching it early with chemotherapy can put it into remission for years. Lastly, given improvements to treat the disease people are living longer and could managed like HIV in the future.
