THE FACT THAT THIS WAS POSTED ON MY BIRTHDAY
Amethyst the regal stone that was dethroned 🥲This gemstone will always be precious and regal to me even if others disagree.
Amethyst is proof that price and rarity isn't it all... Such a beautiful gem

Can't a may born wear this?
I think Amethyst is one of the most beautiful gemstones in all its color range from lilac to deep purple. It looks so good with yellow gold. I guess my only beef is the vitreous luster which in poorly cut specimens can look "glassy". This is not a problem with the richer colored stones. A good alternative for rings is purple sapphire. Can you do a video on Tanzanite and Iolite?

I also like those purple Sapphires. Tanzanite and Iolite are definite possibilities for a future video.

My mom had an amethys and gold ring which she wore for 30+ years all the time, she also wore a blue topaz ring at the same time, when she died I inherited them. The amethyst has maybe faded a bit in color but it's still a lovely purple, has shine and has no visible scratches or chips. The topaz however looks cloudy, its edges are rounded and chipped. Topaz is supposed to be harder but it wore worse over 30 years. I guess it's all about the quality of the gem, doesn't matter what it's supposed to be on paper.
I ABSOLUTELY love amethyst and it is my birthstone. This was an amazing video and alot of facts that not many know

I agree totally with Stacy. Thanks for a great video. I love when a gem has a name: ruby, emerald, diamond. I'm not fond of the chemical sounding names the put on modern finds. The word Amethyst has a wonderful air of mystical wonder to it.
Amethyst, like citrine, is a form of quartz. They get their colors from heat, compression, radiation and other elements encountered in the ground. If I’m remembering correctly. Fun fact, most topaz is actually amethyst that has been heated in a lab to make the amethyst metamorphose into citrine.
Diamonds are an exception to the rule of rarity, because diamonds are artificially rare, because the company De Beers(with the agreement/help of others) controls the quantity of diamonds that are made available each year, to inflate their price artificially..... And there’s gem stones, that are far rarer and better looking than diamonds, but still don’t command the prices that diamonds do, because of companies like De Beers.........

Thank you for watching and commenting. There is some truth to the diamond market you are describing, but also some outdated and misunderstood information that those "facts" come from. Diamonds do have rarity (especially the ones we buy for being pretty), otherwise we could find them easily without de beers and there would be more competition (and supply). This reason gets thrown around all over the place without proper due diligence. I have made other videos that explain in more detail. Obviously there is more to this, but the other point is the demand side is always part of the equation. Pricing is always driven by supply and demand. regardless of how demand is created, it does drive pricing. I agree there are plenty of rare gems that don't receive all the respect they may deserve.

Only 20 percentage of the diamonds mined are usable as jewellery. Rest are industrial grade. Talk about commonality
I am obsessed with Andrew and this channel. Where have you been all my life?? LOL
Your videos are well presented and easy to listen to!
Hi ! I'm new to your channel and love it !! I would like to learn more about moonstones and labradorites ,maybe a new video on those lovely gemstones would be nice thank you 😊
I learn so much from watching your videos. And you make it interesting. I love geodes, gemstones as an amateur jewelry maker. Thank you! Gemstones are Mother Nature at her finest.
TY for this video. I love anything purple. Eventhough, it's not my birth stone, I have many amethyst jewelry that I used to wear daily til my favorite ring's amethyst chipped & couldn't be replaced exactly 😢 Then another necklace faded from heat (Fiorgot & wore it into a jacuzzi for 30 mins 😭). Now, I'm hoping to be able to afford a purple sapphire since it's harder. Going to check to see if you have a video on it 💜
I find your channel so informative. The background music is a bit much though..but if others like it, I guess its here to stay🙂🙃
I’m enjoying the videos, thank you!
I have really been enjoying your teachings and appreciate your work greatly
Whenever I see descriptors like “lemon quartz” I immediately think of that yellow-green slag certain sellers try to hawk on eBay lol

Not ness. Green Amethyst is Presiolite. Lemon quartz can be Nat. Yes esp in charkra biz, ppl make up names, sell glass. Fordite( paint) But JTV does it too. They had "Tulluli garnets" Ooooow, I'd never heard of it? Something newly discovered? No just a reg spessartite garnet. But where its mined, the natives have no word for orange. Called it Tulluli. But JTV wanted 3xs $ what its worth. I watch for a laugh. Its my version of comedy tv. Ebay has a bad reputation but so do the markets in Jaipur, Bangkok, even Mogok. There are good dealers. Its a platform. I & handful of gemologist have fought sucessfully to get Ebay Etsy to clean up their acts. Not entirely. Its better than 15 yrs ago. It hurts the entire mkt.
Thank you! That was really useful to me.
Thank you for the video. I am an Aquarius but didn't know all the information about the amethyst. Didn't know it was quartz or that it is 7/10 . Good to know . Going to ship for my birthday. Guess what it is going to be? AMETHYST! I have a huge block of it sitting in my kitchen. Love 💕 to see it shimmering ....
I love gemstone. 🙂 Thank you Andrew. Thanks for sharing this precious info. 👏👏👏👍🙏
Thank You for the information .its very helpful .Thank You.
Green Amethyst is "Presiolite" same basic composition w diff trace elements. Mines in Uruguay Brazil are producing the deep purples w fine red rutile needles (Unheated) giving those red pops. Gorgeous. I set quite a few for customers. I'll check your vid on Ametrine.
Thanks for Sharon subscribed🤗
Hello. I recently got an Amethyst stone necklace for myself. Cause i'm born on 15th February. The stone is about an inch and a half long and half inch wide. It has varying intensity of purple, from light to deep dark purple. And it also has white and grey looking strands around the purple inside it. Is it a real Amethyst for me to be sure i have a real proper one? And could it break and wear out if i have it around my neck hanging over my chest all the time???
I am lucky to have a small cluster with purple amethyst 💜 and separated black 🖤 amethyst, both colours are 2 natural matrixes attached to the same cluster.
Thank you...learned something. I loved geology in college. So loved it, I made an A+ because I just love rocks and gems.
Amethyst gemstone commonly sold is in size and cut similar to other gemstones, especially diamonds. Large amethyst gemstones should be popularized for pendants to change the marketing strategy. I like the Siberian amethyst due to its red tint.
Query:. Why does direct sunlight degrade amethyst to the point of being almost colorless?
Purple 💜 is my birthstone color.

Thanks for the video my friend. What are your thoughts on Rwandan amethyst? I was fortunate enough to pick some of it up from a miner from Rwanda. I've been cutting it and I've noticed that it seems to be a bit harder than typical amethyst. The color and saturation is absolutely phenomenal! From what I have observed, it appears to be metamorphosed. Perhaps this gave it more durability and hardness? Along with the Deep saturation. I would love to show you some of the pieces I have cut. My understanding they haven't found any more for a few years now.

Not directly familiar with that locale. Amethyst is found in most countries to varying degrees. Sounds beautiful though! as far as hardness, locale should not have a large impact on hardness. Quartz usually stays within the 7 range of hardness?
Hi. I've been seeing some sellers online selling "pink amethyst" is this still considered amethyst?
I was drawn to this crystal the moment I saw it, then I found out it’s my birthstone which makes it extra special ☺️
Can you talk about blue apatite and green apatite?
I just bought a pair of amethyst earrings with small amethyst drops. I’m not too happy about them as they do little for me. So thinking about returning. In the picture they looked bright medium purple. In reality I can only see the purple color if its directly against a white or black background otherwise they look transparent with just a hint of purple almost not perceived to the naked eye. Bad quality I guess? They are 3000 dollars btw and basically only gold hooks with amethyst. A luxury jewelry brand using commercial grade amethysts is almost chocking to me.

Thank you very very much Sir for this Information 👌👍👌👍👌👍👌👍🙏🇮🇳 India 🙂
I like the information you provide, but the music is very distracting.
So how does amethyst actually hold up for a daily worn wedding ring? I've heard it looks pretty shabby after a couple of years.
Such a handsome jeweler!
That's something on! Earth . Nice day .
I have seen yellow and green amethyst offered online... If it is now considered illegal to refer to anything that is not purple as amethyst, what should it be referred to as? Yellow /green quartz perhaps? Is it something else altogether? Thanks for the information. 😊

Yellow or green quartz is often most appropriate. Although there are some specifics like Adventurine quartz and others that do have their own name.

I learned some, but what makes the purple color? Iron? And beware, specimens can loose their color if in sunlight!
12:49 cst I would like to know about alexandrite.
I have noticed that amethyst fades in sunlight. Please talk about that.
@YourAverageJeweler
3 жыл бұрын
It is pretty unusual to see Amethyst fade from sunlight. It is more likely that it seems less saturated under certain light. There are some stones like Kunzite known for losing color if left in sunlight, but it is not common in something like Amethyst.

I’d heard that about Amethyst too. I own a few large pieces and was told to avoid putting them in direct sunlight because of fading. Thank you.
Is there a demand for gemologists? I love minerals and gems but I don’t know how one goes about making a career around that passion.

@YourAverageJeweler

Technically it is only amethyst if the primary hue is purple. It's definition is the purple variety of quartz. Some nice amethyst can have a pink/red characteristic to them. The FTC only recently started cracking down on the marketing of other "amethyst" colors.
I love amethyst. I want to find some heart shaped gems.
In western astrology they recommend amethyst for people born on a Wednesday which is a day of Mercury.

Hello people
Opal jasper aget is not "quartz". They are amorphous silica. Quartz is crystalline.
@YourAverageJeweler
3 жыл бұрын
You are correct that Opal is not Quartz. I'm sorry if something in my video sounded that way. Jasper and Agate are in the quartz family, however if there are opal qualities those are often going to be silica spheres. There are minerals that are combinations of this, like fire Agate. Ammolite/ammonite is another example of something (fossils in this case) that has been "opalized". Thank you for watching and your feedback.
Ohhh you forget to said that diamonds are not rare at all they are everywhere around the world Africa, Australia, Brazil, Nueva Guinea, United States, and many other countries without counting the ones mined under the sea. Tell the public the real monopoly history of diamonds and the manipulation of the price and why the people think diamonds are so expensive. Diamonds in reality are expensive by manipulation but they not rare at all 😉
