What is Agate? | Types of Agate

Microcrystalline quartz is known as chalcedony. There are three main types of chalcedony: onyx, jasper, and agate. When chalcedony appears translucent or semi transparent we refer to it is agate.
Agate can be one color, but it is generally made up of two or more colors. These colors can be banded as in the case of blue lace agate or crazy lace agate. It can also have more of a moss like appearance as in the case of moss agate and dendritic agate.
Agate is said to cleanse your aura and remove negativity. It is also said to enhance mental function and concentration. It comes in around a 7 on the Mohs scale so it is reasonably scratch resistant making it a good option for jewelry.

Thank you so much for doing this video! I have always loved agate! I love that it comes in so many colors. I have owned black agate and blue agate. I never knew they were related to chalcedony, as I am very fond of the coloring of that stone. Thank you so much for this very informative video as always Jill. I hope you have a great day and can’t wait for tomorrow’s video!

I just stumbled onto this video. The title caught my eye, it is the 1st of your channel that I've seen. Glad I found it. Well Done! Excellent information! New sub. I'm a long time agate/chalcedony hunter/collector from NW Illinois. My hunting grounds are the banks, islands and gravel bars of the Mississippi River and tributaries from Keokuk, Iowa, upstream into Minnesota. The primary types of Chalcedony that I find are banded Lake Superior Agates(LSAs), Jasper, Carnelian, Onyx, and Plain(unbanded) Chalcedony, among others. *The glaciers of the last 5 Ice Ages broke them out of the basalt matrix vesicles(holes left near the surface by gas bubbles in volcanic rock as it cools) where they formed around 100 million years ago, and then carried them southward into Minnesota, Wisconsin, and northern Iowa. Some, transported by glacier, come from as far away as central Ontario, Canada, north of Lake Superior. They've slowly been washed down the Upper Mississippi River watershed over approx. the last 5,000 to 10,000 years. In the Mississippi River, LSAs can be found as far South as Memphis, TN. However, they become increasingly smaller and harder to find as you move farther downstream. *I hope this tidbit of history can be found useful by someone. Keep up the great work. Now, I'm off to check out the rest of your channel. Have a Wonderful Day and a Glorious New Year. And.... Take a look at #thefinders when you have the time. I believe you will find it interesting.

Kylie, good places to check are usually a local "rockhound" club, or with a local Rock & Gem Shop. It is not uncommon for the shops to supply Local Artisans with cut and polished agates and other jewelry-ready gems and minerals. They very often will give referrals for trusted Local Artisans, and can tell you who works best with which stones or type of jewelry. Also, in many cases, the shops will have quality locally made jewelry for sale. Another good place to look is #thefinders. Best of Luck to you.

Go back and look at the video she posted. She said you put the Donnie is my best friend thumb nail at the end of your video.( At the end of each of your videos and everyone’s, it will show several of the last few videos that you did. I think it’s trying to get us to watch another of your videos). Good luck with this situation. Remember to always be nice. You know that.

She's getting me back for suggesting that her cold came from Donnie. I accused them of seeing each other behind my back so we are having fun with each other. Autumn is always nice too! xoxo

Agate does not have any magical power. Chalcedony is not agate jasper is dirty chalcedony. Onyx refers to black cryptocrystaline quartz . To my knowledge the last true onyx was used by Fabregas for the imperial Russian family. Every thing since has been dyed. I 'm fine with people talking about science, I despise this crap about crystal energy, the only energy involved in Crystal's you can't measure in a lab. Electrical properties of quartz are well known and cause little or no effect till you get up to hundreds of volts. If you can't explain the physics don't hide it in the bull crap.
