Yes! It's a Pfaff 1245. The shop installed a servomotor whose slowest speed was a little fast for me and I asked the dealer to exchange the motor for another servomotor with better/slower lowest speed (Ho Hsing G60) paying a little extra, and I'm still getting used to it and customizing the table, as I have long legs :-) I look forward to having the table finished to begin sewing! It's because of videos like yours that KZread is so helpful for those like me who are beginning in upholstery, and I will upload some videos about my machine/motor, to also help others ;-)

Absolutely correct! The ability to climb over layers of fabric is what really makes a massive difference between a walking foot and a standard foot machine. I have used both and actually own a Singer 111w114 witch has a standard foot. I bought it because it was a great deal and the standard foot can get you by on some basic stuff or when stitch consistency isn't important. However I will be replacing it with a walking foot someday. When I get one will basically boil down to when I have a job that absolutely requires me to have one or when the right deal lands in my lap.

Appreciate the explanation i am slightly ahead. Of the video in that i purchased a walking foot machine over 10 years ago to do a Vintage car interior and boat cushions for my personal vessels Prior i was a Woodworker. For over 20 years and ive really enjoyed learning how to sew Now i did buy a Chinese made machine off Ebay and ive been very happy with its performance and reliability the guy i bought it from. Was completely up front on what it was and it arrived without any issues ironically it was my very first Ebay purchase so i was a little skeptical. On the purchase originally ? Ive had the oppurtunity. To purchase a Juki from a family member that owns his own marine canvas company. And i declined as I’m happy with the machine i bought

Great video, thank you for the detail and the slow motion!! Question for you... what is your opinion of the Brother DB2-B797? It is "duel drive" not triple drive like the true walking foot, so when the needle comes up the presser foot and dogs move the material and when the needle comes down the needle foot holds the material stationary while the presser foot resets. Any thoughts? The Brother I describe is available in my area, but I'm concerned that I might be settling too much and as you mentioned might regret it later.

Another great video!!! I recently acquired a Brother LS2-B837. Watched many of your videos before taking the plunge. I do understand many of the basics as far as Needle Size and Type, Thread Size and Type, Tension, Etc..... Several practice pieces with very good results. I am also in your Apprentice Program. The absolute most confusing thing for me at the moment are all the different sizes and styles of walking foot sets, along with where not to buy. Smooth bottom versus toothed bottom, and why? Tooooo many questions I guess. Thank you for all the time you have invested in this venture - Stephen

Hi Steven! Thanks you for such a great question! It helps me improve the courses and videos. I use the smooth set. The tooth sets are for if you are having problems with slippery fabric. But they can also leave marks in other materials and that's why I use smooth flat feet. If you have tons of questions I encourage you to join our forum. • @Theluckyneedle

    @Theluckyneedle

    7 жыл бұрын

Craig's List is my best friend for finding used tools at great prices. Best way to see if its in good condition is to sew some test sections. If the machine is rusty that's a bad sign because it means its been outside or hasn't been oiled in years. Excessive ware is ok as long as the machine has been somewhat taken care of. I bought the juki in the video and it had been used so much the industrial paint has worn off in some areas but it was taken care of and still sews great to this day. You defiantly want to make sure your machine has a reverse lever. You should be able to find a good used machine between $600 and $1000. Sometimes you can find better deals if your lucky. All the name brands will be good. Juki, pfaff, consew, adler, brother, etc. Avoid the new consew machines made within the last 5 years or so. The old ones are really good though.

What other features would you recommend so that I don't buy the wrong machine again? So far it sounds like I should be looking for: walking foot, lock-stitch capability, servo motor... anything else? Thanks!

  • @Theluckyneedle

The walking foot feature is a must. Most walking foot machines come with a reverse lever to do lock-stitches. A servo motor is really nice but not a must. I highly recommend the in table machines also. The portable walking foot machines are to small for auto/marine upholstery.

  • @Theluckyneedle

It should work great with medium weight fabric. I don't recommend it for light weight fabric like clothes. If your going to be doing clothing you would be better off with a non walking foot. Plus non walking foots are less expensive.

  • @adambrown2626

This is not a walking foot machine.... It is a compound or unison feed machine. They are not the same. A walking foot has alternating presser feet that transports the medium when the needle is up. A compound feed machine uses an alternating presser foot system, however the medium is moved with the needle in its downward cycle. This is a more powerful feeding mechanism and ensures a perfectly consistent stitch length, idea for external or top stitching. Compound feed machines can have vertical or horizontal axis hook system, rotary or oscillating.

BTW, you don't *have* to buy a machine that comes with a walking foot. You can just buy a walking foot separately for most machines :-) Pfaff is also well known for always including the feature in their machines.

The little walking foot that you ban add to your machine is not nearly as strong as a walking foot machine. I have used the walking foot that I added to my Brother machine.

@@smilingdog54 It really depends on your needs and what you intend to sew the most. If you were to be sewing mostly thick fabrics, then it is probably a good idea, but if that's not within your budget to prioritise then it's still fine.

I tried sewing vinyl and leatherette with a regular sewing machine and ive spent more time unjamming it than actually sewing. want to throw the machine out of the window now. buy once cry once I guess.

we understand the function and why it's important to have a such mechanism. but you don't explain how this perpetual pressure on clothes is made. very disappointed. you can change your video's title !!
