    Not to be an A hole but most don't serve to be called a hero but rather because it was the right thing to do for us. The oath we swore to has no exploration date . We were raised to believe in the freedom and way of life the constitution stands for. Unfortunately some people " wrap themselves in the flag " of this great nation and preach how much freedom we have as long as you agree with them , if you don't they call you a traitor . The freedom the constitution speaks of is not just for the rich or people that can pay for it . It is for every Person , regardless of where they are from. Americans have fought to free the oppressed around the world. As we will continue to do as long as Americans are free and believe in the rights of human beings. Trying to not be long winded but 1 last point. Our oath is to protect and defend the constitution and what it stands for, not the government or people in the government.

By the end of the night I was talking to people I never met before. We were sitting around talking and telling stories from our days in service. At the end of the night we were shaking hands and hugging each other. My girlfriend couldn't believe it.

    What is a veteran? Someone who had the balls to stand up and serve their country knowing full well that when the bugle sounds we would have to stand and fight. We signed a blank cheque, and swore an oath to die for freedom. Thankfully the Cold War never got hot, BUT!

  • @topgeardel

    @topgeardel

    Being in the military has nothing to do with having "the balls to stand up and serve". You can be nothing more than a pawn and an asshole by being in the military. The military/industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about is real, not a conspiracy. I'm a proud Vietnam/Draft resistor. Real Americans serve their country and that can mean not being chumps and pawns for it.

    Most veterans never experience combat and never hear a shot fired in anger, yet, drafted or volunteer, they chose to serve their country no matter what. Whether they drove a truck or a bulldozer, operated a radio, worked in the galley or the engine room, repaired optics, inventoried aircraft parts, or manned a remote radar station...USA, USN, USMC, USAF, USCG...everyone who has worn the uniform honorably answered their country's call. A DD-214 and a NDSM was all they got, but they served where needed and they did their duty.

    If this video were show on TV during memorial or veterans day, today's community would change the channel to watch shows like "Transgender Island, The Pronoun Show, Abortion Rights Family Feud, Border Jumping Olympics, or the How to properly kneel during the Nation Anthem show." I think we're fighting the wrong enemy! FJB BLM and all who burn my flag. Semper Fi brothers and sisters.

    Maybe chill a little there, brother. I do not know why you served, and visa versa. I am certain of few things in life. One of my certainties is that all of those people you are hating on there, they one and all are no different than all of the people you love and respect - people that you served for and I served for. They wake up under the same flag and just want to survive in these very hard times. If you cut them, do they not bleed the same, red blood? If they are different, it is their right to be so, just as it is your right to not like it. If it is not too much for an Army guy to ask, try to take a day off from not liking it, for whatever it nags you the most on that day. Peace is out there, Marine. No one is going to wrap it up all nice and pretty for you. If you want peace, you have to go and get it. I do not think my Marine brother ever found his peace. He suffered greatly from chemical exposures (Agent Orange) and was very bitter about that. He took that anger to his grave a few years ago. Don't be like my brother. Find some peace. If you cannot find some, make some.

    True statements and facts but I'd also like to say The families of Veterans sacifice a great deal also, I didn't understand this until years after my brother and I were out of the Army how it affected our parents and loved ones, We were both in at the same time and it was just us two children no other siblings. My Aunt told me how our mother cried a lot when we left home I never knew she never showed that to us. Thank God we made it back home My brother was injured in the gulf war but we got back home. God bless all who serve an have served.

    Wow, I'm shocked. Somebody actually pronounced the word "veteran" correctly. As a veteran, it annoys me a little that most people say "vetran".

    With the VA trying to get my benefits, which were promised when i joinwd the USMC. was told i make >than $43k/year, so i can't recieve them. Funny, i don't recall being told that when i voluntarily joined the Corps. Guess it's the new amerika, rather give the $ to illegal criminal aliens than a vet!
