What is a Sun Trap?

What is a sun trap and why is it an important design concept in a permaculture garden?
I filmed this a week ago, and I'm sorry for the late upload, but still a super important concept to discuss.

That makes a 100% sense. But am I right in thinking that this will only work if your garden is large enough and/or your neighbors don't have any trees? My mother's garden is almost completely in shades because it's only about 12 yards wide south to north and the southern neighbor had very tall pine trees all around his ground. Because of mental health problems he's slightly paranoid and absolutely refuses to trim those trees in any way because he's afraid of people watching him. He's a very nice guy and we are friends so picking a fight over the trees is not an option. My mother tries to grow some flowers and berries in the few sunny spots, but frankly with little success. Do you have any suggestions what she could do to improve the lighting situation that does not involve cutting down the neighbors trees? Or is there just nothing that can be done? Thank you so much for all the inspiration you give ❤

I'm curious what your experience is with brassicas. Even in zone 5, if I try to grow them in full sun, they bolt early in the season. But if I try to keep them shaded, I wind up accidently ranching escargot.

Great question. I grow a lot of perennial, collards and kales. They like hot weather. I grow a lot of annual kale as well, and I have to replant a few times because some of it does bolt Cabbage loopers are a big problem here, so I grow broccoli and cauliflower over the winter and harvest early in the spring. That only works because I have a mild climate.

Now I understand I think .. The sun trap Is created by the surrounding tall tress which provide privacy, reduce noise pollution, and protect from strong winds. Sun trap is a weird name for an area where sun reaches between these trees.

Hey, I just watched your previous video, where you say that you are in zone 8B and not 9A like you say in this video... Climate change?

Yes. They changed the zone at the beginning of the year. 😢
