What is a "Straight Pull" Rifle? (Starring an AR15/M4 .223 Rem)

For those who may not fully understand what a Straight Pull rifle is or how it differs from Swmi Automatic rifles I've made this video to hopefully be of some help!

    I'm sad to see a place that makes semi automatic unobtainable in an ar15 platform in 5.56 but im glad to see that there are many...kind of adaptations so you can still use the platform, even not in its full form nice demonstration ive never understood british gun laws but im glad to learn just a bit more about someone else's gun laws.

    I find it fascinating that there aren't any magazine restrictions in the UK. In many US states, the magazine capacity limit is 10-15 rounds. Alot of states don't have them but i find the mentality difference fascinating. The UK gun control mentality seems to focus on action types and mechanical restrictions rather than magazine limits as an experienced shooter can reload quickly. American gun laws also seem to focus on the appearance of a gun rather than its functionality.

    If you can get a side charging upper from Bear Creek Arsenal the easy way is just taking a bare gas block and mounting it backwards so the gas port is blocked. I do this on my AR chambered in 300HAMR. The added benefit that I seldom hear mentioned is that without gas being wasted the accuracy is much more consistent and muzzle velocity is a skosh faster. With the exceptional accuracy and effectiveness of the 300HAMR round I have no need for rapid fire capability.

    Build out your rifle using mostly standard components. Swap the standard upper receiver and BCG for side charging versions. Forget any gas system components. Either find a way to sealnthe gas port or get a custom barrel without a port. I think you could skip the buffer and spring too, but your bolt would only return to battery manually. I'm thinking of doing this for a moose and caribou gun when I get to Alaska.

  • @UKGuns

    @UKGuns

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi, I dont have a Ruger rifle to compare to but I do have a bolt gun. However accuracy is really more about the specific gun itself rather than the type of action. There will be bolt guns that are way more accurate than a straight pull and there will be straight pulls that are way more accurate than most bolt guns. Due to so many other factors. What I will say is, a good quality (and usually expensive) bolt gun will in MOST cases be more accurate than the majority of AR15 pattern rifles (so that includes straight pulls). As with most things though there is no "one size fits all"

The scope is a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 which is purpose built for the AR platform.
