@@Scarletraven87 Its going to be an horror like thing. Where they need to get out of the cave while the Ropers and Piercers keep trying to kill them and the Drow they are fighting.

I could imagine a deep gnome in a full, very thin set of platinum armor dumpster diving these things for treasure.

I remember being grappled by one and then being set on fire by the party’s sorcerer. I may have said something like, “do it again and I’ll feed you to the next thing we find or leave you behind.” I was then petty and refused to heal him after smiting a living statue and said it was for setting me on fire

this is a good way to cause paranoia in caves

The underdark teems with horror story encounters. Sounds like a good place to threaten your metagamers with a oneshot.

A strategy for a Ropper and a bunch of Piercers do together is a Ropper on the floor dragging a creature in a line that have the Piercers are waiting to drop them selves. That could kill easily a qualified adventurer.

I created an encounter w 1 giant roper in a large cavern, w a pool of blood and offal and the weapons of the fallen below. They killed it… and then never looted its body for the treasure I had planned for it inside and in the pool of blood.

Ptsd of a piercer encounter. Not because of being hit but when they were crawling back up to the ceiling we each focused on one as they scurried and I COULD NOT for the life of me hit mine. I didn't want to waste spells so sent firebolt after firebolt, somehow never hitting the dang thing until another member took pity and stabbed it lol. Lovely days

I'd have a hard time resisting helping a piercer back to the ceiling, if it's failed to hit me.

Ahhh I had an encounter with 4 ropers and a ceiling full of piercers, every 5 feet of movement to a sap ace not previously walked at a changes at 4d6(40ft high ceilings) very fun encounter with the ropers reeling party members away from one another lol

saw your lich video and wondered if you got more detail on the arch lich especially how they manage the degradation apparently without eating souls

roper has been one of my only TPKs. they knew it was in there, and did nothing to prepare, then they kept attacking the regenerating tentacles, and trying to run away, even thought it kept doing reaction attacks, grabbing them, and pulling them back in.

Still holding out for the cat lord. I really want to give him head pats.

Flashback to my first campaign when my very first character was almost killed by these things.

I love to imagine that there is a third phase in this creatures life span. One is larva then roapers are the middle phase and maybe there is a third kind that bursts out of the roper at the end and flies. Maybe it’s even a smart creature.

I had a character who would kill monsters for rare potion ingredients and also had cooks utensils. We killed a roaper my and character started chopping up the tentacles and fried them so the party had fried roaper rings for dinner. I got a 26 on my roll total, DC15 is considered gourmet food. We ate good that night.

At the end of our most recent P2E game, we entered a cave and a roper immediately grabbed two party members. The rest of us rushed it, attacking its arms to make it let go of the other party members. It then tried to escape up a wall to safety. There is a Wrestler dedication in P2E, which has all kinds of thematic attacks including one very useful one; Suplex. It knocks a grappled foe prone and does extra damage if you're lucky enough to crit, and of course, if they're climbing at the time, they fall. Queue my Monk in Gorilla Stance rushing up the wall, grappling this sucker and sending it hurtling towards the ground. I didn't get the kill, but damn was it satisfying.
