What is a DVT? How do you Diagnose and Treat it? | Expert Explains Everything You Need To Know!

In this tutorial we guide you through what a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is using our 3D model. Discuss DVT assessment including considering risk factors, classic symptoms and signs and how to interpret the Wells classification. Then look at DVT medical management and explore evidence for physios in mobilising patients with DVTs.

Very clearly and succinctly explained. I was recently found to have 2 DVTs in my left calf, one in the Peroneal, the other in the PTV despite only scoring 1 on the Wells test and 2 on the D-dimer but fortunately the hospital team saw fit to do an ultrasound scan which revealed both. They called mine unprovoked as I don't fall into any of the risk categories. Am now on Apixaban for at least 6 months and am walking for up to an hour a day as well as doing exercises advised by other online physios. Your video has been most helpful in increasing my understanding, thank you.

I have swelling above my knee in my thigh. Nothing below my knee and no pain really. I did do leg day at the gym last week and did the stair master yesterday, could i have strained something?

Can a dvt can cause loss of sensation? Some small part of my both calves had loss of sensation for half a year now. No pain, no redness, or swelling.

If you are concerned I would definitely ensure that you see a Dr or physio about this as there are many things that can cause sensation changes in the legs

@@ClinicalPhysio It happened to someone I know . Thank goodness the clot in the leg was removed - hence the person is still alive but on anticoagulant at present . But there could be residual clots and non-fatal PEs in the lungs . I am wondering given the higher clot burden - whether or not a helping hand should be given to help remove any other residual clot ( DVT , superficial below the skin and PE ) .

@@ClinicalPhysio I am worried about clots especially given the fact that the person received the BionTech mRNA spike protein vaccine . The spike protein Pfizer vaccine is in the news for funny things - white fibrous clots etc , and frameshift products due to the chemically modified mRNAs in the BionTech vaccine .
