@@joshuamaetiongson9649 Here's what I did: -Select a research topic -find a professor who works in that field -read his past work -email him asking for a position in his lab (referencing his work that interests you) -highlight why you want to do this research and why are you qualified -get his preliminary approval -apply to the university -get selected and move to Tokyo I hope it was helpful :)

3 years in Japan and going to do my PhD next year….. I study architecture at Tokyo Tech. I have N2 in Japanese, my course is in “100%” in English. Japan's BIGGEST problem is honne tatemae. I've never had a problem dealing with people…. but in Japan having to read between the lines in everything is so tiring. Japanese don't say what they think, you have to read their mind…. So sad for them

Tatemae problem is real. I never know if I'm talking to a friend or if they're trying to be polite. Usually i just mind my own business and when someone comes to be, I'm trying to be friendly as well. But I've given up at this point
