David Lee Roth is great. The best thing about him is that he might be the most confident person who has ever lived. He truly believes that he is the greatest entertainer, greatest front man, and the sexiest human that has ever lived. Even when people criticize him he has the biggest smile on his face and does not care. He is a showman

Notice that's the same shirt Eddie had on as in Michael Jackson's live "Beat It" video! 1984 - same year and tour as both The Jackson's"Victory" Tour and VH's "1984" one. The Jackson's were in Dallas/Irving (Texas Stadium/Cowboys) the night before I saw VH at Reunion Arena. All of VH attended the Jackson's show; DLR was seen walking along the floor with Emmanuel Lewis and Alex VH and Michael Anthony were seen scattered around different parts of the floor. Of course, Eddie joined Michael on the stage for the solo in the hit song "Beat It"!

It was indeed a jock strap! David Lee Roth would have a certain outfit for a tour, and he'd have them in a few different colors. He's worn buttless chaps, and the jocks were just one more cheeky addition to his stage wear. Everything was always tongue in cheek, and meant to give everyone a good laugh. They were my first concert in July, 1981, and it was a lot of fun!

Yes, Edward Van Halen on guitar (and keyboards)... he passed away in 2020 from cancer (R.I.P. 😪) His brother Alex Van Halen on drums, Michael Anthony on bass and David Lee Roth was the acrobatic original singer of Van Halen. Van Halen conquered radio in the late 70's, then became stars on MTV in the 80's to 90's. Eddie & Alex Van Halen started playing in a band together as teens in high school in Pasadena, California... David Lee Roth (vocals) joined around 1973, despite not being the best singer... but had his own P.A. and rehearsal space. Roth recognized Eddie Van Halen's talent on guitar and named the band Van Halen as a marquee name to attract people to their shows to see Eddie perform on guitar. Michael Anthony (bass) joined in 1974. Gene Simmons of Kiss saw Van Halen play live at an L.A. club in 1976 and recorded their demos... Van Halen was finally signed by 1977. The first Van Halen album in 1978 established Eddie Van Halen as a guitar hero and sold 10 million copies in the US... Van Halen recorded 6 studio albums w/ David Lee Roth on vocals. This album '1984' was the last to feature Roth, despite selling another 10 million copies. 'Diamond' David Lee Roth split w/ Van Halen for a solo career in 1985... Van Halen recruited solo singer Sammy Hagar in 1986 and their next album '5150' sold 6 million copies in the US, debuting at #1 on the US charts. Eddie Van Halen also explored more keyboard-oriented sounds in this era... Van Halen released 4 studio albums w/ Hagar on vocals before a conflict between the singer and Eddie Van Halen led to a split in 1996. Van Halen recorded 1 album w/ singer Gary Cherone in 1998, but it was a commercial disappointment... The last 2 decades for Van Halen were not as productive, sadly... Eddie Van Halen was diagnosed w/ cancer around 2000... 2 attempts to reunite the band w/ original vocalist David Lee Roth failed by 2002. Sammy Hagar returned to Van Halen for a 2004 tour, but Eddie's drug & alcohol abuse was so destructive that year to his skills onstage, that both Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony departed Van Halen late that year. After a long rehab stint, Eddie Van Halen was healthy enough for Van Halen to finally announce a reunion tour w/ David Lee Roth on vocals in 2007... bassist Michael Anthony was replaced by Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen on bass... A new Van Halen record 'A different kind of truth' was released in 2012, but did not meet the success of past albums. Sammy Hagar & bassist Michael Anthony have recorded & toured together since then. Van Halen's last tour of the US was in 2015. Rumors of Eddie Van Halen's deteriorating health and cancer returning, circulated in the final years before his death in 2020... His legacy was his Van Halen records and contributions that revolutionized guitar playing in 1978 and beyond. Despite his guitar skills becoming somewhat corroded by substance abuse in the last 2 decades of his life, Edward Van Halen will always be an iconic rock guitarist and composer.

I also loved Alex Van Halen I also really liked Eddie Van Halen and his guitar playing wonderful brothers from the Neitherlands where I have some of my ancestry on both sides of my family. I had to adjust to David leaving the band and Sammy Hager being the front man but it didn't take long I love Sammy as well soon after Sammy became the frontman for Van Halen they started being called Van Hager !!! Two Great singers with lots of Karisma fantastic stage presents. I loved Van Halen with all the original members and I equally loved Sammy - Van Halen (Hager) !!! Yes, Eddie the guitarist and songwriter died. RIP. And the police in the video were actors, the video director wanted David Lee Roth's shirt off when he was "acting" being arrested, and it was not real life because . . . (wait for it) . . . this is a VIDEO!!!!

My favorite signer for Van Halen was 'Diamond' David Lee Roth. That's when Van Halen was the best.

I saw Van Halen in 1979 on their first world tour as a headliner. IMO, they were at their absolute prime then. Eddie was particularly awesome that night.

You want legendary??? Check this out: after David Lee Roth left Van Halen he went to school and became an EMT in New York City! I always wondered what it would have been like to be struck by a car on the streets of NYC and when the ambulance showed up......out jumps David Lee Roth, there to save your life!
