What If You Dug a Hole Through the Earth?

Ғылым және технология

Humans have been digging towards the center of the Earth for decades. Hypothetically, what if we were to make it all the way through? What then?
In the time it would take you to order an extra larger everything pizza and have it delivered to your front door you could theoretically jump through that tunnel you’ve dug in your backyard that cuts straight through the center of the planet and end up on the other side.
Source and more: insh.world/science/what-would...
What If asks some of the most provocative hypothetical questions in science - and then tries to answer them with the help of established scientific theory and the latest research.

what if the Titanic never sank? what if 911 never happened? What if the invasion of Normandy failed, and Germany managed to invade North America? What if the Bible never existed? I think all these would be super interesting ‘what if’s’. When I think about ‘what if’ stuff, I always think about the outcomes of things, if certain events never happened, or went a different way. Here’s a few more, with the effect, but I would still like to know more about. What if the South won the civil war? *effect: America becomes one nation again, in 1960* What if James Dean had survived his car crash? *effect*: Robert Kennedy survives his assasination attempt* What if Christianity missed the West? *effect:The Enlightenment starts early- and last thousands of years* What if the Romans won the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest? *effect:no one would speak English* What if Shakespeare was a renowned historian? *effect: due to advanced technology, the Industrial Revolution happens 200 years early* What if Woodrow Wilson had never been US president? *effect: WW1 would’ve been avoided*

You missed the most important point here. If we somehow dig hole to the other side and jump, gravity would pull us to the centre of earth, acceleration due to gravity would be zero at the centre, but due to inertia we would be in the state of motion and try to fly off away from the centre, then acceleration due to gravity would be on the opposite direction to our motion, finally it will get to a point where we will be again drawn to the centre, again inertia would throw us away from the centre to a point where we are again pulled to the centre. So we would be in simple harmonic motion. We would never make it to any side. I'm disappointed you didn't include this 😔
