@teardowndan5364

@@RubyRhod If you have 5X the mass being flung around at the "floating" end of the brake shoe, you get 5X the pressure being applied to the brake shoe for a given RPM or half the RPMs for about the same torque going through, which means half as much brake pad smoke being generated for a given amount of acceleration or twice as much accelerating before wearing out the pads.
@RubyRhod
Жыл бұрын
@@teardowndan5364 You are not wrong, but while you increase mass 5 times, you lower rpms that create a certain torque by sqrt(5) or about 2.2 times. So you "only" more than half the heat wasted/generated by the clutch. I would argue you need to lower energy wasted by 10 to 100 times. There is a reason why friction clutches of any type (and I would argue torque converters are in some way also a friction clutch) are meant to go at the highest rpm shaft in the drivetrain - usually directly at the engine.

The brake shoes should have been mounted the other way around. Using the centrifical Force to swing them out. I bet it would work better in reverse, the way it's built now.
@rossbrumby1957
Жыл бұрын
No, they made the swinging end leading because they grip better (same as all front drum brakes on cars are leading end opens, not trailing end). To make them bite harder, the pivot bolt on the trailing end needs to be moved closer to the centre of the hub to gain more leverage.
@mastermnd22
Жыл бұрын
@@rossbrumby1957 all brake shoes work with center piston spreading open from the top. Either direction you have both a leading edge open and trailing. So your argument makes no sense. They should have used a similar idea to get both directions of bite from the shoes.

Before watching the test: I think the rear wheels and power transfer would be okay because of the diff. Just when it wears out you'd have an issue. After watching the test: I should have known with the way the pads were dangling that it needed a little bit of a tighter fit. Gravity can only do so much work.

This is exactly how them old cranes work. The engine drives a pto and the pto drives a big chain and that chain is attached to gears and those gears spin which in turn spin drums and brake pads are inside those drums so when the operator pulls a lever that lever releases hydraulic fluid into a piston into the drum and pushes the brake pad onto the inside of the drum which depending on the operators lever and the force of the piston on the brake pad, the winch line operates. Sometimes when it’s wet you gotta burn the brake pads and inside of the drum causes smoke so the friction catches when you go to pick up a load. On that same drum is another band around the entire drum which is attached to a linkage and then to the operators brake pedal so operator pushes brake pedal, pedal pushes linkage, linkage squeezes brake band and in turn squeezes brake drum stopping the winch line.

@duncancremin1708 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I had the same problem, video going black, but sound was okay. This was never going to work because the wheel rpm is too low, so the force isn’t enough to push the pads out and engage them decisively, so the end up slipping and heating up. By the time you build up enough speed to sufficiently engage the centrifugal clutch it has over heated and can’t grip properly, similar to brake fade. You’d need at least a 2:1, maybe even 3:1 reduction between the centrifugal clutch and the hubs, to make this work, but that would result in a very high engine rpm and low road speed, unless you had a step up to match, in the driveline. That’s starting to sound like a French car!

@RubyRhod

@@RubyRhod I didn't say that it would solve the problem, only that they'd get at least twice the usability out of it.

@ruby cool story bro
You guys are crazy. Love it!
black screen from about 10:17
that is why i love this channel they answer strage question
ummm black screen for last half??
Looks like there was some kind of upload error. After 10:17 there is sound but no video. It was pretty great until then. Not quite 107 percent boiz... 🙂
Video goes blank after 10:40

The second half of the video sure make use of your imagination as you listen in the darkness
Blank ending, needs a re-up
This is why I love stuff like that it's crazy creative
What a brilliant idea!
video went black at 10:14 Needs less weight on the pads so they spin out harder.
You guys have the best ideas
Video goes black with the garage54 logo still up on the bottom right? What's up with that?
The brake shoes should have been mounted the other way around. Using the centrifical Force to swing them out. I bet it would work better in reverse, the way it's built now.
@rossbrumby1957
Жыл бұрын
No, they made the swinging end leading because they grip better (same as all front drum brakes on cars are leading end opens, not trailing end). To make them bite harder, the pivot bolt on the trailing end needs to be moved closer to the centre of the hub to gain more leverage.
@mastermnd22
Жыл бұрын
@@rossbrumby1957 all brake shoes work with center piston spreading open from the top. Either direction you have both a leading edge open and trailing. So your argument makes no sense. They should have used a similar idea to get both directions of bite from the shoes.
Half the video is classified top secret
Great vid, too bad it went black with just sound around 10:17.
Un altro video degno del Garage54, canale KZread che adoro... Peccato che diventa nero a tre/quarti di video... Ragazzi, siete i miei idoli. Ciao dall'italia

Did not understand but cool story bro
At about 10:15 the screen goes black for the rest of the video!
I see Ray Charles edited this one
hi we mist the last 7 minuts only black screen.
Love the video! But please reupload if possible. It blacked out around the 10 minute mark.
what happened to last half of video?
Before watching the test: I think the rear wheels and power transfer would be okay because of the diff. Just when it wears out you'd have an issue. After watching the test: I should have known with the way the pads were dangling that it needed a little bit of a tighter fit. Gravity can only do so much work.
You should make centrifugal clutches heavier so there would be less slipage becouse of greter normal force
@benruether8294

I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 4lbs each with lead weights. It really needs something super heavy due to the low rotating speed

@honda yew at wright. Coel storey broe. Greter es beytter aw gues. Lol

Nice period..............................
Almost successful back to the drawing board l so amazed how you come up with all these experiments but they are great entertainment can't wait for the next one
I have never heard of putting clutches on wheels, this is interesting, cool idea!
something appears to have gone wrong after 10:16 still have sound but video is just a black screen
Now you guys need to make some diy crab walking wheels.
I love your vídeos im Brazilian keep going posting videos
FROM 10:15 TO THE END OF THE VIDEO IT IS ALL BLACK SCREEN.
what up with the AMSR part of the video half way in to it?
the last 8 mins was a black screen no pic just audio.
please reupload, last portion of the video cut to black and didn't recover till end
Just some note, you didn't put the weight for centrifugal force in the right placed, in contrast, it actually reduces the force. the best place would be in the middle of the brake plate not the top of it.
Hi from Texas USA love your channel . So what if you replaced the pads with aluminum. On your previous vid using aluminum for brake pads and they were supper grippy
Awesome thanks 👍👍
Man I was enjoying the video when all of a sudden it went black!! Boy that sucks! I wanted to see the ending!
Why is the video blank after 10:19min?
I love these videos lol
Thank god they finally bought a plasma cutter. Used to drive me crazy seeing them go through cutoff discs.
@10:17 the vid goes black and stays that way till the end. That sux a Big Ole' Harry McVein D!!!

the rest of the video after the 10:20 mark is black
At the end of every Garage54 video I think, that must be it now, they can't possibly come up with a new experiment to try on those poor LADAs. Thankfully they prove me wrong every time 😂❤👍
the video went black at 10:15 only audio after that !
Video went out at 10:17
It might move but you're going to get slippage under load. And those will get worn out very quickly. The shaft speed isn't high enough to keep pressure applied to reduce slipping.
Love it!!!
You have hooked up 2 engines, 3 engines and an insane 4 engines......but, can you put 2 motors in a lada and have one engine driving the right wheels and the second engine drives the left wheels, might run like a tank, you turn by slowing one engine and speeding the other one up. May as well put tracks on it if you can!!!
This accurately captures what it's like to drive on pavement in Snowrunner.
this was fun looks like maybe more weight on the shoes would help and a welded diff to equalize power to both wheels. anyway great effort putting this together always fun kudos.
the most efficient car ever made
Try welding the differential and use those centrifugal for each wheel. Its like an auto mechanical transaction control
Video is broken at 10:15, after the transition effect, video never comes back.
Don't know what happened but at 1015 into video I had black screen and only audio. I tried the cursor on the line and it also shows up black. I have my res to 360p but I still should get video unless useless tube screwed up the transferr.
Dam last 7 inutes of video goes black. Really enjoying this
Is there a way to use the clutch to make a break? Clutch and flywheel on the back wheels of a front wheel drive car.

Video blacks out at 10:15!
why is the halfs of the video black?
Guys, at around the 10-minute Mark, the screen goes black. You still hear the audio but the video it doesn't exist after the transition.
Lighter return springs and closer tolerance between pads and hub.
@rossbrumby1957

there were no return springs- they only had them on the clutch replacement version.
Dumb idea here but would it be possible to fit a torque converter onto a manual transmission? Kinda like a liquid clutch
@mann_idonotreadreplies

It's possible but fluid won't circulate.
Should make your own belt clutch system that's like in most side by sides or 4 wheelers.
I am glad I didn't have to smell that when it started smoking
10:17 what went wrong with the video?
Can this saturn V run on bio diesel vs a v12 lada using a tank engine found in by backyard
I think you should install the centrifugal clutch in place of the original clutch, because the gearbox starts with first gear, while the engine's RPM is higher.
