What if we could do youth justice better? | Alex Lloyd | TEDxLondon
Alex Lloyd is a youth justice advocate; in this talk he shares a new approach to youth offending. He argues that tackling the root causes of crime through intervention, diversion and rehabilitation will bring us closer to ending the cycle of crime. Alex is an associate lecturer in psychology at the University of East London and has been working with young offenders from Hackney and Islington in his role as a Community Panel Member on their youth offending team. Alex engages with convicted offenders to help them action their community-based sentences. His objective is to help young offenders repair the harm caused by crime. In his capacity as a lecturer, he has conducted research on adolescent risk behaviour and its link to antisocial tendencies. In his spare time, Alex likes to rock climb, read and travel. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Same here in America. The entire prison system(which is for profit smh) needs a dose or two of humanity, where we focus on rehabilitation instead of punishment. It's like locking a wild animal in a cage with other aggressive animals, beating it when it does something you dont like, then letting it out after a set amount of time and expecting it to help little old ladies cross the street and feed babies candy.
A better law will not make you a good person. It's almost impossible to chage, to make better the behavour of our teenagers only by changing the rules of the society. It's unending and seemingly useless cutting the leaves of the tree while the root is stil the same. We need to improve ourselves in order our kids will be happy. I appreciate what you' ve been doing. You are very brave and courageous and possess great vitality.
More time for Youth Offending / Youth Justice Workers to spend engaging and supporting young people, as opposed to being weighed down by needless bureaucracy and paperwork, would make a significant difference. Along with more money spent on Youth Services too
Why is this video underrated
