I love this take on time travel and it’s arguable the most accurate one imo. You traveling to the past has always been apart of the past and you’re just progressing along a timeline where you’ll eventually decide to go back in time. Along with that you can’t go to the future because it’s just not possible.

My guess is there’s physics we haven’t discovered yet that shows time travel to the past is simply impossible even theoretically. Wouldn't a tube, with sections that rotated in tandem with each other, serve as an "infinite" cylinder? As long as your path was in line with the rotational axis of the cylinder, from your frame of reference, it would seem as if you're travelling forward infinitely.

Time doesn't change as a result of how fast you move, your perspective of time changes based on how fast you move relative to the observed element. If you moved away from a clock saying 12:00 pm at the speed of light, that clock would say 12:00pm forever. If you some how moved faster than the speed of light away from that clock the clock would eventually show 11:59 am, 11:58 am and so on. Forgetting all that, if you only moved at the speed of light from the clock and had a separate clock next to you on your space ship, that clock would count time as normal. If you set an alarm on that clock for 1 hour that clock would ring after 1 hour of moving away from the original 12:00pm clock and that 12:00pm clock would still say 12:00pm. Finally if you moved back to the original 12:00pm observed clock at the speed of light and got back to your original position within 1 hour, that clocks time would accelerate for two hours reading 2:00pm when you get to it. In short you would accomplish with respect to time travel the same feat by sitting down and watching the clock for 2 hours, that's what it's called relativity. That all is mundane, the amazing part is the moving away from Earth lets say at FTL means that you actually moved to a space time that was Earths past, not sure what could be done with that but it is amazing.

You wouldn't be able to go back before the time machine was first powered up. The time machine would need to be powered up and operate continuously along the stretch of time you want to be able to travel backwards and forwards in. This is why we don't see time travelers in our reality right now.

Well if u want to build an infinite tipler's cylinder....we can make it a circle around the earth like a hula hoop which will make it infinite. If we want to make it spin billion times per minute we have to figure out dark matter and place it at top and bottom of the cylinder with solar powered jet engine typa mechanism to spin it in the direction we want.... Understanding dark matter can also help us to make a field around earth and the cylinder to protect em from space debris.

A time machine is a problem sort of like falling. The hard part is not the traveling. Its the end of the journey that is problematic. You need something that can not only travel through time AND be able to STOP traveling through time to deposit you in the past. You need one that would be able to return you to your time of origin. Traveling to the past could theoretically be possible but in all likelihood the nature of causality would likely make returning to your native time (or traveling to the future in general) impossible. Once you are in the past you might be able to move forward in time but which future would you travel to? Your presence in the past alters time immediately. From that point all timelines in the multiverse then diverge from you intruding to that point in time each of which with the butterfly effect of your presence that would exponentially vary each time line. So by going into the past you ensure YOUR future is now does not exist. Even if you are safely sheilded from space time, timelines cannot be when you become a part of them when you were not before.

You'd become Shrodinger's cat if you go back in time far enough. You'd die of old age (or whatever else) before you return to the present, so you'd be both dead and alive. If time travel were possible, that is.

ok so theorically it is impossible to have an infinite cylinder, but what if the cylinder made a loop, using a wormhole (I know it is also theoritical stuff but why not go all out) we could have both ends meet each other while keeping the cylinder straight right, would this fit the requirement for infinite lenght?
