What if the USSR Defended Czechoslovakia in 1938?

Historically Czechoslovakia was famously partitioned in 1938, where they lost the Sudetenland to Germany in the Munich conference. I want to raise a question regarding what if the Soviet Union decided to help the seemingly lonely Czechoslovakia against the German aggressor.
This was possible, as the two countries had good relations, as seen on the 16th of May 1935, when the Czechoslovak-Soviet Treaty of Mutual Assistance was signed between the two governments. Allegedly, Stalin pledged to help Czechoslovakia in the event of an attack by Germany or Poland, but only if France decides to help first.
You will soon find out how the Soviet Union supporting Czechoslovakia would affect German morale and what effect it would have on events in Europe. Let me show you what I came up with.

Based on what I was reading yesterday Stalin offered to defend Czechoslovakia while or immediately before the Sudatenland conference was going on, but neither Romania or Poland allowed Soviet troops through (due to the obvious risk of the Soviets using this as an easy opportunity to get a new puppet state). However, I don’t think it’s impossible that Romania could have been convinced, and that is probably what I would use as a POD.

Generaly I spotted a couple mistakes or simmilarities to hoi4 map, for example when you show Poland split in WW2 suwałki is part of the soviet occupation, like in hoi4, while it was German, simmilarly borders of zaolzie are the exact same as in hoi4 even though they are slightly innacurate. Map projecetion of hoi4 is also used which is kinda weird since most maps don't use it, and the borders have the same accuracy of hoi4 even in places where hoi gets the borders slightly off when other maps do not.

Look... Poland had around 120,000 Active duty soldiers in 1938 and Czechoslovakia had 1 250 000. Not to mention that every Czechoslovakia division was equipped with machine guns, and had one of the best-equipped infantry divisions in the world. Poland would have been wiped out in a couple days, if for whatever reason they were in war against Soviet and Czechoslovakia... There were forts on the borders with Germany, so Czechoslovakia had enough to visit Poland... The "conquered territories"(that you draw) were literary random blobs... Hitler himself mentioned in his book, that his plan was to attack Brno and Ostrava to cut Bohemia from Slovakia. Not to mention, that you didn't mention at all, that Hungary also seized territory. For the reasons above, Poland didn't want a conflict with Czechoslovakia. Certainly, it couldn't afford to get into conflict, considering they had a 6-year plan and enemies on both east and west. Realistically speaking, if Czechoslovakia declined, then Hungary and Germany would attack them. They would use airspace advantage and bombard Prague and Ostrava. Considering Soviet interference, they would probably be sent to handle Hungaria, considering they divisions were worse in both experience and equipment. Czechoslovakia would probably try to surprise Hungaria at some point and get them capitulated with dominant ltz. Still, then again, Germany would probably help them and such a plan would have failed. I don't think there is a single point that you made, that would have made sense... which is probably caused by you getting knowledge from hoi4, but it might be something else. Either way, you seem to over-sympathize the power of the Soviets. Their army was at best third behind Germany and Czechoslovakia (of active parties), but considering their lack of equipment even Poland would probably caused quite a dense in the early days. In the end, Czechoslovakia couldn't win, cause Germany could just flatten it with ground.

In the north of Moravia there are mountains and at the same time there is the best fortified part of the border with Germany, a lot of heavy fortifications and a lot of other fortifications (light fortifications) for the whole Czechoslovakia there were 263 heavy objects and 10014 light objects. Moreover, the czechoslovak mobilized army in 1938 had 1 250 000 men, and Germany had 1600 000, and as we know, for a attacking army, needs 3 times superiority. so the north would probably not have been completely won, it would have been more like the south of Moravia where there are lowlands, but there would have been deployed again a number of our tanks lt-35 which far exceeded the German Pzkpfw II.

The French would not be allowed to occupy all of the Rhineland as Britain would oppose it. The occupation of the Baltics and annexation has always been deemed illegal. 10:21 In geopolitics the first thing one does is look at their neighbor. I think we would deny it anyway, we were capitalist country and our politicians knew that help from USSR now = communism later. In case of at least little help in 1938 and finishing our fortifications in time, history would be completely different, Germany was not THAT strong in 1938 and our army was pretty modern and we have more than 1 milion men mobilised in 1938 and defenders have always advantage, if we fought and western countries admitted that we are victims, Hitler would be beaten already in 1938 or 1939. The biggest fail of our politics was to not getting Poland on our side, they had 20 years for that after WWI and they failed. If Poles believed to us that Hitler will be danger for everyone, we would totally smash him together in 1938, history is b**ch. You explained it actually pretty well, we were ordered to not fight by western countries and our allies France and UK, if we resisted in 1938, we could be seen as aggressors and those who are against peace, but Poles still believe that we just joined nazis, their version of history is always weird when I am confronted with that, they have no clue what actually happened in 1938 and 1939, they just learn Poland good, everyone else bad. Their point of view is actually pretty similar to how Russians see their history. BTW, I like Poland and Poles, don't take me wrong, but never speak about history with them, they really have no clue what actually happened in many historical events. Another thing that is needed to be mentioned is that Russians absolutely hated Czechs and Slovaks before WWII, because of our legions in Russia fighting against both - tsarists and reds and they also blame us from stealing their national gold. If Soviets helped us, it would not be actual help, but just occupation from other side.

soviet offensyve in poland is very unrealistic soviet have problem pushing finland in 1940 minewhile polish army was stronger then finish and soviet army was way weaker in 1938 then in 1940 and if you add posible polish belaruso-ukrainian paritsant attack in belarus and ukraine + posible french support of poland becose france was ally of poland and hated communism and you hav recipe for soviet catastrophy other then that is very good video

I agree, but you have to understand that Poland would be absolutely be caught by surprise. This cannot be underestimated + I mentioned it's like the winter war, but it ends with white peace, so it's even worse for the soviets. I think I was a bit misunderstood here

The polish and Finnish terrain was very different. Eastern Poland is pretty easy to invade, but pretty much all of Finland is either super cold or has other defendable capabilities

@@kotelpl1451 Not quite. Soviets were inequipped for the Harsh climate and Finnish guerilla like tactics (motti) did counter the soviets expecting close to no resistance. As A finn, i can say that all kinds of Victory parade items were found on dead soviets. It is also true that the soviets suffered more casualties from hunger and cold than from fighting and the soviet border was desolate with pretty much only a single supply line connecting Murmansk, olonets and onega to the rest of the ussr which could not support many troops making most of the frontline unsuited for an offensive. The polish border however had moderatly big cities such as Minsk when the only big city near Finland, Leningrad was seperated from the rest of Finland by the narrow Mannerheim line and nearby coastal guns on Laatokka and the gulf of Finland. On top of that, the finns were ready for A soviet offensive.
