What If the Ring of Fire Erupted Right Now?

Ғылым және технология

There's a deadly 40,000 km (29,400 mi)-long zone that passes through 15 countries. This area is dotted with volcanoes, giving it the name The Ring of Fire. And we've decided that right now, all 452 volcanoes are going to erupt at the same time. Talk about an explosive event! Could this event cause subduction? Will the tectonic plates be drastically affected? Would the aftermath bring about a new supercontinent?

Japan, indonesia and the phillipines would be absolutely doomed, however that also includes neighbouring countries. Ever heard of the year without summer? It went from indonesia all way to europe! Considering that indonesia is the country with the most active volcanoes in the company of deadly volcanoes, im quite surprised indonesia wasnt even mentioned here. Well basically majority of humanity would be wiped.

All andean countries as well. There, people literally live on top of massive volcanoes or near them, like in the case of Bogota and Quito, which are surrounded by active volcanoes. Recently Cotopaxi in Ecuador nearly exploded (it just threw out Ash) but it was enough to terrorize the Ecuadorian capital.

In Australia they have discovered the longest chain of super volcanoes on the planet that stretches from Victoria right through to the top end of Queensland with an ancient tectonic plate running in a straight line. The last volcano in Victoria had errupted around 4,000 years ago and huge studies are now under way to determine if there's any activity still.

My university sits on top of the old buried campus and my own home was originally a two story house and our garage today was actually the second floor balcony. I have never experienced an eruption and I hopefully never will. The earthquake two years ago was also scary enough and we were pretty far from the epicenter then

Have you ever witnessed an erupting volcano upfront and personal? My husband is from El Salvador, a very small country in Central America, but with 17 volcanoes, many of which are still semi-active or dormant, meaning they can wake up, and erupt at anytime. Even though I’m born and bred here in Toronto, I’ve been to El Salvador 20 times, and have seen at volcano go from a sleeping giant, to a monstrous explosion of red hot fury, that’s both terrifying, and mesmerizing at the same time. This was just a small one, only 2000 feet high, but to feel the earth under your feet tear itself apart, and see the incredible explosions of gas, rock, magma and ash go hurtling towards the sky at supersonic speeds is beyond description. That day is forever burned into my memory, we were just lucky enough to escape the danger zone by the proverbial skin of our teeth before it was too late. We were suppose to climb it that day, and camp out in the crater overnight, as many commonly did...thank god our fight was early, or we’d have been fried alive! It changed my entire perspective, and gave me a very healthy respect towards the power of nature. No matter what we build, we are NOT masters of our planet, nature is, and it can easily destroy anything we create. It was a VERY humbling experience, and as terrifying as it was, I’m grateful for having been given the chance to witness it without harm...however, I definitely wouldn’t recommend anyone go looking for a similar experience, it’s too dangerous and unpredictable.

@@itsmelc I know, I have a lot of friends from the Philippines, who told me about not just that island, but many of them. I’ve always found volcanos fascinating, even though deadly, without them, we wouldn’t exist. They are constant reminders that the Earth is indeed, a living, breathing entity constantly altering its landscape, with absolutely mesmerizing, powerful and violent acts of nature. I consider myself lucky to have been able to witness what I did, and walk away without a scratch, sadly, not everyone is so lucky. Number one rule in life is to respect nature, and how powerful it can be. So many people underestimate it, with an arrogance that humanity has governance over nature, such arrogance. As I said, before, no matter what we build nature can destroy in seconds. Speaking of the Philippines, it’s definitely on my bucket list, is there any particular part of the Philippines that you would recommend, especially for people like me who love to explore the country, and not just sit on the beach at a resort? For me, resorts are boring, I like to travel amongst the local people, and get to know the country and the people, it’s the best way to truly appreciate everything each country has to offer.

@What If: You omitted the part of the Ring Of Fire from Southern America through Antarctica up to New Zealand. This is the 2nd most active Volcanic Region, 1st being Indonesia to Japan, 3rd being Central to South America. In addition, yes, the Atlantic Ocean is expanding as too is The Pacific Ocean & The Indian Ocean. No. Volcanism is not caused by tectonic movement, tectonic movement is caused by volcanism. The Earth is always expanding, however, this increases on numerous occasions as we move throughout the Galaxy. Volcanism is caused by a combination of 3 factors, 1/ Solar energy from our star, other stars & supernovae is converted to matter in the core. 2/ Gravitational fields from other planetary bodies pull from multiple directions increasing internal heat, 3/ some of the crust is drawn back into the Mantle, but is less than 2/3rds than what is released through volcanism. We are currently in an increased expansion period.
