I am a bit of a Samsung fan boy, got Samsung SSDs monitors and used there phones for over a decade have the fold 3. to that end Love the square design looks so much better. but again no integrated s pen no upgrade to the cameras and the outside screen isn't like a normal phone plus batter isnt looking like its being upgraded. i think the negativity is just disappointment that samsung the company that innovates has not for what since the fold 2 not a lot has really changed? especially for the price. its pretty simple to me. give us the same outside screen as the ultra same cameras same spen experience same or bigger battery. and dust resistant give us these 5 things and your done.

For me its hard for me to leave Samsung man... I left apple in 2014 and have never looked back. I love everything about Samsung: they have the most innovative phones especially with s pen support, best looking watches, best software. I was considering going over to google fold 2 or one plus open, but when i think about the s pen, and the Samsung ecosystem i just end up saying "the screen not being much wider aint that bad" haha a wider screen is better than a screen the same size at the end of the day.🤷🏽‍♂️ It's like threatening to leave your woman and she says "go on then" and you look out there and see what's out there, you just end up saying "i better stay put"🤣 Great video Shane! 👍🏼

I Much Prefer the boxy design with flat sides. I hate the rounded look that most people seem to prefer. I dont care about the crease. Its fine now to me, it can only get better. My biggest conplaint is the camera. And to be more specific, the zoom. The camera is fine on the Fold 5. It's just once you get over 15 feet away that the pictures start to fall apart. I would also LIKE better battery, but it's not a deal breaker for me, as the Fold 5 is good enough. Oh and P.S. Thinborne got back to me. The cases arent for sale yet. They won't be available until July 6th. So they're not really "sold out". They just haven't started yet.

I had the zfold 5 and kept it long enough for the s24 Ultra to be released. I think the thing that bothers me the most is Samsung simply not listening or caring what the consumer wants. I switched a few months ago from an iPhone 13 to a Z Fold 5 (I've always been an iPhone user). Before making such a big change, I checked every or almost every foldable available at the moment. The Z Fold 5 wasn't the widest or the slimmest, and it didn't have the best camera. Besides the cameras (if it were up to me, I would've gotten rid of them just to have a flat back), it is pretty much the most complete foldable phone. Also, take into account that the software is a very important part of foldables, and Samsung is arguably the best with foldable software. For other foldables, I found it hard to get information about the hinge and the general durability over time. So yeah, it might not be perfect, but I still believe it's the best. And yes, it's a bit narrow and hard to write with two hands, but with one hand, the outer display is awesome. Apparently, I mostly use it with one hand when its folded because when it's folded, I'm usually outside and rarely have both hands free. Either I have the car key in the other hand or a bottle of water. The point is, it's wonderful to use with one hand.

When making a significant investment in a premium-priced phone at $2,000, it is reasonable to expect exceptional quality in all aspects of the device. However, it appears that the camera quality is comparable to that of a $500 phone, and the battery life is insufficient, requiring multiple charges throughout the day. Given the substantial financial commitment, one would anticipate receiving the best that Samsung has to offer in terms of overall performance and features. Unfortunately, the specifications provided are mediocre, and the price tag seems excessive. JUST BECAUSE IT FOLDS

Just note that the inner screen camera is actually pretty decent, it fulfills its intended function with flying colors, and the other person is wrong. Yes, it's 4mp. It also has Samsung's image processing there to take the mediocre image and make it look decent. Now, with a better selfie camera on the front when closed, and the ability to use the main camera for selfies when open, the only time you would ever be using the under-display camera as a camera is for video calls - and for that use case, the bitcrushing that happens during video call streaming makes what minor artifacting the mediocre camera leaves invisible. In a numbers race, the under display camera loses hard to every hole punch on the market - but it does its job, and in real world use you won't be able to tell a big difference, and then you get an uninterrupted display as a much more noticeable result.

The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on a Fold yet, is my worry about reliability and I don't fault Samsung for seemingly prioritizing that and user experience over bleeding edge technology. I think for most casual people the novelty of the folding display is still present(my girlfriend who is an iOS user often flirts with the idea of owning a foldable for this very reason.) So I think that should be enough to hold them over for now. Presently, Samsung's biggest obstacle I believe is the price. (Forgive me if this is a little incoherent folks, I'm in the middle of my graveyard shift and somehow I've made it this far without a sip of coffee.) It's clear the Note 7 thing was a turning point for them, so even with a relatively new market like Foldables, they're probably gonna play it safe by changing just enough for it to count as an improvement, but not rocking the boat too much.

    1. I like the square body. It's what I miss from having used Notes for years. I'm welcoming this change. 2. Why do people want Sammy to match other manufacturers? Hey, Samsung is stagnant. They need to look JUST LIKE EVERYONE else! Uh, isn't this the point of options and choices? Some people like passport size; some people like the OP because outer screen is similar to a slab; others prefer the candy bar for easy of one hand operation. Y'all would be complaining that everyone is doing the same thing should Samsung match others... Samsung has made it clear that they will stick with this form factor; they want you to open it up and use it. They are refining what they have; they are improving; they just won't make a huge physical change. 3. Crease - it's not an issue; nobody uses their phone turned off looking at the crease. When using it, it's totally fine; and as you mentioned Shane, I'll take the crease at the expense of not having a good IP rating. 4. Software experience (including Dex and ecosystem) is what has prevented me from getting the OP Open. I have added it to my cart and almost pulled the plus several times! 5. Cameras - bruh, come one, most people take pics to post on social media at most; they are just fine! And people keep their devices 3+ years so why upgrade cameras every year? Yes, as tech nuts we would like them to be better, but thinking about most users, they are just fine... 6. Price - I wish it would go down for sure! With all this said... Do I wish the cover display was wider? For sure! Do I wish the crease was less visible? Of course. Do I wish I had the stupid zoom like on my previous Note/Ultra? You bet! Am I excited about the new device? Yes! Will I upgrade from my Fold 5? Absolutely!

I dont believe it's about wanting Samsung to match other manufacturers. It's about wanting the most value for the high price tag. I don't think anyone would complain if the Samsung hardware was as good as Chinese manufacturer's hardware. Many people don't have "options and choices," and are stuck with Samsung, hence the valid anger about Samsung holding back yet still asking for the most money. And BTW, the crease can be an issue for S Pen users. idc about the what the crease looks like while looking at the screen. but when it effects the usability of the device, that's an issue.

@@sadcub1 The discussion I always see is about the size especially outer screen. That's the comparison I'm talking about. I agree with you that for the price we should expect more, but looking at the overall package I still think Samsung is better hardware-wise. Again, personally, I don't think they're holding back - my feeling is that they've picked their lane and staying in it, whether we like it or not. I hope I'm wrong though and we'll see larger Folds. While it would be a behemoth of a device, I would totally rock a S24U sized-device, doubled up (would need to be thin and cameras I'm afraid would suffer as there's no room to cram them inside such a thin body). Only time will tell. And yes, your point about the S Pen is totally valid. I used to use it on my Note/Ultra devices but rarely do these days and therefore personally it doesn't affect me as much. I hope we get more competition in the US. I'm curious to see what OP does with the Open 2.

@@emanuelneiconi Understood. I think what people generally imagine a foldable device should be, is a smartphone that can turn into a tablet. In other words, it should be just as usable as a smartphone as it is as a tablet. However, the outer screen on the Folds is not very user-friendly, with apps not optimizing well with the cramped aspect ratio and media getting cropped. Typing can also be difficult. Ofc some people the narrow form of the Fold, but I think the narrowness prevents a lot of people from even considering the Fold in the first place. I believe the mass of users want a 2-in-1 device if they are gonna pay for a folding device. Not just a portable tablet. And Samsung should be listening to their consumers rather than just doing what they themselves want. The OPO was named the best foldable of last year by many reviewers largely because of its hardware. It was OP's first foldable and was already better than the Fold's 5th iteration. So, I believe Samsung is holding back. It's disappointing how they make one very minor upgrade each year yet charge the same price or more, and on top of that, the Fold is Samsungs most expensive device yet they can't even bother putting the latest specs in it. The biggest "upgrade" in the Fold last year was that it finally closed with no gap. That should've been done by the Fold 2. Samsung is taking their sweet time to give us a foldable worth its price. I think that's what upsets people.

@@sadcub1 Absolutely valid points and am totally with you. See my reply above - I want a huge foldable personally... Maybe I'm trying to justify my decision to stick with Samsung. I much prefer OneUI. Dex is amazing and has come in handy more times than I can count. OP Open was named best foldable for good reason but in my opinion it's not. Yes it's larger. Yes it's thinner. But worse IP rating, more failures, repair issues/woes/terrible experiences with some owners, etc. Overall the Fold is a much better device (and it better be it being 5th gen). Many of my points do not give Samsung a pass. Yes, they have got to listen to their customers. We demand better. My whole point in all these comments is what my wife once said (completely different situation but I think it applies): It doesn't excuse the behavior, it just explains it. I really hate that I'm considering "upgrading" to the Fold 6. even though the screen is still not wide enough for me among other disappointments, I may have to take the minor improvements I can get, as the Fold 5 outer screen width is abysmal. and I hate that Samsung plays their consumers by doing just this and that I would be playing their game exactly how they want. As much as I think the hardware of the OPO is better, I'm with you about switching. I can't get past their finicky software, inferior ecosystem, and poor user support. And the main downside of the OPO for me is the lack of an available pen which is crucial for my use case. None of the other Chinese foldables are available in my country (and don't have pens anyway I believe). I just don't think Samsung should be defended for their actions with the Fold. They can and should be doing better and it irks me that people are trying to give them a pass. If OP provided a [available] pen and reduced their software bugs, then they will have me, as I do believe they have the best foldable on the market in my country-- just not for my personal use case (yet). I'm stuck with Samsung for now if I want a foldable, so I speak my disappointments in hopes that soon they will listen to their majority of Fold consumers and make a change.

Gahhh... I'm going to try, Shane. I like that it has water resistance, the cover SCREEN is getting bigger, although I would have preferred a.... Nope can't do it, it's ridiculous recycled phone that is virtually indistinguishable from the fold 2. At this point I would get a OnePlus Open before the z fold 6. I have a glimmer of hope now that it appears the pixel fold 2 is being announced in August.... Ugh, I wish the OnePlus Open had wireless charging, it would be in my pocket right now 100%. Still holding into my note 20 ultra... I will miss my sd card slot, I have a 1tb filled with movies and TV shows, it's cool having an entire offline media library with me wherever I go. It's frustrating that none of the Chinese phones have band 71 support for T-Mobile 600mhz 5g, they are all a non starter... Unless that cover display on the z fold 6 is wider in the hand than it appears in photos, it's a no go from me

I'm all for this. It's nice to have a positive outlook and I'll admit...I'm not keen on the fold 6 but it might tick someone else's boxes. I think the reason folks are down on it is because in the space of a few months, they went from the only option to 1 of 3 and their next offering doesn't change battery size nor camera hardware AND it costs a hundred bucks more. Totally understand folks dunking on it but (hypocrisy warning) maybe we need to ease up until it's in our hands and see what it truly has to offer.

It's a really nice refined device, look at the S23 to S24, nice refined improvement. The screen failure rate for the 5 appears to have been really low, 5 years of hinge iterations has to be helping that. I read some horror stories about the Oneplus and the Honor with screen issues. Then software, if you are buying a folding phone, do you want the best software? Then it's the Samsung..

I think a good jump would be from ZF3 to ZF6. I don't feel the need to upgrade every year unless it's a bigger difference. Which may be what they're after. But then why make one every year? (Rhetorical question) I just wasn't sure about the price jump. But that's just me. They do offer a good trade in and decent customer support. But I have the one plus open. I prefer their split screen options. Love it! But yes... I miss Samsung software, customizing and wireless charging.

The Samsung UI is so heavily underrated. Only the seperate homescreens is a winner already. I really really really hate all the other devices where the big inside screen only acts as two outside screens. It's really ugly and lacks customise abilities. I'm baffled no other manufacturer has come op with this idea or looked at Samsung what makes their software experience so much better. If Samsung improves the width of the outer screen and maybe a bit better camera's there's no contest

I am most likely going to get the Z Fold 6. I am going to be coming from a Note 20 Ultra so the upgrade should actually be worthwhile. I will say for those moving from other foldables there are reviewers that have given more hands on reviews comparing the OnePlus Open and the Z Fold 5. Obviously that isn't the Z Fold 6 but there should be some improvements (even if they are minor). I've seen mixed results on what the reviewers chose in the comparisons. What I came away with is the cameras are unanimously better on the Oneplus, the fast charging is amazing, and the software is mostly pretty good. I also got from the more in depth reviewers that there are some shortcomings in the software like some things not fitting the inner screen in an optimal way, wifi connection issues, and in some scenarios not pulling up full text when scrolling down. By comparison the Z Fold 5 supposedly had their software more optimized. The cameras were not bad but not all lenses fair well up against the OnePlus. The software overall came off as a little better on the Z Fold going by the reviews. Moving to the release of the Z Fold 6, it is obviously going to improve over the Z Fold 5. The camera hardware appears to be the same but my assumption is they are trying to go the Pixel route and make it better via processing and software (which I am fine with if the can come close to matching Google's accumen in that area). I've also seen the suggestion of possibly 2 more hours of battery life if I read correctly. The last thing is I have heard OnePlus will not be releasing a new Open to compete this year. So any advantages that OnePlus had may be reduced, or lost. The areas where OnePlus fell short of Samsung may be widened by them not releasing this year. I am sure the OnePlus Open is a great device butI am more confident that I will enjoy the Z Fold more and I actually like using the S Pen on occasion even if it won't be on the level of the S Pen that came with the later Notes and the Ultra models.

I'm not looking for s24 ultra cameras (that would be nice because those cameras are insane plus it's $500-600 more expensive) but I don't want to see 3 years of the same thing. They could absolutely improve the software, the hardware is fine. There's tons of resolution to work with but improve it. I like the new design but also skeptical of how it feels (even though every normal person puts a case on it). The folds are just a little too thick to put a heavy duty case on it. I use the magsafe ecosystem and I put a ring on it to help hold it. I'm just going to be annoyed if they slightly change the frame and slap a new chip and call it a day. The cover screen seems like a nice change, it'll seems to be one handable (sorta) but not awkward to use just about any app besides messages. Put 16 GB of RAM at least (id like 512 storage) improve the cameras (at least the software) make the cover screen better to use for apps but still compact (if you need more space open the thing, that's kinda the point of a fold) and i'd be satisfied. Oh and bring back the f**king memory card slot. This tries to be an all in 1 device and I wanna put an SD card in there. The IR blaster would be great to return as well.

As someone who actually likes the aspect ratio of the Z Fold, my two cents are that I would much rather that design is refined and still available rather than Samsung's fold becoming a carbon copy of OnePlus. If I wanted the OnePlus I would buy that, but I don't - I specifically want the design that Samsung uses. If I lived in fantasy land, sure, I'd want the Z Fold design, except as thin and creaseless as the chinese phones, and the battery and cameras and internal S Pen of the S24 Ultra, and also IP68, and also completely indestructible with zero points of failure. Such a device is physically impossible right now though, and of all the folds on the market, Samsung's is the closest to what I personally want - so if it's just little refinements here and there every year, fine. That's still the one I'm gonna get when it's time to upgrade.

Unfortunately the entire foldable discourse is overwhelmingly dominated by people who seem to be ranking the entire experience of any foldable based off the outer screen width and a crease that you barely see on older Z Folds when it's held in an orientation that you'd use it at. And when you imply that there can be something more important than the outer display width... they cuss and rage and call you a Samsung fanboy. Me personally... I'm very conflicted because I kinda don't wanna like the Fold6 and I do... it has that Nubia-style ultra-boxy design that I love, it's getting lighter, and they're cutting into the bezel to make the screen larger instead of drastically changing the device dimensions... which was actually a thing I've mentioned they should've done in the Fold5 in your comments many times over. ... physically they're doing everything that makes it appeal to me. Which means I'm gonna have to finally confront the death of native 32-bit compatibility if I want this phone... seeing if i can let go of any of these games I bought, or pouring hours into some emulator that hopefully runs all my 32-bit games and runs them well.

I will get the Fold 6 and trade my 5 in. I need a slightly bigger keyboard and would not mind a standard phone like appearance of the fold 6. There bezels are just too much bezel on the 5. The fold 6 in navy will look sleek. I like the small phone. I just unfold it if i need a bigger screen. The biggest letdown is the camera. But the design is changing. It the past, we used to be happy if the design had changed. Nowadays, it's not enough.
