I'm not really sure about Ascari. Let's bear in mind he wasn't driving an F1 car on that fateful day at Monza. He borrowed a Ferrari 750 Sport from his friend and colleague Eugenio Castellotti. You'd argue that he made that attempt just to overcome the shock of his crash at Monaco few days before and that this specific crash would have never happened in this alternate universe. Still, with his system he would have been banned by F1, as he achieved his first title in 1952, but not by motor-racing as a whole. Especially for an informal session. That being said, I share with you all my hope that, at least in this parallel reality, the great Alberto Ascari did actually safely survive. He is deeply missed.

Yeah it's crazy that you can miss out on 2 of your real titles. I was expecting a couple like Phil Hill or Keke Rosberg but not Piquet. Glad I could shed some light on some driver who don't get talked about as much. F1 has a lot of history but obviously some names are a lot more famous than others
@paulmckinstry6374

Obviously, Piquet voluntarily dropped back from 1st to 3rd in the final GP of 1983, because in reality that was all he needed to be champion. Presumably he wouldn't have dropped lower than 2nd in this alternative reality.

You could go through the effort yourself… Ive completely gone through 1990 and 1991 and half-heartedly done 1992 and 1993. It is a bit tedious, reclassifying every race and then adding up the points afterwards, so I can definitely appreciate the effort

Fantastic stuff, thanks. And an idea for a future video: multiple champions per year. Plenty of times when a season ends, there is always talk of someone "deserving" a title more than the actual champ. Well, what if you could have two or three champions for some seasons? Like 2014 both Hamilton and Rosberg, 2006 both Alonso and Schumacher (as Schumacher arguably lost the title with the engine failure). Purely subjective and not at all controversial topic, but should make for fun speculation and seeing someone like Prost grab 10 titles would be interesting.
Glad I found this channel early, great video bud!

Great concept and looking forward to the next part. Imagine what would have happened in situations where drivers collided with someone who would now be banned and how that could’ve shaken up the results. Similar to Ocon’s win in Hungary where Bottas (who I’m assuming wins a championship) is no longer around to take out a quarter of the grid.
@MrVsGarage I have an other idea for a long time: Drivers are not connected to teams. Instead, they do the first 12 races in each teams. Then, the pilots with the most points will do the rest 12 races in the top 3 teams. This way, no pilot will dominate for 5 years just because a team got one technical rule better than the rest. And we get to find out who is the best pilot. And the best team still wins.
Cannot wait for part 2!

Interesting thought experiment. It is highly possible that unknown new rookies could have shaken up the title hunts in many ways. Grabbing championships themselves after a few seasons or sewing chaos on track, like colliding with somebody who otherwise could have won a championship. The driver market would have been vastly different altogether, as McLaren’s MP4/4 could have still won just as many championships, but with a different veteran driver every year. Or without the input of some drivers to develop a car, because they’d already been banned, some dominant cars never get developed. Schumacher for example wouldn’t be there to help Ferrari build a car that dominated so many seasons.
I have been doing this sim for the past few years and just finished it
Hey, love your work! Can you calculate a worldranking list like in tennis? So different races offer different amount of points and they get "deleted" the following year

Crap!! Never would have known if you hadn't pointed that out, the picture was tagged as 1988. Well, at that wasn't driven either as Prost Senna were still banned so the point is still half correct.
I would love if you did the same thing, but WITH potential transfers, even if you start in 2010 to simplify it for you
You win the championship, then next year you have to move to another team. Simply and competitive
If Gilles Villeneuve had won a championship in 1979 then retired, it would have prevented his tragic death during qualifying at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix, and he would probably still be alive today in 2024, perhaps an F1 team owner at Villeneuve Autosports (a team which he sadly did not live to found).
