Ash REALLY lucked out with his starter compared to the others. Geodude is bulky but slow with multiple weaknesses, Abra requires a lot of sleep and patience before it can evolve into a capable fighter, and Gastly is a trickster and highly unorthodox for a brand new trainer. Machop is a strong and deceptively intelligent fighting type, one that will match Ash’s confidence very well

Also it really wouldn’t make sense for ash to get gastly to me because he’ll end up getting one in the anime and machop is the most like ash in starter wise. Also gastly is a direct counter to the other starters making rival battles mostly uninteresting and easy, while machop makes ash have to climb to overcome like it is in the anime.

This was an interesting spin on the "what if Ash didn't start with Pikachu " genre of what ifs. I had a feeling Ash would get Machop, and I'm glad to see how you've characterized him. Spunky and proud. I was not expecting Ash's first capture to be a freaking Gyrados. That is quite the bold choice for a rookie Ash. We'll have to see how this decision pans out. I'm curious to see how else Ash's team will change.

Even on this timeline, oak is still incompetent, enough to give an abra with no attacking moves to a new pokemon trainer.

The difference is that Teleport is actually helpful, as opposed to a Pokemon fully not listening

Ash catching Gyrados was a surprise but a welcome one, nice to see the alternate paths popping up so soon. makes it really enticing to see what comes next and what you plan to do going forward

This is such a great start for this new series. I can't believe Ash has machop and gyarados this early hope ash still catches some other new pokemon and get some old pokemon like charmander and bulbasaur but anyways a perfect start 30/10

I once did a pokemon role play with a friend and we came up with a few regional variants. One of those variants was a take on a more peaceful version of Gyarados. The idea was cause of the lack of predators that could take down a fully evolved Gyarados plus the temperate plankton filled waters lead to this species adapting to become peaceful filter feeders taking advantage of the dense plankton swarms.

Interesting story so far. It was a great start and i hope you make part 2.

Wow what a story. It did not take the wroute I was expecting. I kinda thought Gary would immediately want Machop, since it is strong, and has such big evolutions. Then Ash would wind up choosing the Gastly, since it's really silly and fun. But I am really interested in how seeing them both with a starter pokemon, that maybe has a bit more of the others personality, will play out. I also was admittedly not expecting Ash to catch a gyarados. It's such a high level and scary pokemon. Glad to see that he cannot immediately use it to its full advantage, and has to struggle a bit first. This is a really cool miX up of Ash's original formula for catching and training pokemon. I cannot wait to see more. Please let Team Rockett show up eventually

But once they Evolve to the next Stage (Machoke & Kadabra) I'm thinking an arc where Ash & Seda Trade Partners and have the others Final Stage for awhile before ULTIMATELY Trading back. As they'll need to Trade to get the Final Evolution of their Starters.

I normally wouldn't do OCs, but when planning this out, my attention was drawn to the fact that we really don't know any of the other Pallet Town Trainers. One of my friends suggested I could just use the Let's Go Protagonists as filler, which I did in one case, but for Seda, I felt like something could be done with a concept for an anime version of Leaf/Green

you should add a thing for badges and what pokemon he has on the bottom

big fan of the series so far, giving ash a machop, as soon as machop threw the first rock into the river i was like "he's gonna piss off a gyarados" and lo and behold, but then he caught the gyarados and im like "ohohoho yes!" and since he never met team rocket they aren't following him around, misty probably went home after finishing with her fishing, and i really like Sada (is that how her name is spelled) being the new female companion, i assume Brock is going to join ash and sada just like he joined ash and misty in canon. i can't wait to see more!

@@ElectroPikachu was trying to make a joke on the scene of Machop going too hard and making the pokemon run away. I took that as the anime/real world version of them fainting from the games as in the games you can't catch fainted pokemon where as the anime that wasn't really clear. In this Machop is so strong the beaten pokemon flee. False Swipe being a move that always leaves one hit point, so no matter how strong Machop gets its a move that can be used when they trying to catch more pokemon to add to the party. Plus as a mon that doesn't know how to hold back having a move that he can use that will allow him to hold back would be fitting and he can drop it once he learns to control his power better in the future.

I personally think that Oak would give him Pikachu no matter what because of the events of Pokémon 4ever movie Sam is young Oak after all

As stated, the point is that because there are four total trainers, rather than giving away the normal three starters, he prepared the four Pokemon that he handed out (each of which make a sort of type square as far as weaknesses and resistances). The four selected also aren't that easy to come by either, apart from Geodude and to an extent Gastly. In this case, the three starters would simply be with the breeders who bred them to give to Professor Oak (as the anime canonized this is how that works), and they'll be held until the next batch of trainers comes up

The regional starters at least in Kanto (&Johto) Are easy to catch. There are 5 wild members of squirtle squad before Ash gets to them but Squirtle is presented as the rarest honestly, there is a location where the venasaur line gather from across the region to evolve together lots of which are wild, there is a valley full of charizard who do nothing but fight eachother and date lol meaning lots of charmander eggs, Even Pikachu can just be found in the forest or in Pokemon centers presumably. The point isn't to give a rare Pokemon its to give a trainer something to act as a strong cornerstone of the team while also sharing a harmony of fairness with the contemporaries they start with. Line in Scarlet & Violet they try to make it clear the bonds good and bad friendly, rivalry, or both are important just as much as the bonds to your team

@@jojojohnson9647 The Bulbasaur area you're talking about is where they go to evolve, they're not always there as it's a seasonal thing. Charmander, and all five Squirtle were abandoned by their original trainers and the Squirtle Squad wouldn't want to work with humans so easily. The Charicific Valley is specifically for training, not dating. Pikachu isn't meant to be a starter in the Kanto Region. Ash only got it because he showed up late, and Professor Oak's actual starters were already selected. They're also not just supposed to be catching wild Pokemon and giving them to trainers either. It's confirmed in Hoenn that the starters come from special breeding facilities where they're prepared for the Professors. Rivalry and fairness doesn't involve Pikachu, as it wasn't a planned starter anyway (unless you're thinking of movie 4Ever stuff, which people say is why Ash got Pikachu), due to the fact Pikachu was actually a wild Pokemon, and wasn't raised to be trained by a trainer, let alone a new one

Must admit whilst I had a funny feeling Ash would pick Machop Im surprised Gary picked Ghastly given he did have an Alakazam and Golem in the anime and anime rarely follows the games Moves learning pace so it's unlikely Abra only knows Teleport But then again Ghastly does make sense given its Immunity to fighting as suppose to Abras resistance to it

Actually, the main Abra we saw in the original series was the exact same way. Sabrina's Abra only utilized Teleport until she made it evolve into Kadabra

Yknow, since ash isnt with misty anymore, i wonder if he'll be able to develop and become a stronger trainer without misty being a jerk to ash.

Also Gyarados is strong, but easy to get early in the games as well. If it's fair in the games, I'd say it's fair for this too, so long as there's a good story behind it

Yeah you start fighting trainers at level 20 just before the 2nd badge, and all kinds of media from anime to games show that there can be a range of powerful - weaker pokemon in an area, so running into say a level 14 with your level 5 mon is a real possibility, litterally always a bigger fish, Onix in this case being it...or the worm/snake I guess / suppose

He was the first one to actually decide what he wanted. He might've been the last to get there, but no one else was going to make a decision. Also, why take Ash's choice, when Gary can let Ash take it, and then pick the Pokemon that would beat it in battle?

I assume a lot of people would. However, one thing I thought I could try and do was give the other Pallet Trainers some actual focus, considering we only know half of the grouping in the original. I figured giving an anime version of Leaf/Green would be an interesting character. Plus without things going like they did in the original, it made sense to me that Misty wouldn't show up like in canon. I will say she's not completely written out of the series, but we'll save that for the future

Did you not pay attention? Pikachu in canon didn't listen to Ash at the start, and Professor Oak didn't really intend to give it to anyone. In this, he decided to prepare 4 Pokemon specifically to give to trainers, so that way he didn't run short and give away the three main ones and have nothing but an unprepared Pikachu for the final person. So he didn't prepare a Charmander, Bulbasaur or Squirtle this time. They would end up being given to the next group of trainers, but are most likely with the breeders who raise them before they're given to Professors
