    I Declare Shenanigames definitely, it is much larger than Ceres and Pluto. It's not a whole lot smaller Mercury. Here is a interesting exercise, I think a moon around Mercury would be unstable after a long period due to the sun.

    To be a binary system, their barycentre would lie in open space, rather than within one of the planets. Pluto and Charon are very close to this situation, but Earth and Moon are nowhere near

    Add a terrestrial planet 2 times the mass of the Earth, about 500 thousand miles further from the Sun than Mars, thus on the perimeter of the habitable zone. See if Mars starts to orbit around it. I don't know if the game has the asteroid belt, but if it does, it would be fun to see it bombarded and possibly orbitted by some objects before it has some surface deformations and then you add atmosphere, water and greenhouse effect to it. Actually it would be cool to see a Super-Earth between Mars and Jupiter, closer to the Mars so the Mars becomes its moon and it gets easier to terraform it. I'd also like to see its effects on the Earth and the Solar system. Guess I'm asking too much, good day :)

    crownedfox if the moon was bigger than the Earth than the earth would orbit it depending on how much bigger. It could be like the Pluto system where they are more of a binary planet than a moon due to the center of gravity being outside of Pluto's body.

  • @Marmocet

    @Marmocet

    7 жыл бұрын

    Tim Titus, _if the moon was bigger than the Earth than the earth would orbit it depending on how much bigger._ It depends on what you mean by _bigger_. A moon could be larger than the earth volumetrically and still be less massive if its density were sufficiently lower. Look at Mercury and Ganymede, for example. Ganymede is ~26% larger than Mercury by volume, but it's only about 45% as massive.

    crownedfox, then it no longer be a moon. It would be a planet. It's gravitational pull could retain a serviceable atmosphere, comets could bring water to eventually form oceans. To be frank,the conditions would have to be just right or it would be a big moon. But it's mass would be so high that it could generate tidal forces that could be dangerous to a planet our size.

    Watching this video, I was given to wonder about something. Could the moon be heated up or even have a sustainable core that would allow the moon to be terraformed? Or have you done a video on that already? Earth becoming a stable binary planet. How would that affect other nearby planets? Good to hear that you're feeling better.

  • @Shenanigames

    @Shenanigames

    7 жыл бұрын

    Ricah I haven't done a video yet!!! You'd have to increase the mass for an atmosphere to be stable

  • @ricahaurymn

    @ricahaurymn

    7 жыл бұрын

    yes, but it would require a magnetic field as well. Unless the planet was encased in a bubble. Increasing mass is one way, but without adding too much mass, as seen in previous terraforming videos, additional mass was acquired by collisions. The moon would have to be close to the mass of Titan to have an atmosphere. The question, can the moon be increased to such a mass that it keeps it's present orbit around earth and become a binary planetary system?

  • @timtitus5002

    @timtitus5002

    7 жыл бұрын

    Ricah like Pluto? The orbit would obviously change if they where binary. Binary habital planets would be very interesting. I think it would be important to run a extended sped up test to see if they remained stable over 10,000 years or so. I guess that would be enough to see if they would be conceivably stable mostly permanently.

  • @ricahaurymn

    @ricahaurymn

    7 жыл бұрын

    That's true. Pluto and Charon are a binary. Charon being only slightly less in mass than earth. Am sure if the moon maintained it's mass or if moon's mass was slightly increased, Earth would have an even greater wobble but also would have an increased elliptical orbit than it has currently. I used to create systems based on random generation and figure out orbits, planetary and satellite. It was done with pen and paper, then create a drawn model. Binary and Trinary systems were my favourite models to create. Attempting to figure out possible decay of orbits was also something else. Although, most orbits required a 0-point to begin orbit and calculate orbital speed based on mass, AU from existing star focus and influence of any satellites. It's really a pendulum of a sort, or reactionary model. Given this circumstance, 10,000 years would not be enough to establish stability. However, determining where the center of mass within a binary on orbital plane would need to be calculated or by random placement. Pluto and Charon are relatively close to each other on the orbital plane. Perhaps increasing the density of the moon could be increased rather than it's mass? I just don't know. Don't have the software, but it is on my wishlist. Until I do I will keep submitting "what if...." in comments.

  • @timtitus5002

    @timtitus5002

    Ricah with a significantly thick atmosphere it might not need a magnetic field. Though I think you where going for habitability. But like Venus it could just be heavy enough or to much to deplet quickly.
