Wow interesting

"KOMM, SUSSER TOD" is so depressing because the Third Impact was rooted in Shinji's nihilistic depression, his desire to die and destroy the world that caused him so much pain. "What If" is joyous and glorious because the Additional Impact is rooted in Gendo's belief that he's going to be re-united with Yui. It's almost an emotional mirror image of Shinji's impact, but they both are alike in their inability to move on from their pain and loneliness.

And this is the part of the film where I broke down in tears. Absolutely adore Evangelion, in both its forms.

The Uncanny Valley from seeing the giant cgi Rei head, the beautiful lyrics with hints of Komm Susser Todd in the back, and the scope of seeing how huge all of this is just amazing.

A lot of people say this song is beautiful and uplifting but whenever I hear it I can only remember the sheer terror of seeing Evangelion Imaginary emerge from the Gates of Hell, expecting it to become the original Lilith resurrected from The End of Evangelion. But instead, it turned into something much more horrifying.

Bru in the english dub, gendo in the anti universe train hears a bang and he says "what's that?" And SHINJI responds in the most calm voice ever "oh, it's Misato". am i the only one that finds that a bit funny

I was overwhelmed with awe and sadness when this played in the movie.

This song moves me emotionally. It's been one year since I've broken up with my ex over feeling like I wasn't good enough for her. In respect I've let someone go for absolutely no good reason and she has moved on. A blunder I'll never forget. And now my mother's been in the hospital for several days recently. My message to you is always love those that you can and cherish cus you'll never know what'll happen.

Man this hits. It’s been years since I broke up with someone I feel similarly about, and while I’ve moved on now and have done my best to make amends with that portion of myself, I still do ask myself “what if?” when I’m at my weakest.

I was (and still am) a huge ReiShin fan, but I'm glad that Shinji got a happy ending with Mari. That piece with long haired Rei is beautiful.

They should've played it at the end of the movie cuz when you hear it makes you feel so many feelings at the same time, bittersweet, empathy and melancholia, oh god it has a perfect culmination magnificent and touches the heart lightly... It's just a masterpiece and the world didn't even realize it, so sad.

Anno really snuck “The Greatest Love of All” into the final Evangelion movie.

悪役(?)が人類を全て消し去ろうとする目前までに迫っている時に流れるbgmとしてはあまりにも美しく、そして正義面しすぎている。

Hideaki Anno made the right call to ask for another version to SAGISU, this one is MUCH better than the possible original, (I consider the TAKAHASHI version the original) it has a perfect culmination feeling, and a glorious one, not a depression train like Komm Susser Todd was, we can see how all those dark years are way behind Hideaki Anno, I'll always see this movie as his way of telling the world: I got better, much better and so can all of you!

But did Takahashi write it? Just asking because what I usually find is that Sagisu is credited and hers as a version of this. If you are right and hers is the original I think at least she deserves the credit to provide the base to something incredible. If she didn’t, then she did what she was asked

This is too much beautiful to call it an ending music. Shiro you peerless genius, always ready to do things beyond the impossible. I can end thinking that Bleach TYBW Finale's ending would sounds like What if rather than 999 (though, the Arrange of the latter as a song by Hazel Fernandes is also too much for me...)
