@@Za_Lup He was at first because he though he couldnt read it but when he actually took a look at it he was shocked that he could actually read it. He could read it because he was the reincarnation of priest Seto but of course Kaiba denied it at the time.

In this scenario, Joey has 2 disadvantages: a god card he can't use; and, even if he could, he doesn't have a way to reliably get 3 monsters on the field to summon said monster. While Kaiba CAN actually read it (he's got ties to ancient egypt) and has a few ways to get to summon gods

TGS Anime actually did a rundown of Atem and Kaiba’s semifinal match. If Kaiba had used Monster Reborn on Obelisk instead of the third Blue Eyes, he could have won with Obelisk’s sacrifice ability, allowing Kaiba to win without any shenanigans xD Atem defeating Kaiba despite using the Gods would be the biggest kick in the nuts for Kaiba xD would probably swear him off of Dueling. 😂

Even if Joey won, Kaiba would probably bomb the whole place just so there werent any witnesses to this. Yugi is one thing, but Joey would NEVER let it go.

To be fair, even if he'd win, Seto would have blown the place up. After all he intended to remove the remnants of his adoptive father.

While Joey can't read the text on Ra, I'd imagine in this scenario that Ra would have no problem obeying him. By this point Joey has: broken free from the Millennium Rod, survived being struck down by Ra during the duel with Odion, and survived Ra AGAIN after being burned by its strongest (phoenix) form. And if that sounds too crazy, in GX Season 2 Ra was apparently helpless and needed Jaden's help, and once Jaden got control of Ra, it obeyed him.

Even at the end of the series Atem after everything he went through still has to use the chant to summon Ra but Joey is going to get a free pass lol.

@@RedTheWeeb Well there’s a couple reasons could explain why. First and foremost, it was only a copy of Ra, from what we’ve seen in the series, the copies doesn’t necessarily have to have the chant. When Odion summoned Ra, he also used a copy and didn’t need the chant, unfortunately for Odion, he was also a couple feet away from the real Ra who immediately proceeded to attack both Odion and Joey. So option 1, we could say that Ra copies can be used without the chant as long as they aren’t near the original/real version of the card. And potential second reason, Ra (at least in the anime) has already been put to rest with the pharaoh and the other two Egyptian god cards, maybe them being put to rest affects the need to have the Egyptian chant. Both are pretty much headcanon but had some type of canon basis for why Ra didn’t attack Jaden but could still attack Joey at any time.

Might as well cut the video short then because while we saw proof Joey could've defeated Marik, there's no proof Kaiba could've defeated Yugi. There's no what if for that one. Guess that part is just headcanon for Kaiba fans hoping he could actually beat his rival for once.

I personnaly would have Kaiba beating Atem fair and square in semis. Here's how you get to it : • Yami Marik vanishes after his duel with Joey, he is ashamed to have lost to Joey and lowers his guard/willpower/whatever so the shadows take him. • There are no more real stakes, so the Millenium Puzzle luck boost is greatly reduced. • Atem bricks pretty hard while Kaiba doesn't have a perfect hand but still has plays. Would also make for a more realistic duel.

I have two ideas for this series: What if the duel between Yugi and Yami ended in a draw? What if Yusei actually lost against Antinomy in their first duel?

Yusei losing to Antinomy in that initial duel would honestly have changed nothing in the plot and it's a duel that he honestly SHOULD have lost simply because it would have worked better for the narrative. "Yusei, you must learn to Accel Synchro like me." Then Yusei wins without using Accel Synchro.

In the anime, Seto Kaiba and Joey did duel, and Seto won. I honestly don't think that in a scenario where Joey and Seto fight in the battle city finals that Joey wins, especially when Seto has two Egyptian gods that he can use, while Joey can't use Ra. Seto Kaiba ultimately wins in this unlikely scenario.

That woukd have been cool i rrally wish there was a red eyes snd blue eyes fusion monster Maybe somthing like purple eyes gray dragon or somthing like that that would be awsome

The Battle Royale is still one of my favorite YGO! duels.

I honestly still would have Joey lose to Kaiba via Blue Eyes. But I think a highlight moment would be Joey somehow still using Ra Sphere mode to his advantage and then find a way to cheat out Ra without the ancient chant. Only for Kaiba to still defeat him and claim Ra for himself while acknowledging Wheeler’s growth as a duelist.

An interesting look of a what-if. Speaking of what-if's in Battle City, how about a what-if of Mai winning against Marik? After seeing TGSAnime's vid of said Duel, it was definitely possible that Mai could've won that Duel, and I'm wondering how the story would change from there.😊

If both Yami and Joey manage to bring down a combination of Obelisk and Osiris without any (usable) god cards, that would make little Yugi's final victory in the ceremonial battle against all three much less impressive, although a lot more believable. I'm still hesitant whether it would be a change for the worse or the better.

I think that in the event of Kaiba and Yugi having a rematch with this scenario of Kaiba holding the Egyptian Gods, he would take them out of his deck or at least only use Obelisk in the duel, so that the runback match isn't predicated on him having cards that he didn't win cleanly. One very involved "what if" I have is one that actually changes the entire series. "What if Akaba Leo was smart?" That is to say, his goal of stopping Zarc from reviving by not letting the four Yu-boys merge together. He knows that Yuuri is one of them. What if, instead of training Yuuri to duel and sending him to other dimensions such that he is all but guaranteed to meet his other counterparts, Leo... Did literally anything else? Ideally he simply has Yuuri killed, which means that the entire driving force of the plot is negated before the first episode.

Damn, Dyl. I got goosebumps. Amazing idea and amazing video. And we even got two (three) what if duels for the price of one. Really, really good stuff.

I would have Joey duel Kaiba, Kaiba does not use Crush Card like he did in their original third place duel, and Joey gets to use his stronger monsters in this duel. Joey manages to actually defeat Kaiba, who is in complete shock that he lost to him, and actually acknowledges him more as a duelist like he originally did after he passed out in the original story arc that we got. Joey gives the three Egyptian Gods to Yugi, and Joey becomes the Duel King. Then seasons 4 and 5 both play out the same way that they do, all the way up to the end of the show. That is what I would have done, or changed for this arc.

Problem. in this scenario Kaiba would have 2 of the god cards and per battle city's rules he would only have to give up one in the event he loses. There's no scenario in which Joey would get both of Kaiba's God cards.

@@dustinvance243 Well, maybe. But they are both extremely rare cards. And also, it is possible that a losing player may have to give up more than one rare card if they lose, depending on their rarity. Remember, Joey got two cards from Mako when he defeated him.

Also, imagine if Joey used Kaiba's own Crush Card against him, like Pegasus did, with Graverobber's effect, and destroy his deck like that. Kaiba would be screwed, and it would be hilarious.

​@michaelcozzi3167 I highly doubt they would reuse that particular method of neutering CCV, just because they managed to find so many other ways of doing it over the course of the show (seriously, not _once_ does it actually accomplish the goal of ending the game the way it's intended to when Kaiba draws it) that it's unnecessary. As for the end of the duel . . . I personally would want to see Joey manage to get Kaiba to his last few hundred LP before losing, only for Kaiba to acknowledge Joey's abilities as a Duelist and that Joey did deserve to be in Battle City after all. Maybe it's a bit fanfiction-y, but showing Joey's growth as a Duelist matched by Kaiba's growth as a person would've been a great way to end this version of the story.

Great "What-if" scenario! The only part I would disagree on is that I believe Kaiba could use the Winged Dragon of Ra. In the anime Kaiba was shocked to realize that he was able to read Egyptian text on Ra when it appeared during the duel with Mai. The fact that he could read it tells me he would be able to remove it from it's Sphere Mode. Also, his computers analyzed the card and told him it had abilities that weren't printed on the card. It is his knowledge of the card that causes him to deduce Ra's weakness is the user's life points which is why he had Fiend's Sanctuary to defeat it (ultimately giving the card to Yugi as a sign of good faith and mutual respect for his rival). I still do think Yugi would have found a way to beat him either way so the conclusion doesn't change

My only change up with the Kaiba and Yugi duel is let’s mix it up by having Yugi manage to swipe obelisk and force Kaiba to make do with slifer. It forces them to play a little different to what they’re accustomed and it gives a nice inverse to the battle city final

What if aki somehow won the tournament in 5ds? Would we have seen the group divine runs gain traction while yusei and jack are injured.

Set up a fake situation where the cult save people from the duel police which while satellite is being terrorized yusei goes over there and jack follows to which divine is left free until aki gets attacked. I kinda wonder how a duel between Marik and Kaiba would have gone, actually. They never duelled.

If Joey had won the shadow game against Marik, Marik would have died, and I'm not just talking the dark split personality, I mean the good Marik as well. That was the penalty game, IIRC. (Which wasn't applied in the original duel because Joey "died" before the game could finish) No good Marik means no secret of the gravekeeper is passed to Yugi, so Atem never learns about his past or his true name and he stays trapped in the Puzzle forever.

Hear me out on this… I have a theory that kazuki originally intended for joey(the audience insert character) to defeat marik in their duel, then yugi beats kaiba, and it’s yugi, vs joey in the finals for joeys red eyes. To which Joey would in fact win! Thus declaring the audience insert character as game king.

I always liked the idea of Joey beating Marik and getting his rematch against Yugi in the finals, but I honestly like this idea better. Not only would it allow us to still get the Yugi VS Marik duel, but I'd wager it would be even better as I personally always felt like Marik's over-reliance of Ra in the official duel to be a bit annoying/boring. Seeing Marik's unique and twisted monsters in tandem with the special shadow game rules were always my favorite parts of his duels. This is why I ultimately like his duel against Joey more than against Atem, as we got to see a lot more from him with Ra just being the grand finale.

I think the duel between Kaiba and Joey ending with Kaiba unexpectedly summoning Ra. In my head I think Joey defeats Obelisk figuratively overcoming Kaiba as that was Kaibas god card. The duel continues and Joey is backed into a corner facing off against Blue eyes ultimate dragon. His only monster card is the Winged Dragon of Ra. He draws a card and it’s a card that lets him switch a card in his hand for a random one from Kaibas. He switches the winged dragon of Ra and as Joeys Luck would have it he gets slyfer. He has scape goats and is able to summon it. He thinks it’s in the bag because now he has a god card and Kaiba just has one that no one but Marik can use. But final turn of the duel, Kaiba defuses his ultimate dragon and sacrifices his 3 dragons to bring out Ra for game.

A good way to have the Yugi Kaiba rematch is to have the rematch in the KC grand prix with Yugi entering as a regular contestant and Kaiba taking Yugi's canon position where he's the opponent of the tournament winner for the title match.

Here's another idea: What if Odion won against Joey (where Odion stood up first after he and Joey were struck by lightning after summoning the fake Ra and never fell into a coma), making Yami Marik never manifest? Odion would then be exposed for the fake Ra by Kaiba and was disqualified, making Joey still advance to the semifinals. Which would then be followed with... how do you think the normal Marik would fight against Mai? How do you think the tournament would go on afterwards? (Maybe Joey vs Mai for the semis, and the winner will face the winner between Yugi vs Kaiba)

I honestly really wanted to see a Blue Angel vs Gore duel

Here's a what if that might work what if Pegasus sent Kaiba Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon in the waking the dragons arc while this would throw the pyramid of light movie out of the way the fact he gets it at the start and has it for the remainder of the anime

While I see Kaiba defeating Joey, I can also see Joey also backing Kaiba to a corner before Joey loses. I had rewatch the original Yugioh anime and I seen many instances where Kaiba or Yugi could had lost the duel, but the writers gave them a win anyway.

My thing would be if Joey did have Ra and realize he couldn’t play it, he’d have no reason to put it in his deck. Meaning the ante rule can’t apply since Ra is not in his deck.

I’d love to see one like “what if Ray was the villain and zarc was the hero who defeated her and split the dimensions”

Let's run it back with Battle City, Yugi vs Joey in the finale

It’d be cool to see a what if scenario where Mai defeats Marik and she and Joey have a rematch in the battle city semi finals.

I actually like the idea of Yugi and Marik dueling without the use of the Egyptian God cards! Yeah, it wouldn't be as flashy as the original, but it would be a better test of skill for both players and who would have the better strategy!

Dude I actually love this. I think Kaiba needs one Iconic win vs. Yugi fully legit, so would have made this it. Then Yugi wins the cards back. This may be really unpopular, but in the ceremonial duel, I always wished the Kaiba beat Yami Yugi, a metaphor of how in ancient Egypt Yami Yugi gave the throne to Kaiba's counterpart. Would have been good symbology.

The only thing I would change about this hypothetical is that Kaiba would actually return Slifer to Yugi because he feels like he didn't truly win it from him. Raa would be an additional prize for winning the duel, so winner takes all the god cards.

Actually, I love this idea! This would almost be like the Season 0 duel of Blue Eyes vs. Red Eyes! Yugi would give Joey the Red Eyes back before he duels Kaiba, allowing for this matchup!

Absolutely love the idea of this series! Big fan of your videos and your storytelling process, so I'm looking forward to future videos of this premise! As far as other what ifs, one that comes to mind would be "What if Yami Yugi Won against Rafael" I'd like to see how that would weigh on him, having used the Seal to defeat him, and essentially feeling like maybe he proved Rafael right?

I wonder if in this scenario Kaiba and Yugi duel in the Kaiba Corp Grand Prix since that fits in the timline set for the events here. Kaiba more willing to compete this time just so he can duel Atem. Either Yugi/Atem would also be in the tournament from the start . still being the prize match, or probably most likely, Kaiba as the champion here becomes the prize match, invites Yugi/Atem to compete, and puts the god cards up as an ante for the winner of the tournament if they beat him. Which Atem ultimately would, and then Yugi would mirror Atem's accomplishment, and surpass it by beating the three gods without any of them them as Atem would have done in this scenario.

Well theoretically, after Defusion split Kaiba's Ultimate dragon to the original three Blue Eyes, He could still attack to Yugi's Red Eyes which is in attack position, reducing Yugi's LP to 900, thus preventing him from activating Defusion wave motion. Also, this would reduce Dark Paladin's attack to 4400 and Yugi wouldn't be able to deal the fatal blow on Kaiba. Now, if Kaiba hadn't used Magical trick mirror and had protected his Lord of D. using another card instead, he could take advantage of it, to use Yugi's defusion and with the power of absorb spell deal a good 1600 to Yugii's LP by destroying Red Eyes and Dark magician and win the duel. And although Yugi controls a Buster Blader with who knows how much attack since all of Kaiba's dragon Types are in the graveyard fuelling Buster blader, Yugi would simply wouldn't live to see the next turn and use it to attack Kaiba.

Amazing idea Dylan. It would be interesting if that happen in Duel Monsters.

I would imagine that joey would give Ra to yugi in return for throwing the match to save his life and the others. So during the yugi vs marick duel yugi would summon ra, and marick would destroy ra then bring it back with monster reborn and then fuse with ra

It depends upon how much time is giving 1. Joey How much Yami Yugi , Tea, Tristan & Sister is listening and can give advice for the chant 2. How Both will build his Deck Kaiba Blue Eyes, Obleisk, Silfer. Joey Has insect Queen Legendary Fisherman, Jinzo Plus wing Dragon of Ra with the millenium Staff attack succeded although he fainted.

Loved the what if. Another scenario I would’ve loved to see is yugi vs Joey as it could be the duel Joey proves himself and earns red-eyes back since we never saw it on screen. I could see it playing out as either yugi’s win he gets ra, then hands Joey red-eyes cause let’s say he managed to actually kill obelisk and slifer showing his skill or Joey wins an yugi goes to give him O or S but he says he only wants redeyes then later he hands off ra as he realizes he couldn’t use it

I feel like in a situation where Joey wins vs Marik he should earn the ability to use ra. He won it far and square in a shadow game. I feel the spirit of ra would thus recognize his worthiness.

There’s a ton of great potential with what if scenarios for incredibly interesting events to play our Some that came to my mind would probably have to be - What If Team 5ds lost against team unicorn aka what if Jean ENDED HIS DAMN TURN - What if Yuto and Yuya didn’t become one and yuto was around as himself - what if Yuya and yugo became one instead of yuya and yuto - What if Ai won instead of playmaker at the end of Vrains - What if Luke got sent back to the go rush timeline instead of or alongside Yuga

If team unicorn won, you would expect a rematch. Team unicorn being taken out by team catastrophe would be very unsatisfying. Even if they weren't taken out. I wouldn't really switch any wrgp duels we saw with a rematch.

5:05 given Kaiba wants to legitimately beat Yugi, he’d probably DQ Marik for his interference, especially because by tournament rules, Joey has Ra now, so he doesn’t really care about Marik anymore. As a side note, TGS Anime covered Yugi and Kaiba’s battle city duel, and its many misplays by both sides, so Kaiba winning legitimately is possible.

Kaiba with a legitimate win over Yugi shortly followed by a legitimate loss to Joey would truly be the ideal fairytale ending.

If Joey had held out or in the first step it would not have been a shadow duel and he would have won the duel against Marik, Yugi's duel against Kaiba would have been very different. Since it would no longer have been about "fate" to fulfill something but about pure skills. Seto Kaiba would have won safely under normal conditions and so he would have ended up in the final with Joey. And even if Joey could use RA, which he can't do by reading the text anyway, but even if. Joey wanted to defeat Marik for May and that significantly improved his skills. But when it comes to pure fame at Joey, he is only a 3rd classic duelant (see Grand Championship) and whether he can use RA or not. He would never have defeated Kaiba with two gods cards. And so Kaiba would have been king of the games because he has the best skills when the whole mystical does not matter.

This duel can only end in 1 way Kaiba beating Joey with mid diff. Similar to how he beat him in the runner up duel but in this scenario Kaiba would have both Obelisk and Slifer with Joey having Ra but unable to summon it. Only one winner here and its not close

I wonder if Kaiba would have another flashback since he can read the text on the Winged Dragon of Ra. I think his decision there would decide the duel, him losing if he denies his past. I’d like to see a what if Syrus defeated Zane during the GX tournament? Would it have been enough to snap Zane back to his senses or would he have to go on a slightly different arc to understand why he lost to his little brother that he still looked down on at the time.

Regarding Joey and Ra wouldn’t Ishizu be able to teach Joey to read the text? I know they wouldn’t have a lot of time to work with and this is Joey we’re taking about so his pronunciation would’t be perfect but maybe he could still summon it in that case

10:33 but…Kaiba can? He got the ability to read Ra either immediately after his victory over Ishizu, or after his defeat to Yugi? I can’t remember which, but it was shown. So he’d be able to wield all 3 god cards

Kaiba always had the ability. The manga shows that he could read the tablet of memories and saw it was a eulogy written by Priest Seto

I mean, what if Joey doesn't Loose to Kaiba? I mean yeah, he will ASSUME he can't use Ra the normal way, via tribute summon. But at any point did Yami Marik have to speak Ra's other effects when calling it from the graveyard? If not, Joey has that option, same as Marik. Also, Kaiba would want to style on Joey since he feels cheated out of the finals being a "Real Duelist", though he does acknowledge Joey as at least being "Competent" for having Ra at all in the finals. Kaiba's aim would be to duel and get Ra from Joey, same as Kaiba was looking to take Slifer from Yugi during their duel. Joey, having the idea that Kaiba would want that, would see the same combo Kaiba used to get Ra into Joey's hand, then go for the steal, but Joey would have Grave robber set-up, allowing Joey to get Obelisk to Kaiba's hand, and steal that, allowing Joey to get a God card he COULD use, over one he couldn't. And knowing Ra's power, he'd assume eventually, Kaiba would send it to the grave, thus it'd be whoever got to Monster Reborn first that would use Ra to swing for Game. From there, the duel would be Joey skillfully subverting Kaiba's tactics with wild gambles and surprising uses of the God cards both as Bait and as weapons. This culminating in Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon attacking Joey for game, only for Joey to summon Slifer from the grave in Defense mode, with Sixth Sense going off, making Kaiba loose the last of his life points in a charge directly into the boosted god. Best way to end the duel, with Joey Only being able to take Slifer, and Kaiba steaming so bad!! At least, outside of the "Third Place duel", I could see Kaiba falling into arrogance dueling Joey unless his Pride was Broken beforehand.

I don’t think you realize how integral Ra was in Mariks plan to defeat the pharaoh considering Ra was the endgame in that entire duel, this what if match up wouldn’t have that high a stakes, it is also revealed tha Kaiba is able to read the text on Ras card so he would be able to use it, saying that he wouldn’t be able to use it and not give an explanation is a pretty big mistake bro.

2:04 - who he shouldn't have even been playing against, but Mai gets _ZERO_ credit in-universe (and not much of bugger-all out-of-universe) for her duel against Marik. 5:40 - so, he gets a second Insect Queen? Seriously, every card Joey wins is either useless (Insect Queen only has one other Insect in his deck to Tribute, and Legendary Fisherman is a Tribute monster irl/in the anime) or actively hurts his strategy (Jinzo negates a lot of his non-monster cards), so what's one more Garnet at this point?

I think when it comes to a yugioh what if the poster child is always going to be what if Joey beat Merck. The reason is simple we all know he was the rightful winner of the duel and it has potential for massive ramifications for the following season and a half. Like what if radios turned good for dragon ball what ifs, and what if ash woke up on time for Pokémon what ifs this one has potential for a lot

Joey came close to beating kaiba after the tournament, and that's with him using only weak monsters cause of kaibas crush cards

It was rare till yuga came in and loss leaving luke to have the what ifs actually happen

If this happened in the Manga (aka skipping season4), I feel like it would be interesting if Yami Bakura tricked Kaiba into coming to Egypt and make him be a part of the final shadow game. Where Kaiba becomes Priest Seto and the two have to put their rivalry aside to stop Zorc.

Who is to say Joey can't use Ra? Yugi could just teach him the Chant. And Ra would likely respect Joey's strength since he could beat Marik.

The only issue with Marik not having Ra is kind of an issue. His deck is basically a Ra turbo deck so he'd have to come up with a whole new win condition Also, it changes the vibe for the Egypt ark- the focus of their duel should be Yugi getting the Egyptian God cards back

If Kaiba can read the ancient text on Ra, why wouldn't he be able to use it?

What if Joey got sick before Duelist Kingdom and Tea decided to take Joey's place to help win the prize money?

Would thought the best way to do this what if would be to have had kaiba and Joey lose the battle royale that choose the final matches. It could then lead to a scenario where it's yugi vs Joey in the finals and could be the duel where Joey wins back red eyes. Not that the way this video played out is bad,just feels more complicated then it needed to be to get the matches to line up the way they needed too.

At the end of the video you said that Kaiba can't use Ra, but they say in the anime that he can read the text and would therefore be able to summon ra

For this matchup, saying that Joey cant use Ra because he wouldn't know the chant is foolish, he witnessed Mai's defeat in which Marik used the chant so Joey would know it and could use Ra.
