Wow! You have an amazing collection. Not so long ago, I thought that I should pare down my own collection. My historical dolls are very seldom used in pictures and I keep them in their meet outfits. But as I looked over the group, I couldn't decide who I would be willing to let go of. So I did what any doll loving person would do.......I bought another one......lol

I have 20 Dolls, so 1/5 of my collection would be 5 dolls. I'm thinking... 1. Kit, she was my fave as a child so we had a LOT of bonding time. 2. Jess, her hair is so fun to play with, plus she's definitely my comfort doll. 3. Melody, she both has my fave fashion era & can rock a modern look. 4. Kaya, my grandparents used her as a bridge to teach me about my indigenous heritage and our own tribe's history & traditions - special memories. 5. JLY #13, she's my 1st doll. I mean, the nostalgic memory of receiving her as a total surprise as a kid is enough to make me never let go of her, lol!

I really enjoyed this! I love the dolls you picked. My list would include Evette like Grace’s did. I have over 100 AG dolls and when people ask which one is my favorite, I usually say, “they are like my children and I don’t have a favorite” or I say “whichever doll is in my hand at the moment”. I feel the same way about Addy and Kaya that you do. I would never mess with their hair, so unfortunately they tend to receive less attention even though they are both beautiful. My Josefina and Marie Grace are the same way. I think I’m going to do this just for fun.

I’ve been thinking about this lately too! I definitely couldn’t pare down to just 20%, since I only have eleven dolls, but I think I could narrow down to 5 no matter how large my collection ever gets: 3 of my original 4 dolls (Samantha, Kirsten, and my JLM) plus Jess who was the first doll I ever saw and always loved, and Claudie, my first doll as an adult collector (and one of my fav historicals)!

I have ten dolls- so if i were to pick a top fifth of my collection it’d be 2 dolls! absolutely insane & i could never i need all of them😭 if i had to, i’d pick ruthie smithens for her connection to my grandma and nicki hoffman for being my first doll i got brand new in my adult collection. so i guess i’d narrow it down by pretty sentimental reasoning hahaha

Eek! I couldn’t get rid of 4/5 of my dolls. Maybe I could narrow it down to 20 as I have around 40-45 dolls.

I have roughly 50 dolls, probably between 50 and 60 now. Honestly it’s a stretch going down to 20, but I’ve thought about it hypothetically. My problem is that I’m nostalgically attached to many of the original classic molds even though it’s not a favorite mold now. In no particular order, my list would probably go something like this. 1. Kit: my second childhood doll and my favorite historical hands down 2. Rebecca: not sure she’d stay her historical character in this hypothetical downsizing, but she’s the doll who looks like me. 3. Melody: my dream historical for many years before she finally came out; she’s so cute, too! 4. Lea: she’s gorgeous and is my favorite GOTY 5. Hollis (red hair, brown eyes, MG custom): unique and one of my favorite customs 6. Angelina (medium toned Jess mold with dark eyes and hair CYO): my first CYO and a dream doll for many years 7. Gabrielle (#31): one of my favorite Addy molds 8. Kiran (#62): one of my favorite Sonali molds 9. Molly: first doll ever and so I’d probably cry if I had to part with her, lots of childhood attachment there 10. and 11. Nicki and Isabel Hoffman: they are just about my age. These dolls make my millennial heart happy! 12 and 13. My identical twin #25s Sophie and Juliette: I’m very attached to the characters I created for them. 14. Ivy, probably: She’s just so cute and unique. Would be between her and #40, though. 15. Aimee: my #4 with a haircut. She would probably be the only doll I’d keep if I had to go down to one. I’m not immune to the #4 hype, and she was a special surprise gift from a friend. 16. Mia: I sold her before and had to rebuy her. I missed her a lot. She has a special place in my collection. 17. Logan: I like him! He’s cute, and I’d want to keep a boy doll. 18. Tenney: I’ve renamed her, but I really like her coloring. She’s a very pretty doll and so versatile. 19. Evette: also pretty and her hair sets her apart, she’s very unique 20. Samantha: Not sure I could see myself without the most iconic historical doll, in my opinion

I loved reading your choices and REALLY enjoyed reading about your reasoning for each of them. Do you dress your Mia in blue much? I've been struck lately by how great she looks in blues. And I agree that Tenney is beautiful. We've had her a few times and sold her a few times. I'm not a Tenney hater *at all* but as I said, space is a finite commodity so we can't have every beautiful doll unfortunately.

ah, so good! You have such beautiful dolls, I can see why it was so hard for you and Grace to narrow them down. I would also have a super hard time picking out only 1/5 of my AG dolls (I have about 40). The majority of mine are second hand fixer uppers, and I've gotten super attached to them because of that, especially the ones that needed extra TLC. I could never part with Saige, who single-handedly ignited this AG passion 😄 Lea and Grace Thomas were my 2nd and 3rd AG dolls, (purchased on Mercari in excellent used condition) and mine are exceptionally pretty (to me) so they stay, too. I love my 2nd hand Gabriella, and couldn't part with her, nor the other Gaby that I customized with new eyes (Zara). I dislike eye swapping and since I scarred Melia (a Melody base) while doing that I don't think she would be easily adopted out - so she stays. As does Georgia, my other eye swap that used to be Addy. Of my purchased new directly from AG dolls, I would immediately choose Evette, #58 (Ruby), Nanea, Claudie and Anniversary Kit. I'd also have to keep 2nd hand Addy, Molly, Melody and Julie as I have so many of their pieces, plus I love their stories and collections. Oh, heck, I love them all, haha!

Also, the ones I had picked out for your list, prior to watching: Nora, Violet, Joss, Tai, Lina, a Claudie, a Shimmering... silver one, Journey, Sidney, Luca, your other, customized mini, Gianna, your Addy mold boy doll whose name I keep blanking on, Dani, Maddie, Gabriella. So some right, some wrong, and didn't come up with a full 20 because there were too many to choose from!

Yes! Lea is SO pretty and it's really nice that we can change up Alice's wig so when we want more redheads she can be one (but she looks good in almost every wig)

I've given this some extensive thought and even used a bias sorter for my own dolls! I have 18 dolls, but I decided that if there really was a situation in which I had to only keep a few, I'd have to keep all 5 of my childhood dolls, purely for sentimental reasons; they are "my" dolls. I could more easily replace the rest because I got them as an adult and don't have hours and hours of playtime and memories and adventures with them! My childhood dolls are Danielle (JLY 23), Jess, Emily, Nicki (GOTY 2007), and Julie. However, taking everything into consideration (sentimentality, the doll overall, her collection, books, movie, etc.), the 20% I would save (rounded up to 4 out of 18) would be Rapunzel, Danielle, Isabel, and Evette, with Kit as a close 5th! This is one of my favorite videos you've ever done because I love making lists and rankings like this! 😄

Thanks for doing the mental exercise along with me - and YES - making lists and analyzing is how my brain works. I am never good at ranking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. but tier ranking or "top 20/bottom 20", etc is totally doable!

This was fun and I love the dolls you chose for your top 20. I have 14 dolls (which some seem to think is “too many.”) so 1/5 of my collection is roughly only three. Haha. For sure I would pick the American Girl of Today 13 I got for Christmas in ‘95 and then Kirsten. As for the third one…I have no idea. I just recently got Claudie and several of her outfits so it might be her. I just don’t know. Might be easier to choose half of my collection 😂

This was wonderful! Loved all of the different approaches you took, as well as asking Grace and comparing who you chose. Rosalie is super cute, but there was another Sonali CYO I was thinking of, so I had to go back and watch your All My Dolls CYO video to figure it out. First, I thought it was Piper, but then I realized it was James, mostly for her freckles and dark blue eyes. She also has really good eye placement. Oh, James IS beautiful. Grace got her at the benefit sale the same year I got Rosalie there. Such fun memories of us both being on the couches on our respective laptops on a MISSION to get the CYOs we wanted as fast as humanly possible lol.

I only *just* bought an AG doll as an adult collector -- a Molly that was in terrible shape, and frankly overpriced, despite being cheap, but I really fell in love with the look of that particular doll. So, right now, I have one doll. I had AG dolls as a kid, and a relative of mine may or may not still have one or more of mine from when I was a child -- which is something I plan to ask about soon. I don't remember exactly how or why I fell down the AGtube, AG website, Ebay, and customs rabbit hole in the last month or two, but I did. So, I've spent a lot of the last few weeks coming up with what I would consider my ideal collection, and came up with 33 dolls. Mostly historical dolls partially because they were all that existed for most of my childhood, and partially because I'm mostly generally more interested in dolls with backstories and historical-ish clothes. I don't know if I'll ever actually wind up with all of them, and honestly, I'll probably whittle my list down even more over time. My plan is to go slowly, and to mostly buy both dolls and clothes used and cheaply. The exceptions will be BIPOC and Boy dolls, to encourage AG to make more of them, except for Addy and Josefina, which I want older versions of (I want older versions of the other Pleasant Company and transition to Mattel dolls, too). One fifth of the hypothetical/future 33 would be between 6 and 7 dolls, so to make it easier on myself, I'll go with 7. It's also contingent on how many, if any, of my childhood dolls a relative has. If it's all of them, that's pretty easy. 1. Samantha 2. Kirsten 3. GT3 -- my childhood mini me (which were my original dolls) 4. Felicity 5. Addy (which originally both belonged to my grandmother, who was a doll collector, but which she later gave to me) 6. The Molly doll I just bought 7. A CYO adult mini me. If none of them are in storage: 1. Samantha (my first and favorite childhood AG doll) 2. Nellie, who didn't exist as a doll when I was a kid, because she's Samantha's best friend and also because my family is mostly Irish-American 3. A custom teenage mini me 4. A CYO adult mini me 5. Molly (again, the one I just bought) 5. Claudie 6. Julie Claudie and Julie would be because they and Samantha have my favorite clothes collections, I think Claudie is one of the prettiest AG dolls, and Julie is from one of my favorite eras. 7.Josefina. She's the last AG doll I wanted before I grew out of them, and now that I have a Molly doll, she's also the last of the pre-Mattel dolls/characters that I've never had (my Molly was made after Mattel took over, though). She also has gorgeous clothes in her pre-BeForever iteration.

I only have 12 dolls, so I'm taking them all! This reinforced for me what I knew about my Barbie and other doll collecting, which is that variety in face molds is the first thing I look at. In just over a year of collecting, I have at least one of most of the face molds, and I would generally get rid of duplicate molds on different dolls before I would get rid of a doll with a unique mold to my collection. Also, I would probably have a harder time getting rid of a doll who is a character with a story than a TM doll, even if I slightly preferred the numbered one.

So out of my 15 dolls, I'd only be able to pick 3. As much as I'd love to keep my childhood Samantha and Felicity they have seen better days and would prefer my newer dolls. So, I'd probably pick Lea, Evette, and Joss....ugh it's so hard when your collection is small 😂 I would keep Kavi and Nanea too. 5 seems better than 3 lol.

Wow! This is such a fun video. I've often thought of which dolls I would always keep no matter what. My collection is currently at 24, so we'll round to 25 and say I get to keep 5. 1. Sandy, my JLY 13. She was my first doll, mini me, and I could never part with her. 2. Josefina. She was a gift from my mom for my birthday last year and she's absolutely perfect, PC, silky hair, just amazing. 3. Kit, she just feels so nostalgic even though I just bought her last year. Her collection is also a favorite of mine. 4. Mia, I had one that I gave to my best friend and eventually realized I needed a Mia in my collection so I got a new one! She's so gorgeous. 5. Maddie, my truly me 89. Somehow she has become a comfort doll to me, her personality is so flushed out and I just adore her. Oof that was hard! I feel so bad for all the ones I left out 😭😭😭 especially my 31! She would probably be my 6th if I had one more to keep. Thank goodness I can keep all 24, right? 😂

Oof, this is trifficult! You’re going to get long answers because that’s the way I operate 😂 I get to pick 8/40ish: Samantha & Emily Kathryn (12)- my childhood dolls Genevieve (Evette) and Willow (44) because I’ve really bonded with them and their sweet faces and amazing curls Gabriela- she was my first doll that I purchased as an adult in really good condition so I kept her in a box in my closet away from my kids, who had access to my more TLC dolls. I took her out every so often when I was getting dressed or cleaning my bedroom and she ended up actually getting a lot of one-on-one time! Saige- I really wish I could take her twin, Shea (Saige with a haircut) and their sister, Hazel (brown eyes, freckles, boing-boing curls in a similar color). I’ve bonded with all three of them- they got to ride in the front seat with me when we moved! Maeve (Mia)- she’s so pretty and I love her unique freckle pattern. I also wish I could take her sister, Annabelle (33) Matilda- this is a very TLC Grace doll with an uneven haircut, but she has become Matilda (as played by Mara Wilson in 1996) to me and my kiddos and, though she really does deserve some fixing up, she has a very special place in my heart. ❤

I have only 5 dolls at the moment, it would be so hard to choose just one...Probably either my pleasant company bitty baby for sentimental value, or my 121/mini me since I can do more with the doll (more outfits, do things with the hair, etc) whereas my other dolls stay in the same few outfits/hairstyles. I love them all so much though!

I don't know your full 100 enough to have made any decisions for your collection, but a lot of the ones I know you have that I was thinking about are on the list you decided on so I think that's awesome!! Of the 17 dolls I have right now - 1/5th would be between 3-4 dolls, so I'm going to say 4. I would pick Zoe (my mini) hands down, no contest, my Samantha who is not the greatest condition but my original AG doll, my 122 Carmen because she was the first brand new doll I got as an adult and my husband picked her out for me - we physically picked the particular doll in store together but he encouraged and bought my 122. And then it's a 3 way tie for 4th, Winnie (35) because she's had a face up, Reese (26) because she was hard to find and has just the sweetest face, or Della (40) because she was the first video on my channel!

I used the bias sorter for just my modern dolls. I have 35 and I made it so I had to pick one or the other each time, no using the ‘I like both’ or ‘no opinion’ options. My top 7 were not bad. I might change a couple out, but it would be so hard! I did it again with the ‘I like both’ option and I had 31 number 1’s😂

It's from Maplelea in Canada and a portion of the proceeds from sales of that shirt are donated.

I've asked myself recently, if I had to choose one from my dollies, who that one would be? And I failed to make a choice. Well, I know whom I like the least, yet I can not rid from her either. Now, when I've watched your video I think I just don't have enough to chose from. There are only 6 in my collection and each of them is precious. On the other hand, my dd has only 2 in hers but knows for sure who is the one she will never let go. 😁 Anyway, thank you for this video, it was fun to watch and learn more about your collection and you. ❤

Wow! Who did you keep, and why?

Wow. I’ve maybe put too much effort into this but I think I might have a list now. 1/5 of my AG collection is about 30 dolls. The way I came up with my list was I ran them all (except the le Barbie doll) through the bias sorter 3 times and calculated their average. I could not come up with only 30 without the sorter. I was a little surprised by a few who made it into the top 30. I’d say that while still difficult, it would be easier to come up with 30 dolls to part with from my 18” AG girlies. Anyway, here goes… My custom 31 Memphis, my cyo Velma-Kate that I made to resemble my grandmother as a child, Claudie, 127, 128, my custom with a wavy black bob (Vesper), my custom 110 Lennox, my custom Reese, 123 (Micaela), my custom 30 Lennon, Tiana, Kit, my custom red head Shelby, Melody, 107, 103 (Jolene), 121 (Lucy), 49, Nanea, my 1st custom with a red pixie cut Gemma Rose, 77 (Kingston), Maryellen, shimmering silver le doll, Lea, 124, 58 (Chenille), 75 (Kip), 76 (Miguel), Fao schwarz doll (Marta), and 62. I found it much easier to come up with 1/5 I’d keep from my daughter’s old collection that was annexed into mine. I would keep 55 (Charlotte), Saige, Mia, 57, and Julie. I was a little surprised that 26, 40, 85, 112, 122, Blaire, Joss, Ivy, my custom Melody Giselle, and my custom Joss Magnolia didn’t make the list. 123, Tiana, Gemma Rose, 49 and 124 were the slight surprises that did. While Courtney is one of my top favorite historical dolls, I think a lot of that is based on her collection rather than the doll herself. So because of this, I’m not surprised she didn’t make the cut. P.S. I love the dolls you and Grace chose.

@@agtakesover haha. Thanks. I actually ended up running the dolls through the bias sorter by doll line too. It was much easier choosing between similar dolls. I wasn’t the least bit surprised at who made the top of the historical list - Kit, Maryellen, Melody, Claudie, Nanea and Ivy.

Top 20 would be hard for me because I would need to go between historical, girl of the year and truly me dolls. The only easy part would be to start with eliminating all my repeats I can get it down to 11Historical, the the 3 world by us, 8 Girl of the year and 9 Truly me dolls for a grand total of 32 dolls. This was an interesting exercise. thanks for another great video.

Okay... I have six historical dolls (Kit is on the way so we haven't met yet, just online dating so far! Ha!) my 1990's Felicity (my true love), my 1990's Samantha (doll I wanted as a child so much), Caroline (love her because of War of 1812 has so many historical spots to visit with her), Rebecca (looks most like me, but least bonded), on the way Kit, and my newly beloved Maryellen... I would definitely choose my Felicity and Maryellen... dolls I'm most bonded to and it was so effortless.... love at first sight. I have that same feeling with my on-the-way Kit.

I love that you're "online dating" Kit lol. You're definitely a classic mold fan, huh? The one you've bonded with the least is the only non-classic mold.

@agtakesover More than the molds.... its more of the era and story of the dolls. Like I reenact 1790-1812 time frame... so it's easy to bond with Felicity and Caroline because I love their clothes and know their timelines so well. And I collect vintage 1950-1960's vinyls, so Maryellen's teal actually matches my record player!

Hi Kristie,i could never at this time do this.Simply bcuz i only have 9 doll's, 8 AG Doll's & 1 Amazon Exclusive.I initially thought you were selling 80 AG Doll's. Now not sure if this is just a what if or your actually selling some AG Doll's? Plz let me know if you are selling AG Addy Walker or any other AG doll,thankyou. This is strictly hypothetical. Grace and I have discussed selling a couple dolls, but we haven't made final decisions and it will likely be only 3 or 4 out of our entire collection. This was just a fun mental exercise (and I'm glad you were able to guess a lot of the dolls I would pick).
