Pretty much, yeah.

I love this. Short, simple, and very Dragonball like. Sometimes you just want a nice muffin to end the evening, this here is the muffin to beat all muffins. When the whole bakery is filled with 20 story high cakes, Masako managed to condense it into a delicacy that starts sweet, and ends satisfyingly.

What is a god... to a non-believer? I too completely forgot about the Zeno button. Pretty big brain move.

I love this idea, but part of me feels like this could have been expanded into a two-parter. Goku and Vegeta had the opportunity to point out that he was no better than Zamasu, allowing himself to pursue this mentality as truth. It could've led to another interaction that may have snapped Beerus back into sanity, albeit briefly, if handled correctly. Perhaps Goku and Vegeta would then be saved from death, but it would lead up to the penultimate moment of Goku and Vegeta fighting Beerus for real later on. But that's just me.

@NOVA2001 yeah, I'd say getting rough endings isn't very dbesque but then I remember zamas turning into clouds and then having to resort to the erase everything button. What a hollow conclusion

This was perfect. you're brilliant Masako. I always thought the other creators went too far and it didn't seem like the dragon ball we knew but this was perfect imo.

Honestly Smugstick did really well and Carthu had a very odd but well done version that was pretty cool too and it was also a one off. But yeah some of the others really go a bit far and take unusual turns.

I just felt like they included too much fluff and I definitely know Whis likes the earth gang more then he likes Beerus so I gravitated more towards this story cause it comes off as more realistic.

WHEN I SAW SOMEONE SAY "hey do goku betrayed Masakox verison" I THOUGHT IT WAS A JOKE LOL

That ending was cathartic. And everything fit in Beerus’s character. Superb what if, Masako!

@@wolfboom2 No, I _don't_ want to think about it. Inserting yourself into a story and telling everyone about it is way too fanficcy for my taste. The writing can get muddied with unnecessary bias, and I'd rather not see that. It's much more compelling to see Masako write an established character, twisting them, then feed it to us like that. Also I dislike self-insert stories.

Beerus finally understood why Zamasu did nothing wrong.

Honestly after so many different versions of this story I thought that it couldn't have anything new added but once again Masako has proved me wrong and delivered a real unique story once more, I know it's a one off but hearing that "Lord Broly" bit really made me think of how he'd fair as a G.O.D.

I think this is the best version of this what if and the most Toriyama-esque. Well done Massako!

I gotta be honest, I liked the use of the Xeno button in this story! I haven’t watched the other versions of this story from other KZreadrs because (in 100% honesty) I didn’t know this was a trend, so I don’t know if it’s used in those Beerus betraying Goku stories as well, but it’s nice to see a clutch that doesn’t ruin the story… unlike the arc that shall not be named. Please keep this a one-shot. Continuing 21 raising Goku was nice, but some stories are better left finished quickly.

I have wondered since the reveal of Ultra Ego if Whis and Beerus aren't looking for a replacement for Hakaioshin, but, a rival. If Ultra Ego takes damage to grow one's power, maybe Beerus sleeps for decades at a time searching for someone to challenge him, not for the love of battle, but for the promise of growing stronger. He is also Whis' student, maybe whis is training Goku for the sole purpose of feeding him to Beerus.

I mean… that’s basically everything we know about Beerus, that’s canon. It’s outlined explicitly through most dialogue that Beerus has the two there because he wants a rival, that’s it, that’s all he wants from them. He just wants somebody who can push him to higher heights.

We're talking about the level of MUI we saw in Moro's saga. Basically we've got the MUI we saw in the anime.

This was really great, loved the ending especially. Whis was perfectly portrayed, he's not a mindless attendant, he has his own biases, opinions and cares way more than he lets on.

Episode is kinda bleaugh generally (unless you meant the original Bardock Special, in which case disagree), but the Future Trunks Special is a really well put together piece of fiction even outside of the context of Dragon Ball

I genuinely loved Carthu's take because it felt very in tune with Dragonball thematically and tonally. Looking forward to your take.

This story could easily be a new TV special. I can see something like this replacing the end of z. Whis saying “see you soon” would be a nice and fitting way to end the ‘Super Era’ of dragon ball and usher in something new.

I think the reason betrayal what ifs are blowing up is because there hasn't been any concept of betrayal within the good guys and it's because it's Dragonball. Dragonball is simplistic and goofy at most times. It can be serious but not as serious as Attack on titan or beserk.

I laughed out loud when I saw this. I'm in love with the biggest what if tubers turning this stupid idea into something grand.

This was the first of these Goku getting betrayed stories that is actually believable. Some of the other ones are outrageous.

When you said "It became clear, though, where it was coming from: Goku." Literally - *LITERALLY* - the moment you said his name, a peal of thunder from nowhere came from an approaching storm. It could not have been timed more perfectly. XD

DBS Broly was going off the manga continuity and was highlighted in the manga in the Moro Arc. If Broly is in this then Goku and Vegeta get MUI and UE.

This is why Goku is unintentionally unbeatable. Plot Armor, convenient-to-the-plot strength growth, MUI, and most importantly, by being Zeno’s play date buddy. And we all know that you never break Zeno’s toys. It’s heavily regrettable.

Hold up!!! If Beerus had that belt, why didn't he think of using it on Goku? But, then again he'll probably take Goku's freedom as well. Forcing him to be his GOD successor, isolating him from his family and Z-fighters, plus he won't be able to visit Zeno anymore either. That'll be wrong

Sounds cool but we all know if zeno found out beerus would be wiped from existence in a blink of an eye. Goku and vegeta have proven much more so after Super Hero, that they together can take out beerus, not to mention the ticking time bomb that being broly's rage and what ever godly boost he has gotten since we last seen him.

Honestly... Yeah, that's how things would go. Whis is the one in charge, even though he's the "attendant". If he sees that Beerus is going off the deep end, he's hatch a plan to rid him of Beerus without compromising himself.

This was a really great short story. I don't mean to rush but, what other short stories do you think you'd like to try?

I think Goku and Vegeta would have their respective forms (UI and UE), since this takes place 3 years after the Granolah arc (from the manga). Even if you're going with the anime timeline, 4-5 years should be enough time for them to discover (in Goku's case, master) those forms. I think that's why in the movie Whis tells Goku and Vegeta to fight without transformations, because we don't know what they'd have 3 years after Granolah (not even the writers themselves, and even if they did, that would spoil the forms that they would use in a future arc) and to avoid retconning the fight (since if they do unlock some new form in those 3 years, that would mean that they weren't using their full power in the fight in DBS SH). Anyways, I like your take on this what if and it's fine if you assume that they're weaker than manga canon(/how strong they could be in the timeskip in the anime), I just don't think that they wouldn't have the forms 3 years after the time they got it in the manga

What if Goku betrayed Beerus in a game of Halo with a random grenade...

So far Carthu‘s was the most realistic. Hope Masako can top it!

I actually think that would be a great story idea. In anyway possible, I want Beerus to be more revelant as well. Or maybe something so terrible that he has to give up his title of God of Destruction. Just something exciting, instead of eating and sleeping like a true cat all the time

Man, every time you pull off another What If it's really sad that we won't see the rest of it after the finale, or in this case - a one-off. I really love every single one of your stories and how you tell them, and I'm grateful to be living in a time when I can listen to all of it and wait in anticipation for next part or a new one entirely.

Goku: *_Hello loneliness my old friend, I have come here to get stronger again_* Edit: So, I just watched this what if completely now and well the thing that I said above is not in context. But, alot of the scenarios do contain this sorta thing hence I wrote it Also, I know that you won't see this but just in case u do, I want a what if where there is a 5 or so years delay between usage of dragon balls. Or even when the delay increases with each use.

The only thing I want in this franchise now is Goku and Beerus to fight each other to the death, so then Goku can win and move on with his life.

For the Zeno button, there are two sides to it. One where Goku would be brought to Zeno, and the other where Zeno would be brought to Goku. Imagine if Goku actually pressed that other one, where Goku got teleported to Zeno’s palace.
