Sign and trade is not the same as traded straight up, in most cases you can't keep a player upon extension so you sign and trade him, it's just in this case OKC is the one not giving the extension to Harden. Whatever the reason is, OKC did not think Harden worth the extension he ask for, it might have been Rus if he is the one facing extension at the time, but never KD, KD is someone worth to pay luxury for, even for OKC.

If KD was traded instead of Harden, there would have been such blowback. OKC would've been out in 1st round next few years. Now where would KD had been traded to tho? Rockets?
