This video was, legitimately, the same exact reason repeated 10 times, in 10 different ways. From start to finish. Like, just to simply this video and to summarize it in less than 10 minutes, sharks can’t be caged because they’re expensive to capture/keep and it makes them die from depression.

this video could've been titled. 'Top Three Reasons...', considering the other seven reasons were variations of one of the other three. Is it even necessary to mention how the length of the video would've been greatly reduced as well? 1) they're difficult to catch. 2) too expensive to transport and care for 3) they get sick/injured and die in captivity. that's it, what did I leave out? Oh, the shark of course!

Great White Shark swims at 60 km/h and reaches almost 2,000 meters deep. The orca does not exceed 55 km/h, as it needs to climb to breathe, it never descends more than 200 meters. The mouth of the Great White Shark has 3,000 teeth of up to 7.5 degrees, arranged in several rows and its bite force is 3 tons, the Orca loses badly in this regard, as it has "only" 40 to 50 teeth of up to 10 centimeters and its bite is 2 tons. The Great White Shark's sense of smell captures a drop of blood in a pool, while the orca has good hearing, but it is no match for the electrical sensors in the skin that the shark uses to detect animals from a distance. The Orca has a group advantage (usually they only attack this way), in 1 against 1 the Great White Shark has a better mobility head, which makes it easier to bite in unfavorable positions. The Orca is more intelligent, but in a frank fight I don't see a diminished advantage, because the Great White Shark hunts alone, in other words, in a 1-on-1 clash, it is already adapted.

However, it was not at all aggressive toward the other sharks in the tank. We did manage to get her to eat once or twice. That picture of the day was photoshopped LOL. I watched a documentary on Great White Sharks and scientists have actually discovered that sharks need to continue moving forward even while they’re sleeping to keep enough water flowing over their gills so they can breathe. They’re difficult to transport and keep for that reason. Because they have to be constantly moving they need to eat a ton of food. It’s difficult to keep enough live food available for them to eat.

It’s been said that Great Whites, require water to be flowing over their gills in order to breath. Something about the speed of their forward motion generates this. In captivity, they haven’t the space to reach such speeds and can’t generate the propulsion required, so effectively suffocate.

Thanks for summarizing the countdown! Even though the video says the #1 reason is it’s not humane, i think the fact that it’s “inhumane” may be #10. It’s all about the money.....no great whites are in captivity because greedy shareholders won’t get a return on their investment. It takes too much work. Greedy people tend to take advantage/exploit the weak, naive/ignorant and/or the vulnerable. It’s a good thing the for the great whites they aren’t cooperative.

The Bay Aquarium shows off exactly why keeping Whites are next to impossible. They held their young juvenile of only about a 5 foot length for only 198 days before deciding to release her back to the wild (partially spurred by her feeding on two other sharks in her habitat). The cost and resources required to host the baby, who was a fraction of the size of an adult was absolutely insane, the White required a tank of almost 1 million gallons of water and with a depth of almost 40 feet. Most Whites get up to about 3-4 times larger than that juvenile and would need a similarly increased aquarium size just to maybe accommodate it. Not to mention that their dietary needs change wildly depending on their age, with juveniles like the Bay's specimen able to subsist on a normal fish diet like most other captive sharks, whereas a full grown adult would require an inordinate amount of mammalian flesh on top of the fish diet.

Monterey Bay Aquarium kept one for 198 days. A four foot female, I got to see her. She was in a huge tank about 4 stories high with other sharks, fish, even turtles. One of the workers came out to set and watch the fish while having lunch and I asked which one was the Great White. He said "Just watch, she'll be the only one swimming by herself. None of the other fish will have anything to do with her." After a short time there was a void where all the fish just moved away and there she was. Not as big as the other shanks, but imposing. They released her after she killed two other sharks.

I just vaguely remember a large shark with a white stomach and a little podium with info a great white. I’m sure it wasn’t actually a great white, because they are huge, and not going to survive in a tank that small, like a couple people said, it was probably a shark that look similar to one with a misleading podium. "a lot of aquariums have tried to capture great white sharks, it has just proven to be impossible. This is because a great white shark is one of the hardest sharks to capture"-me trying to fill up my essay so it meets the 10 paragraph limit.

The Monterey bay aquarium did successfully keep a white shark. It grew to large and had to be released. It also ate the other fish in the tank.

100m: then why are orcas and dolphins in aquariums? 100M: because they're nowhere NEAR the size of great white sharks science: orcas have been eating great white sharks-

they eat great whites because they are always trying to find food as a group they are never alone, if it was a orca vs a great white 1v1 then the orca probably wouldn’t win that

ziff ツ Orcas have been killing great whites by themselves since day one. Orcas are much smarter and know how to kill great whites easily.
