Korea even before the sundering had a proud history of very deep and binding respect for their warriors and also this sense that everyone in Korea was merely an extension of your own family. That is why the most common honorific given to those to whom you spoke to (if they were an elderto you) was 'Auntie' or 'Uncle' as a sign of respect, and if you were speaking to someone considerably younger than you it was similar.

When people's faces are blurred out from a video, it means they didnt give their consent. Likely the producers didnt want to tell these kind hearted people "its actually just for a video" so that these kind hearted people could feel good for the rest of the day from being able to help someone

Koreans may look a bit blunt or unfriendly at first cause their facial expression is a bit stiff (foreigners say that Koreans dont smile that much) but they are really warm-hearted people. They are the kind of people who can't pass someone looking for help. They will often go out of their way to help out someone in need of help. Once you become friends with them, they will give their heart and soul to you.

I saw a documentary about how the korean generations now are leaving their elders to live alone and worse case they die in their homes alone without their family knowing. I have been in Korea so many times and I see elders in the subway having difficulties climbing up the stairs with heavy bags and nobody bothers to help. I saw one elder looking at people just wondering if someone would assist her. It surprises them having a foreigner help them instead. I hope more Koreans do not only practice kindness through words but also in action. Parents are so precious. I hope they watch over their parents until they pass on. This is the asian way and that is how it should be. Life is tough but its always better when you have the support of your family. This video shows how precious these elders are...Anyway, I am not generalizing Koreans, I am just pointing out from actual experience. I got great Korean friends with the biggest heart. I hope I find more.

I’m more of a Japan fan. I love everything about Japan. But when it comes to appreciating elders, Koreans are surely better. In Japan, you often see youngsters sit at reserved seats even though they see some elders don’t get seats on subways. However, in South Korea, I ALWAYS see youngsters give up their seats when things like this happen. Generally, I think that Korean people are colder than Japanese people. Yet, when it comes to things like elder thingy, they are the best.

Ikr I have no idea why Korea is moving towards the Western lifestyle of leaving your families after a certain age. It won't do them any good in the longer run though, look at how hard the younger generations have it in the West. I hope the family centric, collectivist feature of Asian societies stays in intact.

[SIGMyPop]서인 국 사랑 so true. When I went to Korea last summer, I was shocked by how self centered people were since Korea was always presented as a culture that emphasizes politeness. Whenever we got on a subway train, the 20 something’s would dash to the seats and remain there, their eyes determinedly focused on their screens while the older people stood. I usually stood but I once got a seat and offered it to the grandma in front of me. She was so shocked that anyone would offer! It just made me really sad because in the US, despite our reputation for rudeness, people usually offered their seats to the elderly and people with kids. I even saw it in China despite how packed trains get sometimes. But for Korea...they are definitely not disability friendly and it seems the younger generation don’t seem to value the elderly.
