More advice for commuters is SPEND THE WHOLE DAY!! I know it’s shit but get up early and meet people for breakfast (if you’ve made friends) and ask to hang out after classes. Spend as much of the day ur there THERE, not just in class

I know she talked a lot about not picking a college for prestige, because your friends are there, etc... but GIRL, 👏LISTEN👏TO👏HER. I'm one of the poor souls who literally did just that and came to regret it hardcore. Let's just say I went to a very "prestigious" public uni in Los Angeles and did not click with it at ALL because I did not choose it for the right reasons. Top schools are amazing places to learn, but don't base your entire decision on a name. A lot of people saying a certain school is coveted doesn't guarantee you'll like it, so really do some honest research + soul searching before you make that decision. I also chose that school because my best friend chose it too. We grew apart for some reasons I won't explain, but don't put all your eggs in one basket PLEASE. I'm at a community college now (still a great choice, way happier now!), planning on transferring somewhere better for me. It'll all work out in the end, but considering your longterm needs when choosing a school will def speed up that process. Also, love you Jasmine, we're all so proud of you

Funnily enough I while choosing schools I initially chose the prestigious one but while applying something's went wrong but I got into another one and I actually prefer the one I got accepted to but my dad is breathing down my neck about going to the prestigious one even though I don't want to and I didn't get in

Emphasis on not putting all your eggs in one basket!!!! I have just finished my third year at uni (about to go into my final fourth year) and I definitely learned the hard way that it’s best not to hyper focus on one group of people and remain sprawled out across a few! Don’t just be friends with who you live with- they’re your house mates but also have friends you go out and see perhaps from your course and perhaps another group you’ve picked up along the way etc. Create boundaries and varied friendships- don’t suffocate yourself with the same people because when things go pear shaped you may realise you don’t gel with the group as much as you thought or things just don’t work out and then you feel SUPER lonely. Anyone going through that transition at uni / college - you’re not alone and you will find people. I got out of a toxic group I became very embedded in at uni and now have friends dotted around the city who I love and see each once a week or less but feel like I have a good social life seeing people every few days. Trust me- DONT PUT ALL UR EGGS IN ONE BASKET💗 It’s healthy to have a variety of friends with varied intensity of friendships- you haven’t got to be super close to everyone you know but having slight connections yes yes yes

@@shireenansari9409 I was talking about UCLA but I genuinely don't mean to deter anyone from going there, it just wasn't the place for me :) My comment was meant to emphasize why your decision shouldn't solely rely on factors like that, I didn't mean to call any type of school bad~ I know people there who have really loved being there, I just made the wrong choice for my own preferences. I grew up in SoCal and previously knew I didn't vibe with West Los Angeles. There are some other things that made it the wrong place for me, but the things about it I didn't like could be things others would love! And for clarity, I don't think picking a school in part for the prestige is bad; UCLA is known to be a great school for a reason! If you gave your choice a good amount of thought though, I wouldn't worry too much. College is an adjustment regardless of where you go, I really do hope you have a great experience there

As someone as a stem major and minor, gpa doesn’t truly matter all that much at least in my eyes. Like I’m cool with getting Cs bc first off Cs get degrees! Secondly getting a C is not the end of the world. I’ve gotten a couple now and I can say, I truly tried to do well in all of my classes while being involved and taking challenging classes. I feel like getting Cs in STEM is so hush hush. I literally watched as people stressed themselves out to the point of not eating or sleeping enough over assignments that weighed only 10% of the grade. I’d rather keep my Cs and the lessons and experiences that came with them than get all As and nothing else. I just feel like personality, experience in clubs not necessarily major-related, hobbies and living your life outweighs GPA. Last tip of advice, if you’re a stem major don’t just take classes for your major if you can afford to take a “fun” like not related to your major but something you’re interested in!

I literally love you! Congratulations on graduating!! Im so happy that you enjoyed your college experience and thank you for sharing your wins and lessons with us along the way. Tysm for this video everything you said is spot on. The part about friends hits the hardest though. I feel like part of the reason I didn’t enjoy my first year of college was because I surrounded myself with my associates from high school. I got attached to them (since I knew them more than the other people on campus) and didn’t make an effort to meet new people because I was scared. The only other advice I’d add is that it’s okay to transfer schools! (If you can afford to do so) Idk if it was just me but I used to think that bc I committed to a school that I was like … stuck there and couldn’t change my mind especially since I loved it initially. Although I enjoyed it at first, I realized that it wasn’t the right fit for me.

My first school was really great and I'm glad I got the chance to have that typical college experience, but it just got too expensive even with all the aid they gave me so I had to leave (and pay them back half of what I owed before they would release my transcript for me to enroll somewhere else!!). I was a history major. Eventually I went to a good CC where my major was science so I got all of those requirements out of the way. The whole time I was working different jobs which led me to realizing I'm great in service fields, so I finally transferred and got my BA in Hospitality. Now I'm two semesters away from getting an MA in Organizational Sciences because of one class I took in undergrad. Throughout all of this, people came in and out of my life and my heart took some blows, but I now live with my partner, have a hotel job and an events internship. It's been tough and I wish I could've skipped some of the mess to get to where I am faster, but everything worked out anyway. Listen to this advice but be prepared for there to still be twists and turns and setbacks that lead you down other paths

I'm glad you mentioned the vibe thing because I felt it when I went on my second college tour! My first one was in the middle of a city so it felt okay because it was close to home, but the second just felt much more homey despite being farther and I'm excited to be going there in the fall!

Hey Jasmine love your videos you have such an amazing vibe to you. Congratulations on graduating!!! I graduated last year and it has a been a roller coaster to say the least. For anyone who recently graduated within the last few weeks here’s some things I’d love to share from someone who really went through it my first of year of post grad. 1. Your academic achievements are an amazing accomplishment and you should be proud of that. But unfortunately none of that matters after you graduate college. Your grades even internships won’t fully guarantee you a job. This leads to my second point. 2. As an introvert I truly struggle with this hard but NETWORKING/CONNECTIONS IS EVERYTHING!!! Trust me I hate that it has to be this way but that’s just how the system is. I was able to get a temporary film PA job with Sony Pictures last year solely because my cousin knew someone the VFX department. 3. Try different things. If you’re like me and doesn’t have a set plan laid out it’s perfectly fine to try out different career/jobs to see what works for you. Our society conditions us to stick with one job and thug it out for a couple years but that’s just corporate America trying to manipulate you into exploitation. 4. You will lose a lot of friends and that’s ok. As you know, some “friends” you went college with weren’t really your true friends to begin they just hung out with you to feel less lonely. But some of these “friends” typically only wanted a one dimensional friendship to where they expected you to be a true friend to them but didn’t want to reciprocate that same energy back. It’s hard thing to accept and it will be painful, but at least you will know who is really there for you IN YOUR BEST TIMES AND WORST TIMES!!! 5. Stop with the people pleasing…. NOW!!! That people pleasing shit is dead and will literally lead you into depression. Because that’s exactly what happened to me. It’s so important that you set healthy boundaries without feeling guilty. PROTECT YOUR PEACE AT ALL TIMES!!! Because it’s YOUR life at the end of the day. 6. You are not failure if you live with your parents for a good while after graduating. That is truly a blessing, depending on if you’re parents are good parents that love and support you unconditionally. I honestly wish I had that option but I have a dysfunctional family and intense childhood trauma. Plus my birth mom and stepmom are deceased and my dad is a shit person so I don’t really have a home to go back to. I had to be on my own. If you have good parents that will let you live with them as long as you need, take advantage of that. And try to start saving money in the process. Seeing your bank account being cleaned tf out by rent and bills every month is a different type of pain as an adult. 😫 7. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Nobody has things fully figured out. Even people in their 50s and 60s are still figuring shit out. You’re doing your best and our country is literally in hell rn so I’m proud of you for doing what you can to live the best life you can live in these circumstances. 8. You will have dark days. Don’t run from them, accept them. Let yourself feel everything because that is how you grow. Masking what you go through only gets you so far and it ends up taking a toll on you physically, mentally, and emotionally. 9. Everyone’s race is different. Stop constantly comparing yourself to others. You might see that “so and so” as perfect but you don’t know what kind of demons that person is facing behind closed doors. 10. Be genuinely good/kind to people as much as possible. That’s if they’re not complete assholes then that’s a different story. But an act of kindness to someone WHO DESERVES IT can really make an impact on their lives. But pls don’t record the shit either I hate when content creator do that. It just comes off as self serving and disingenuous. 11. Follow your intuition. Please don’t be like me and consistently walk away from opportunities out of fear and doubt. You’ll regret it. 12. Stop caring what people think of you. This is extremely difficult but you must try to keep exercising not giving fuck about what people of you. The legendary TV character Mr. Feeny from “Boy Meets World” once said, “If you let people’s perception of you dictate your behavior, you will never grow as a person.”

By second year of college I rarely spoke to any high school friends and we’d just exchange smiles in the hallway as I had a new group of friends to hang with. By the end of my time in college i had one friend who i don’t speak to anymore now so I suggest never let petty arguments with friends get in the way of your experience at college or going to a school or job just bc ur friend is going. Do what YOU want todo! I didn’t follow my remaining friends and go to uni i went on a gap year and now work full time, i don’t have any friends there just close co workers but I’m personally okay and I’m happy with that :) don’t let society make you think you have to go partying every weekend and have these massive groups of friends all the time

i just wrapped up my first week of college, and i rlly appreciate the first point! im in a community college and its hard not to feel a bit weird about it, mainly bc i know i definitely could aim higher and seeing the experiences university students have. Its a comfort zone thats out of my comfort zone, if that makes sense :).

Congrats on graduating!! Such a big accomplishment! You are absolutely right, nothing wrong with community college! School is not affordable or reasonably priced, and a lot of people cannot get an education without financial aid, so community college is a great option. Also advice for any college people out there, don't live in the dorms especially if you are introverted and the field you choose to go into does matter for job hunting most of the time. People say it doesn't and I listened to them and I regret it. My GPA was horrible in high school and unfortunately I did not have a choice in what college I went to, and my college was horrible and they made my life miserable for four years. I still have not received my physical diploma from them because they think I owe them money when I don't, and I graduated back in 2019.
