I think it would actually be kinda interesting to see you learn to cook/cook for yourself in a week? Compare the price different and how much time it takes out of your day?
@alexamoon1292

yes, this is literally a win-win situation
I think it's unfair to blame these high monthly costs on 'NYC pricing'. I don't feel like the prices for food and coffee are that much higher than where I live in northern Europe, yet this is nearly my monthly spend. The reason you spend so much is mainly because of your lifestyle. Never cooking your own meal just adds up really quickly. Obviously I understand that this is just the way you choose to spend your money and I think you're really enjoying this lifestyle. So you should absolutely do what you feel like, but don't just blame it on the prices that are only a bit higher 😉

i was gonna comment something similar! his weekly spend is my spending budget for 3 months, and he spends it all on takeout food. no hate to him or anything, but i definitely think most of that spending was avoidable

I believe my stomach would hurt if i would eat so much out. I understand it's part of the lifestyle in big cities but seriously nothing beats home cooked meals.

It's also because of where he buys his food. I could use the amount of money he spends on coffee per day and buy an entire meal at NYC Chinatown.

Partially because of the money he has to burn from his overpriced/overrated clothes that get sold out within minutes to his fanbase. You have a dedicated fanbase and you’re guaranteed to sell out any and all merch.

Elliot spent $98.99 on coffee in 7 days, that's an average of $14.14 per day. Of course, he did buy his friends coffee too...and I hope you buy me one in a few weeks!

It's so funny since my best friend also used to have the same mindset when she was Elliot's age. Cooking and cleaning take A LOT OF PRODUCTION TIME. She was intending to hire a maid/chef (growing up in shanghai this is pretty normal for expats). Now in our late 20s approaching early 30s, she decided she loves to cook, grocery shop, ect ect. Not because it saves her money but more so she just enjoys it and helps her slow down so she doesn't constantly feel like she's in a huge rush to push production and work all the time.

Agree. I cringed watching this tbh. But i get that he’s young and earning but it felt like, he’s not there yet-that realization/epiphany lol. So I let him be. But for me, wrong/clickbait title (should be what I eat in a week)… and yeah, he was justifying his expenses.

And also because it saves her money...
I appreciate that we get transparency in this. Lot of these videos I swear everyone is legit living a lie for a week just to make the content. It’s also worth mentioning you would still have rent / bills to add into the weekly breakdown which in NYC are real numbers.

honestly one of the best decisions i made was getting into the habit of making my own coffee -- i found beans i like, and a way i like to do it (i use a type of french press) and a milk steamer and its saved me so much money, plus ive had a lot of fun getting into learning about coffee and trying to get better at coffee art!! lol. i used to spend almost $100 on coffee a week and now I'm down to about $20 at the start of the month for beans and then i'm good :) it's a fun hobby tooooo (making all kinds of different syrups on the stove, and experimenting around!)
@lmaoitsover
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but French Press only works for french press. As you can see, this guy mainly drinks lattes which requires an espresso machine otherwise with a french press it'll taste watered down and weak. For some people like yourself, you can mix french press + milk but it would taste very wrong to people who are in the coffee world as only typically a moka pot (apart from espresso) is somewhat capable of producing drinkable stuff when mixing with milk. You can actually get a decent espresso set up for fairly cheap (grinder will be more important than the machine itself).
omg Elliot i respect you so much this was so entertaining and aesthetic to watch and weirdly inspiring in terms of lifestyle

The quality of Elliot’s vids are on another level! Loved this 🙌🏼
Food, coffe etc. cost the same in Scandinavia. So for most students its seen as a luxury to go out and buy coffe or food. So I don’t think it’s the NY-prices, but more a life style choice. As you mentioned: not cooking your own food can be expensive. 🤗
Have you considered getting a reusable/ keep cup? Would be a lot of plastic saved :)

It was so good to see your college friends and especially Chris after so long, missed that dude in your vlogs fr ❤️❤️
such an interesting video for this week! to know people who live in nyc, for me (who live in southeast asia) it kinda pricey to spend 700 dollars for a week. but back to each country has different currency. this one is really inspired me to started to work for myself in my early 21! thank you so much elliot! u do really inspired me so well!
The price of your meals are insane but the price of the clothes you bought are even crazier to me. This really shows how well off you are

Loved this video. And not too shabby on the total cost for the week at the end! That’s actually impressive considering how much you ordered out and nyc prices.
I go to college in the city but I'm home for the summer. Watching your videos is actually making me miss it 😩
Elliot out there giving us some good quality content, love to see < 3

Kelly’s Lock Screen makes my life 7 times better.😂
Apart from cost, there are many nutritional and mental health benefits from cooking at-home meals! And if you plan properly and choose simple recipes, it definitely won’t take 2 hrs.

I agree, also it's a great way to slow down a bit before getting back to your work again; and oven cooked foods is a great way to mitigate if your concern is time consumption
Hi from Jamaica 🇯🇲 I love your videos ... I love how you keep positive and just letting us know stuff other youtubers wont tell and overall be real with your viewers
You know you're in a similar audience when everyone expects Graham to flip out! Jokes aside, honestly once your income exceeds a certain level, coffee runs are a nice way to get some steps in, experience a different atmosphere, and a chance to have a social break sometime during the day that can easily be worth the $5~!
I hope Luke and isa move in the dynamics between the five of you are so fun
This video is pure consumerism and it's awesome.
Love your vids. Just one suggestion. Since you often buy take-away coffee, it's probably better to bring your own tumbler/bottle to the shops to be more eco-friendly.

Elliott you would literally save so much money if you bought instant coffee and milk and an ice tray and just made the iced latte at home i promise it tastes the same, better in fact
Cute That kelly has ashley as background
Eliot buy a coffee maker & a grinder, then order through Costco Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee (the best IMO). It is a 2lb. bag & lasts me 3 months costing $12.99. That will save you immensely delivered right to your mailbox. As for food, start cooking or ordering precooked meals. I live in FL (everywhere is expensive now) but over $700 for a week? That's more than my mortgage for my condo. Anyways, you're awesome. Fun video
I probably spent that in one moth, it is really cool to see that, because we are in different periods in our life and in different cities, and u have a work that a probably will never have so yeah really cool to see someone else’s experience
Was so happy to see Annemarie in the video ❤️ just doesn’t feel complete without her.
Yeah, I agree with you Elliot. Considering the high spending on that current week's spending on clothes it's still not bad at all. Like you said, since you don't always buy new clothes every single week, under 500/week in NYC is considerably good. Obviously, you could always find ways to cut that cost even lower but so long as you're happy spending what you do then it's all good. Money may not buy happiness but if it makes us personally happy then I see nothing wrong with that.
yay, loved seeing annemarie!
I would love to see what you cook in a week!!! Basically a what I eat in a week, would be very interesting 😮 cos I know you eat out a lot!
