I mean it depends on the deck, the playstyle of the deck, the actual card which is being used, and what the boss monster does since most boss monsters are OTK enablers. However, the game is very fucking annoying right now with dragoon pass so while you have a point, it is also debatable since it depends

One thing I love about Vanguard is the lack (Or in the case of premium at least, a Greatly reduced amount) of disruption. I can play my cards on my turn and not have to worry about my opponent negating every one of my plays, blowing up the rest of my board and tributing my Vanguard to summon Ultra Instinct Turn-A Super-Gyze Thanos Dragun which also negates my human rights on top of it. And what disruption we go have is rather predictable since you know much of what your opponent has in hand, and you'll be on the look out for the 4 draw triggers regardless as just natural play.

@@nmr7203 not really the definition of interaction in card games. in your post that is simply i take my turn and next you take yours. you dont respond, you simply act acording to the new board state and hand. interaction doesnt mean interrupting, something i see stated everywhere unfortunately. card games culture is strongly divided between new and old. new games favour streamlining and simpyfication to a point that new generatins of players have no great grasp of what interaction does even mean or the varieties it can present itself.

I don't like drama. Im just a casual player. It's nice having to talk about the good things for once

The reality is that Vanguard players don't brick as often because we all develop Psyqualia eventually out of love of the game. Thanks for posting this, it's definitely a lot of what I like about the game too. Just to add a little on Drive checks, honestly, while they're RNG I also like them because of how it factors into guarding on the Vanguard attack. It's actually kind of funny how much Drive checks really add to the game in obvious and not so obvious ways. Also, as you said the flavor of the clans is wonderful. I also like how there's really a clan for anyone. You have Giant Robots to fantasy Paladins to Mobile Weapon Platform Dinosaurs to Mermaid Idols.

The biggest thing that got me into Vanguard was alaways getting all my effects negated in Yugioh. In Vanguard I could do my effects uninterrupted unless its an on hit. More immersive.

8 year yugioh player here, and I just got into Vanguard (played 3 games so far, lost 2, won 1) and I had so much more for in this short time in Vanguard than I have had in yugioh in a LONG time. Yugioh nowadays is "Don't let your opponent play the game, and you play solitair". Vangaurd, I actually get to play, and you can easily bounce back from losing as opposed to other TCGs. Plus this game is WAY cheaper. 3 cards that are must have at full playsets for in yugioh costs 1200 bucks! For 9 cards! This game, I can spend about 100 for a great deck.

I'm having so much fun getting back in to the game. Been gone for a little over a year. First event was yesterday and I had a blast. Met new people and got second place (also got a Harri sp pack) But the game is just so fun right now.

Say what you will about the rest of the game, I think using damage as a resource is genius game design.

Yes, I love that they use this design on many TCG like Duel Masters, Battle Spirits, Digimon Card Game, etc It really helps with the snowball effect

The thing I love about Vanguard is ANYONE can win regardless of their financial situation. I saw a 1st timer use a stock starter deck (royal Paladin) and beat somebody using a deck worth $500. The look on his face when the 1st timer pulled off a victory using a starter deck was epic!!! Money bags didn't use enough shield power to cancel out his attack. Noob drew a crit and a grade 3 during twin drive (his Grade 3 Vanguard adds +5k if a grade 3 is revealed during drive check). Mr Money bags quit Vanguard after that. There's ALOT of luck involved in Vanguard that's not seen in other card games I've played.

I think a video like this is really needed once in a while! Chapeau! I loved it!

I recently got back into the game after finding my old (pre-v series) cards, and started really missing it. I got a coworker of mine to play with me and I remembered how much fun I had when I first played. We play standard only, cuz it was easier to teach him that. All that to say, I've become aware of the drama, but if you just look at the game and how much v-series improved the game, its really a great game, and I'm glad to be back in it, despite all the recent drama.

Same I also plated almost everything from yugioh as a kid to now. Vanguard then buddyfight then weiss then super than digimon I also played magic but did not enjoy it or the people I love these kind of discussions video

It's been easy to forget this year how much I love Vanguard, because we spend most of the year talking about Vanguard instead of playing it. Yes bushiroad made some huge mistakes but at least they're listening and trying to fix so hopefully Overdress is a lot more balanced. Premium is still really fun though. I agree 100% that the main reason I got into Vanguard was the aesthetic, there's just a multitude of amazing clans with cool art and lore, even the clans I don't play I mostly love and respect other than one. I also think the mechanics are great and super fun even if sometimes I get crit out of the game or have to whiff a G Assist. I also agree with what you say about yugioh, that's why I could never get into competitive yugioh, so I just kinda enjoy playing my fun anime based decks with friends with a few hand traps, but not too many. It's a lot more fun for me personally that way.

I love the anime, and i love the art and characters.

Not fond of drama, but I do enjoy Premium more as I feel that it gets a modest amount of ygo's mechanics without it getting busted (g-guards & Shirayuki acting like hand traps) like Dragon Link or whatever bollocks affiliated with Firewall Dragon does. Also looking forward to Rush Duels since there's a chance to turn the tables because you can draw 5 max per turn if you use your starting hand, but that's too early too judge.

Really good video and yes, Vanguard has a ton of great things that many games don't and won't have because of their main structure. The flavour and lack of a mana system, plus avoiding having non-games because of bad draws or bricks is awesome!. Lately Mtg fixed the mana system with the new modal lands, but is still a problem and yes... too many bans... at this point standard is part of the R&D environment XD is still quite fun but green is fucking everywhere, even though Rakdos, Dimir, Mono Red and other small flavors can compete somewhat decently and reach a top 8 or even win in some cases. Yugi has a lot of problems... i'm playing now the Duel Links and love it but the lack of identity is sometimes confusing... wish they had great bonus for playing an archetype. Also one amazing thing that CFV has is that by having clans, a broken card doesn't bleed into other clans and therefore doesn't provoke so many unforseen interactions and require tons of bans, clans are best way thing and i really love it because of it!

Force of Will actually fixes the Mana screw issue by having their "lands" in a separate pile and you get to set 1 "mana" every turn. This video was well pointed out on why VG is fun.

Force of Will had the chance to become a really big card game but they fucked up with MoA, Regalia and R/R. Is kinda sad because I really enjoyed the game when it came out english.

@@KingRoturix TBH I think they were going strong until the twilight wanderer. At that point it felt like heavy powercreep set in and you'd have to play the absolute newest decks or else you were screwed. I really enjoyed the diversity in Grimm cluster/seven kings of the land. Plus the game felt really under-supported and unpopular so it kinda just faded out after it's initial boom.

I really enjoyed this video. I hadn’t considered the point about drive checks and deck velocity before. You mentioned as long as you have grade 1 you get an extra draw. Also if you’re stuck on 0 you still get a drive check to help you. So yeh I agree with everything in this video thanks for the upload

With the rest of the year basically done, I hope this lands on a high note. we mourn 2020 this year. We move forward with 2021.

I know i'm late coming to this video and leaving a comment, and i'm sure most of my points have already been commented by someone else, but the few things that keep me coming back to vanguard vs other tcgs/ccgs are: 1. in Vanguard, i'm not constantly going into a game hoping my opponent doesn't open hand traps to stop my plays/or their combo pieces to win turn 1 and not allow me to play. 2. In vanguard i can pick up a deck i love and have had before a hiatus from the game, and come back and still have fun with that deck, even if not super competitive. 3. Most clans have diverse goals depending on your boss monster, where as like you stated, in Yugioh it just seems like most people are going for the same ending board and goal which is to not let your opponent play Yugioh. 4. I love the card art. Vanguard has some of the most eye appealing card art to me. I could keep going but I wont. Enjoyed the video Solemn!

I was in a local tournament yesterday and I also had a lot of fun. Only 5 people though so 3 rounds of bo3. Anyway I agree with the clan themes. Even though my favourite clans are the 2 ninja clans they still do different things which I like.

Ive been thinking about this subject a lot lately aswell. one of the things that I wouldve added before V era is that there is no rotation lol, kinda wish they only made the strides premium restricted, there a quite a few interesting older cards we could use even if they lack shield value.

Correction: You don't brick in VG unless you're Morikawa or play a full deck of G3 Rivieres~ XD

Games in which you are able to draw lots of cards are fun. Games without mana systems don't often let you draw cards because you see it and you can play it and it gets out of control fast. I think vanguard manages because you are limited in what you can do with cards to advance the board. You only have 6 zones and a limited number of attacks.

Shadowverse does have a system. Basically at the start of the game you start with one resource to play with and then in your next turn it will refill and increase by 1 until you max out at ten

Every game has its ups and downs. Lately, I've seen and heard a lot of negative things about all of the games. Thanks for sharing a loving light with us. I love this game, and I wish that other games would use similar mechanics. I really miss Warlord: Saga of the Storm. You actually NEVER brick in that game. No mana, no crazy costs, and your hand is ALWAYS refilled to 5 at the beginning of your next round (Turns work a bit differently there). EDH has more rng than standard magic, but more variety as well. All 5 deck supertypes are represented and supported.

Vanguard has a complitely different soul than the majority of TCG's, for that I can't stop playing it!

Battle Spirit also have Mana outside the deck and a reduction cost so probably gonna help.

Weiss schwarz as well has insane deck velocity like its perfectly normal to see your deck 4 to 5 times in a match

What I like about vanguard is that it doesn't have the cookie cutter "oh he has that in hand so I lose" or "oh I baited his removal but he drew all 2 of them in the first 5 cards so I lose". Vanguard doesn't have that problem, it doesn't matter if he somehow has 10 field bombs in his hand if you don't give them counterblast.

Thanks for this vid, it made me really think back on why I love vanguard even though I found magik and yu gi oh first, bushiroad like every company have their dark times and mistake and we should forgive them for it as much as shit they’ve done, without them we would not have the game we all love and the clans we all main. I used to play yugioh, then magic the gathering. Now i play vanguard. Now i think its the best Ive ever played. Since im in italy and play the Italian Version of G, there are some things i dont like. But there are way more things i like about it, so i dont really care about the bad things

As a business owner, CardFight Vanguard is very welcoming into the industry and into other trading card games. Like its mutually exclusive? If you know other Tcg, vangaurd doesnt make sense or is kinda weird to get into but Vanguard into other tcg is easy to get into. I taught my vanguard players Buddyfight and Magic where it was way easier to get em into it,

I started one month ago because I needed another card hobby. And what I love about it is that i dont need to understand a 6 sentence card and 4 invocations methods, plus ftk, stun. countdown decks.

Duel Masters and Dragon Ball Super Card Game has hands down in my opinion the greatest mana systems. Any card in your hand can function as a land/mana/energy. You just place it down, turn it 180 degrees, and the color of the card functions as a land/energy for the rest of the game. I wish Bandai released the same system for more shonen jump titles, not just Dragon Ball.

Bushiroad needs to hire icefrog

Tbh the only art I see that can even compete with vanguard is FoW, and the rarities in FoW aren’t as pretty in vanguard

+Jr Brodit Covid’s giving the competitive scene in all card games a bit of a hard time, but the game’s in quite a solid state imo. Both formats have some cool decks now without anything feeling too toxic.

It’s heavily dependent on search power and player interaction. You *can* do so, but it’s unlikely

As someone who didn't play yu-gi-oh as a kid, so I never had that nostalgia of it, it's such a hard game to get into compared to Vanguard or any of the Bushiroad games tbh. I play Weiss/Vanguard/and formerly Buddyfight (RIP). Magic was the same, mana system isn't good, same reason I stopped playing Heathstone.

Dude I've been mana screwed and came back from it. It depends on what format you play in magic where you can get mana screwed but yeah being mana screwed is a thing you do need to worry about or being over floaded with mana and no card to dump that mana in

Biggest thing i don't like about vg is it only last 4 rounds, 5 if rng happens. I dont agree the deck velocity is good enough to be praised... but i came from weiss shwarz where we refresh deck at turn 4 so what do i know XD. Also don't like the fact protect decks are meant to slow the game but only megacolony has actual control mechanics and the others just get big shields. Aside from that, i've enjoyed the time i've been playing vanguard the last 3 years.

No mana restrictions because we have limited fields, and “grade” is somewhat of “mana” in vg imo

This is literally the reasons why I started playing vanguard and still love it 5 years later and stopped playing yugioh when I played yugioh ever since I was 5.

Solemn Vanguard Is it because of the burnout thing? Me and my roommates still play constantly and have a good time but the release are hurting my wallet something fierce right now.

I wouldn't want Vanguard to have a mana system like MtG, but I do think some aspects of Buddyfight could work well in Vanguard, particularly gauge as a resource. For example, I find the current damage system to be quite annoying, because costs are always at the mercy of whether or not the opponent can, or is willing to, give you damage. If Bushi swapped out damage and counterblasts for something like life and gauge from Buddyfight, the speed at which you acquire your primary resource wouldn't be hugely different, at least in the early game. Unintented forms of damage denial wouldn't be holding the game back, and the primary resource wouldn't be as unreliable as counterblasts are. And you mentioned that you like that Vanguard units generally don't have call costs, but I think that is something that could make Vanguard more interesting, and a gauge system would make it possible. As the game currently is, damage denial would potentially lead to more bricking if you wanted to play various high cost units, so it's not really something that Bushi can experiment with. If they could cost certain units, like how Buddyfight had both free units and units with costs, then Vanguard would be a lot more diverse in terms of deck building and deck archetypes (like aggro, midrange, combo, control, etc). I know a lot of people love damage denial, because it encourages players to do something other than go face, but there can still be other ways to encourage players to aim for rear guards. Powerful units with higher costs would be one of the reasons actually, as they could potentially be more threatening than they currently are. And if you still want denial to exist, then gauge removing effects could easily be implemented too.

@@fumihiro8564 I'm not denying it's not important, but I don't think it is necessarily healthy for the game. As long as it exists in the game, of course you do need to utilise it, but what I'm proposing is that Bushi could remove it if they ever choose to reboot again. Of course this probably won't happen, but I think it would have a positive impact on the game, as CB skills would be easier to design for if they were more reliable. As the game currently stands, people lose their minds if a powerful effect costs soul and not CB, but instead if it costs CB, then players aren't as worried, because they know they can at least abuse damage denial to avoid it. It makes it much more difficult to balance CB and SB costs when one is preventable and the other isn't.

I’m thinking this could be implemented as a different recourse, kind of like soul, but not taking out damage, CB could be the strongest abilities, SB would be second strongest, and the gauge would be the weakest because it’s always refillable at any time

vanguard turn 1 : ride, draw, pass yugioh turn 1 : summon, effect, summon, effect, summon, link summon, effect, summon, effect, summon, link summon, effect, summon, synchro, effect, summon , xyz, summon, effect, summon, end turn with a full board.

You really did touch upon why I am increasingly losing interest in yu-gi-oh. When I play whatever archetype I choose, a lot of decks (not all) I play against seem to be just engines to pull the same boss monsters from the extra-deck.

Its funny that budget decks in vg can keep up with the meta decks

About the Magic thing... It wasn't bears. It was Elks. 3/3 Elks. People still have flashbacks. It was very traumatizing for everyone involved. Every creature in the format wasn't actually what it said it was on the card. As long as Oko was around, it may as well have been a vanilla Elk. Anybody who didn't play Oko may as well have been playing mono-Elk tribal. You think you just threw down a dragon? No. It is a 3/3 Elk. Put a giant onto the board to crush your opponent? What giant? All I see is a 3/3 Elk. Have you just summoned a zombified deity to strike down your enemies? Elked. Oko was everywhere in Magic, in basically every format, until he was banned. I wasn't even playing at the time and I still felt the ripples. I too felt as though I had sprouted antlers and become a 3/3 Elk.

Thoughts: 1- no bricking equals more fun. sure. comparing the mana system of mtg to everything that came after is always unfair. 2- deck velocity is a terrible name to what you are talking about with your secod point. Card acessibility perhaps, or simply how much of your deck do you usually have acess during game? If we go this route pokemon is the best game ever and yugioh is, in a completely diferent way, a close second as the combo system in play this days allows you to play what your deck wants to playand in a single turn? 3- deck variety: comparing any game to yugioh is a bad idea. there is only 1 way to play that game.

The game is WAY more fair than Yu-gi-oh,Magic etc.. It's cheaper to play! It's more friendly to newer players and easier to learn! And finally I love how the cards, effects, and rules in real life are the same as in the anime!!!

I would have continued playing if they kept old cards alive, aint gonna buy all the new cards to changing metas

I disagree with your point about yu-gi-oh. I think it's issue is more the lack of limits. Even without a mana system, vanguard still has pacing with the ride system. You can't cycle through your whole deck on your first turn. You also don't run into situations where every single deck has alot of the same cards in it for the sake of being able to interrupt plays. Which is only a problem because players can end their first turns on a board where the other player won't be able to play cards. Yu-gi-oh has gotten to the point where bricking isn't as big of a problem. It is nice that in vanguard, I don't have to sit there for 20 minutes while my opponent makes a board that will negate everything I try to do.

The biggest reason that got me hooked on vanguard is the card effects in real life and in the anime stays the same whereas in other card games like yugioh for example they have anime effects that are different in their real effects
