A question for you. I am curious about the cost of the glued up panels vs a cabinet grade plywood. Are the type of panels you used priced higher , lower , about the same as a comparable plywood? I don’t see the glue up panels in the home centers in my area. (MN, USA)

They’re a quite a bit cheaper than good-quality plywood. And they come in these handy sizes -sometimes I can’t get hold of a trailer and so it’s difficult for me to get a full sheet of plywood whereas these panels fit into my trunk. The wood is not as nice and not as sturdy as plywood but for shop cabinets it’s fine.

I think you are right, at the end of the day, the design and planning needs to be absolutely precise. I wonder if a CAD program might help?

After this, I really try getting into SketchUp to avoid such mistakes in the future.

Not only does it help avoid mistakes, but also allows you to try variations on the project. It may happen that what you pictured in your mind looks different once you put it together. I usually start with a general idea of what the project will look like and work out the details as I progress with the 3D model. The time spent drawing the model is time well invested and I enjoy it almost as much as building the real thing.

@@holzhandwerk_ak fusion360 is also really powerful and useful. at this point I am much better at 3d modeling than I am at woodworking though :(

Hallo Andres, ja -in SketchUp möchte ich mich schon länger einarbeiten. Allerdings habe ich meist wenig Zeit und habe es bisher immer vor mir her geschoben. Es wird langsam Zeit …

I was going to make exactly the same suggestion - it's a lot easier to find and fix the problems in a model than it is once you've cut your stock to size :-) It took me a good few hours of playing and learning with SketchUp before I understood it, but now I use it for almost everything. I've just been designing a cabinet to hold L-Boxxen myself, so it was reassuring to see your project before I started making. Did you consider adding backstops to the back of the shelves? That would stop the boxes sliding backward around so much, and would key them in nicely when you put them down on a shelf. Thanks for your very helpful videos. LG aus Berlin Max

Thanks Max, it seems that getting into SketchUp will be on my todo list in the weeks ahead.
