It's funny that you juxtaposed this with Avengers way back in 2014, given what Martin Scorsese has recently said about Marvel movies being more like a theme park ride. I immediately thought of this since he pays it such grand homage in his effects laden film Hugo.

I actually prefer A Trip to the Moon to Prometheus....

Very insightful stuff man, I like how you broke down specific elements that can be taken away and seen even in huge Hollywood blockbusters today. I'm a huge David Lynch fan (Eraserhead might be my favorite film), so if you found something or a particular film of his interesting enough to do an episode on, I'd love to hear your thoughts. +Take It or Leave It Reviews Thanks! It's just my luck that I've gotten a few requests for David Lynch movies, hehe. I feel bad because he is the main director that everyone seems to love except me. I should really revisit his films and give them another shot. I've actually seen a fair amount of his them, although I still need to see Eraserhead. Let's see, I've seen: The Elephant Man, Dune, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive. My gf loves Twin Peaks and has been trying to get me to watch it with her. I'll put Eraserhead on my list of films to watch.

@@CinemaTyler If you didn't like Blue Velvet...forget about Twin Peaks, as it is pretty much the same thing except longer and without a conclusion. (But great, great music). I loved Dune, because I love the story I accepted the compromises...I've gone right off mr Lynch recently though still think Blue Velvet is a classic. I think he had one film in him, and that was it. (a bit harsh🙀). Edit: Great music original series...Forgot the new one existed, which I guess is the one your GF watches.

@@CinemaTyler 1990's Wild at Heart, starring Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern, is another great Lynch film, with lots of references to Elvis and The Wizard of Oz. Plus, there's one scene involving an accident with a shotgun that must be seen to be believed. And, as with many of Lynch's early films, Jack Nance (the star of Eraserhead) appears in an oddball cameo.

about creative uses of color, you should really see Ivan Grozny Part II from Sergey Eisenstein! obviously i would recomend seeing part 1 first.

CinemaTyler agreed. but, it would be one hell of a scifi movie. dark, underground, tons of metal machinery and weird old medical stuff. and absolutely no cgi! i can see it in my head now... lol

+Charles-David Roc Hehe, you've got that right. I do think that it's interesting that filmmakers are exploring it as a tool. It's hard to tell whether or not it will catch on enough to become another tool in a filmmaker's toolbox though. Personally, I don't much care for the 3d that I have seen. I thought the thing Godard did in Goodbye to Language, where the camera moves in two different directions at once with each eye seeing a different angle, was pretty clever. There have definitely been many times where I've found 3d to be the opposite of immersive. When I think about it, I'd imagine that Tarkovsky would have done something interesting with 3d.
