I agree about being lean, my aluminum cases are 22lbs empty, with soft bags I can pack my total kit for 30lbs bags, tools, camping gear, cloths, etc...

I think this is the right way, but...everybody is free to use whatever he or she decide.

Thanks Pavlin. I prefer another method - and almost the same result or a bit less. Imagine you go by yourself. NO bike. Take only staff which you can carry whole day in your backpack. Not 1 day but day after day. That is all you need. Actually it is the same staff in different places - walk with backpack, on the bike or motobike or at the car. Same everywere.

One thing I aways take is an umbrella that folds up small. Its been really handy in both sun and rain. And it takes up very little space. BTW, my wife gets one pannier just like me. If it dossnt fit... it doesnt come. Simple.

Just a comment on hard zippers in general: if you rub a candle on them it makes them much easier to move. And it also helps a little with water tightness. Now I just got a week ago the new model from 21 brothers and although I have only been on one long day trip with it yet I can already say I absolutely love that bag - it even protected my leg and my motorcycle when I crashed on a steep muddy uphill in the jungles of Costa Rica (where I live) and itself came out without a scratch. Only downside is it makes it easy to take too much stuff :)

Wow, great video! I agree with you that less is better, however I realised have a problem - my saddle bags are close to 60 litres (30 litres each side) and with all this "available" space, i tend to pack way more then I need. I've done this mistake twice already, I think it's time to look for smaller saddle bags, so that I don't take more then I need. Also compartmentalising your luggage is a great idea, I will steal it and implement it, if you don't mind. I already divide some of my luggage in smaller bags, but to have one that you just need for the night that you take up into the hotel is great, coz not everyday you want to unstrap the saddle bag and carry it all the way up to the room. Thank you very much for all the tips and ideas, ride safe and enjoy every moment of it!

Brilliant video When I travel with others it's unbelievable what they take,myself a 30 ltr drying,15 ltr rucksack rests on drybag while sitting on bike. Waistpack for passport,money camera phone. Like your self,soap tooth brush, travel wash for clothes. 3 tee shirts, normally last few days after worn throw away along with other things. Travel light as possible, no camping stay In cheap places. Couple cans liquid rubber for puntures. Most important, half a candle. For zip lube ,waterproof some things ,emergency light. Another great video from yourself.

thanks for another great video i only have a backpack what is around 5kg but i cant do big trips around the world like you but every couple of weeks without fail i do around 400km to see family in 1 day on a little 125cc im from england so i ride on leaner plates only because it is so cheap to ride a 125cc as in fuel,taxes,insurance

I agree 100%. With each new trip I find myself taking less and less, yet I find that I have too much luggage still :-). You really don't need all that stuff with you on the motorcycle. Less is more.

Great video! I can only agree. Especially flip-flops, when camping and need to get up in the night easy to put on and prevents from all sort of skin related issues in public showers, they are light and small. I like to have a small headlamp. Mainly for camping, but can be useful when you dropped your earplug in the dark.. Kind regards

Couple weeks ago my motorbike pannier hit other motorists handle bar when i try to past him and they fell down. Its because his motorcycle had no mirror and traffic condition just like India. now I'm thinking of replacing my pannier with a motorcycle bag like yours. and this is the right content. One thing that I can recommend is a power bank flashlight. I have a Chinese one "sunerei" and its very useful. Can charge my phone twice, lights up entire campsite and it even has a magnet at the back so it's easy to attach it to the bike for repairs in addition to headlight

Very, very good informations! Thanks a lot for that. .... from journey to journey I reduced my luggage, same like you. I can remember a young biker with his girlfriend on a smaller Yamaha in South-France: A tankbag, 2 Cases and 3 Softcases + tent and a tv 📺 (the old one ˋs with tube) ....absolut crazy!! 😄😄😄 on a camping-size. I ask him, are you happy? and he always rolled his eyes. 90% of the stuff was from his girlfriend, she can ˋt live without that....

Interesting video, personally I just carry a tank bag, i went for a light motorcycle so its not very smart to put on extra 15-20 kg, I used to also use saddlebags but now I only really carry some Clothes and a few extras, when I go for long trips there are always cheap and nice hotels at the small Towns or villages I go through and its nice to get a taste of the regional dishes, if I go adv riding, its ussually just 1-2 days with friends so I swap the Clothes and stuff for a small sleeping system and some snacks

Hi Pavlin, thank you for very good videos and so much usefull information. Do you think about a video where you show how to instal your saddle bag on the bike and some practical info how to "operate" it during the trip, whether you need to lift your seat when you remove it from the bike, etc.? I believe nowdays because of good weather a lot of riders are looking for some bags and will be interested for many guys. I´m actually looking for one and wonder how to travel with it. I like that soft saddle bags, even had a great deal on big givi bag on sale, but I bought a couple of givi trekker aluminium panniers. It is because I travel mostly in russia and want to go to europe and Turker. My tent with sleeping bag fits to smaller left pannier (bike is 2008 bmw r1200gsa). It is a good travel direction in Mongolia, but I'll need a different lighter bike to do that anyways.

even after going through your earlier videos i still got the aluminium pannier s for my motorcycle and went on a 5000km trip in the himalays ..... and yes i did not need them in the very first place ...... extra weight and then extra weight (the things i want )...... i used sme of it for a few days just because i had them and had to justify bringing all of it ther but if you think about it then i actually did not need any of it maybe half of it just on the back of my motorcycle ........ the balance of the motorcycle was also not so good even though i tried to put equal weight on both the sides .......... in the end the panniers just turned out to be a good ......a show and an excited acssesorie smething whic other fellow bikers wud want to buy ....... the kind of trips i have the panniers dont have much of practical use ...... thanks for the info !!!

When you said you only take one pair of normal socks I was first very baffled, but then you explained that taking more is not necessary because it's possible to buy socks everywhere - mind blown. Thank you. On another note: Last year I went on a +1 week hiking trip and learned that carrying one piece of underwear, one t-shirt, one pair of socks, etc. per day was completely unnecessary because you can simply wash all these things by hand. It's not as perfect as machine washed clothing but it's completely fine (and it adds to the "adventure-y feeling"). Cheap hotels and other accommodations likely won't have a washing machine but you'll find a bathroom with a sink to wash your clothes everywhere. In fact, you won't even need to take detergent with you since using liquid soap works for washing clothes as well. Question: I assume it'll be hard to find places where you can buy a single pair of socks. I watched a lot of your videos and you talked about how there are always people around to help. Would brand-new unused socks work as a sort of trading currency? Giving people money is not always an option, I assume, but when you visit a region that is "poor" compared to Central Europe, would it make sense to take spare things with you to give them to locals?

Less is definitely more. Even my good lady now agreed although with her on my tenere I have to have 2 28 litre panniers. And a tank bag. That will do us from UK to Berlin, Poland, Slovakia, Austria and Czech republic in June for 2 weeks. Would be good to meet for coffee in Berlin when passing through if you about.

Put little lube on the zipper lane it solves the problem. I even use lube for my winter jacket zippers etc.

That's actually a pretty comprehensive kit, I usually don't even carry that much The one thing I do carry that you don't, and you'll probably get a laugh out of this, is a small original Sobakawa pillow Haven't gotten used to that, I am uncomfortable sleeping on any other sort of pillow 🤣

Haha... Yeah true " i might need it" statement appears all the time. I think I should shift to synthetic material t-shirts and undergarments, it is non dryable material then you tend to carry more and it is always extra pounds Or kgs. During my last trip all I carried was a duffle bag and a laptop backpack because it was only waterproof bag I had. Duffle bag in a polythene black Dustin bag rolled over. Since I have tubeless tires, no need for tubes except the repair kit. Sparkplugs, extra cables are already zip tied to the bike. One smartphone and a feature phone , camera gear, riding gear and helmet with ofcourse raingear

Nice. I don't travel as far as you or as long time as you. But I have a very similar setup. I stopped to carry sweatshirt because I have my riding jacket which I can wear. Usually I use 1 hiking pants, they can dry during your ride when you don't need them. And finaly rain gear. I have stoped to carry tent and camping gear 2 years ago. If you travel in Europe, its pointless.

In case I am only traveling somewhere I completely agree with you. I have done 3 trips like this last year. The problem I have encountered with this is if you want to also see something and you need to go away from your bike for an hour or two. Carrying your stuff with you is almost impossible (these bags are not made to be carried for long distance). Leaving it on bike makes it vulnerable to opportunistic thieves (I got one backpack stolen). Your MC gear is also not the most comfortable in 30 degrees to walk around in. For these reasons I am buying aluminium panniers this year. I just wanted to share opinion from different point of view. Not to mention if you travel in two. Camping gear for that alone would probably take more than whole bag if you don't travel only somewhere with warm nights so only light sleeping bags are needed. Btw: Where do you keep your rain gear and hygiene supplies? Anyway good luck on your future adventures!

The rain gear and hygiene supplies goes to the same bag, I forgot to take show it. Hard case could be unlocked very easy from almost everyone. What I do is to stop the bike in front of shop, coffee, petrol station or someone to look on it. The tank bag always taking with me. Never had any problems.

That's pretty much what I carry clothes wise. Like you I also wear synthetic or "technical" clothing. Washes easily and dries quickly and packs small. As for your "camping" bag,I'm impressed with its small size. I've cut back and cut back on the amount of stuff I take but can't get my camping bag down as small as yours. I'd like to know what chair,tent,sleep mat,sleeping bag you use,please. Are they listed on another video?

Most important thing on any trip is a gold credit card and propper insurance.

my main concern with soft bags is security, if im tenting in a camping ground and want to go somewhere on foot all a thief has to do is use his knife and he has the bag or its contents if he slashes the bag

Hi Pavlin, a great one again - thanks! I checked the 21 B website for the saddle bag. When seeing it on your Yammi I guessed it being 60L. They write about 30L and a possible extension to 50L. Which one is yours?

Wow! You sure travel light! I'd like to know what the total weight is including your tools etc as mine have to go in the luggage, as I have no where on the bike to store them. Looking to reduce my luggage compared to last year! Anyone having trouble with sticking zips.... beeswax is good, just run a stick along the length of both sides of the zip, or you can get products from any SCUBA diving shop, they use it on the zips on diving suits. Forgot to say, I prefer a long sleeve base layer compared to T Shirts to ride in.... even in hot temperatures...I find if my skin is in direct contact to my jacket, I sweat on my lower arms... long sleeve base layer 'wick' this away by design.

Obviously 21 brothers have taken inspiration from a certain company in Oregon, USA even following suit with the roll top solution demonstrated here. What separates the two is price. Absolutely agree on the less is more approach. Some images I see of long distance travellers on bikes and you can't even see the bike they have so much stuff. Each to their own I suppose.

Great video. Your packing list is similar to mine. Quick question: do your 3 sets of shirts, socks and underwear include the one you are already wearing? Do you wear 1 sets and keep 2 sets in the bag, or keep 3 sets in the bag?

If you mean the warm linings, yes and I use it in Ladakh.

Hey pavlin, can you access the inside of the bag when it is mounted on the bike? Or does it need too be stripped off before you can get into it? Cheers.

You can perfectly take out or put in everything you need when it's on the bike. In fact when I travel I almost never remove it from the bike.

Nothing special, whatever I have at the moment.

Another great video but you have to explain why your walking shoes are "lucky". I have comfortable shoes, my favorites shoes, but I don't own one pair I would say are my "lucky" shoes. You can't just put that out there and not explain. Keep this great content coming.

I am not an experienced rider but I am suprised that you do not bring some sort of tool to control your tire pressure for security reasons? Or you have enough experience to know when to inflate your tire I guess...

I ride motorcycles since I was 14 years old. I don't really need a tool to tell me that I have a flat tire.

Is it possible to buy one of those bags if you live in America and cant read polish? I tried their website but cant understand it?

Trevor, so there are two options: 40 (www.21brothers.eu/21brothers.eu/ROGAL_40L.html) and 50 liters this is I think 50L option what Pavlin has: www.21brothers.eu/21brothers.eu/ROGAL_XL.html - it is named ROGAL XL (rogal means more-less croissant in polish and that is because of the shape of bag I assume) - please confirm which and I will call them to check the price and whether they ship abroad - if not then we'll find a solution for you.

What size is your Rogal bag?

You take it to the nearest post-office and mail it home. No need to carry it around on the trip. At least, that’s what I do :)
