Just found this video, we have mostly orchard grass, meadow grass and some mixed grain hays here and of course Alfalfa that is sometimes mixed with the orchard hay. I like to feed a pellet that has all the qualities you mentioned that also includes some kind of probiotic. I really like your barn!

Hi Tim, my horse tested positive to the Hypp gene, so can't have any Lucerne or alphalfa. i feed her Golden years a mixture of chaff and pellets, also a grassy hay. Really enjoy all your videos, i have learnt alot from you.😏

What about soaked beet pulp? 7% protein and easy digested plus good for the digestive system.

Glad you posted this. Do you have bailed alfalfa available there? Horses seem to like the cubes more. Your climate is warmer there and damp compared to here. Seems an option to plant and harvest. Thanks for sharing..

We can not grow alfalfa here. I have tried getting it shipped in but the logistics of making that happen and getting a regular and consistent quality are not work the trouble and it ends up costing close to what the cubes cost so the cubes are a better choice for me.

Here in southern Arizona, I feed the best quality alfalfa I can get, trace mineral salt and all the fresh clean water they’ll drink.

I feed triple crown so expensive so probably could compare labels and find less expensive to do the same job

The horses must like the alfalfa cubes; I think they could smell when you dumped them😂 Do the horses get healthy type treats occasionally or is it better to stick to a strict regiment? I know for our dog, any deviation from her regular food will upset her stomach.

They get excited anytime I start rustling feed buckets. They get treats occasionally. Most all bought horse treats are oat or alfalfa based. They get an occasional apple but their favorite treat is carrots.

Hello Mr. Anderson! I'm in SE TX just north of Houston. If my horse is ridden mostly on weekends, and is pastured, do you suggest feeding less of both pellets and alfalfa? Can you advise the content of the pellets you use, not brand name but what grain is use, such as beet, or whatever else? Thank you so much for your wonderful videos!

The pellets I feed are alfalfa based. When I go to a show and the horse is burning a lot more calories I do feed more but you have to be very careful doing that. It can cause problems. If your horse is only burning a little bit more calories then I would balance it out over the week.

Probably but by thinking is the less processed the better. Also my horses eat the cubes better than the pellets.

I am a new horse owner. Most of the grains I am looking at the 3rd or 4th ingredient is soy bean or canola oil or corn. How can that be beneficial to a horse?

@@timandersonhorsetraining I was curious about them as I feed them to my boy who is not a hard worker at all but I do worry about the quality of hay over the winter. We get tons of snow so he eats a lot of hay over the cold months.
