Learned a lot of things from this video. Thank you for making this tutorial. You are so talented.
This helps a lot for the 3ds max community. Although most famous movies use 3ds max, Maya, and Houdini, it's really hard to know the process from real professional. I just see this channel for the first time and hit LIKE & SUBSCRIBE button!!!
I love how the look of Rogue One inspired this Dune city look.
This project looks really amazing, and I've learned a lot, nice job!
Thats really awesome. Love to see how the professionals do it! :D I'd also love to see how you did the compositing.
Stef, This looks incredible!! Well done!
Amazing work. man! I love it. Super lighting and landscape
Great breakdown of a top quality shot Steffan. Thank you so much for sharing!
Beautiful work! Love it! :D
Woah your work is so good. ❤❤❤
Man it's unreal! This video is really interesting!
Great breakdown on achieving cinematic quality level, refreshing to see 3dsMax still being used.

yeah i thought people said 3ds max is dead ?
Need more tutorials from your humble student fan❤
Love to see this kind of 3D max set up story from you … great environment artist …
Very well done! First thought you were using Clarisse to scatter the city.
Amazing! Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing the breakdown 🙌🙌
This is amazing, thank you so much for sharing. Would love a little bit of info about your lighting, rendering and comp.
Stunning !
Amazing, well done.
Thanks for the breakdown my man
Incredible work. Thank you to share this with us. Please make a more step-by-step video.
love to see more tips and tricks tutorials from you
Great tutorial/breakdown. Would love to know if everything was proxied. Also I love your "asset check" flow. Where each asset was rotated, THEN the lighting was rotated. Very clever.
Yes please makes detail tutorials ! You are insane :)
Amazing result.
Beyond inspiring. Could you please create a detailed postproduction video on this with Masashi Imagawa? How the scene was composited in post etc.?
nice breakdown :)
flawless
Great content!! I hope you could make more content like this
A paid full step by step tutorial for environment like this would be great
So epic!
Nice insights!
Thank you for the tutorial
incredible
Actually somehow less time complex than I would've expected, result is really nice
Really awesome...
wow is incredible, like they said is difficult to see on YT high professional workflow on max
Really nice
fantastic.
step bt sep tut will be really helpful 👍
Makes me want to create my own video game❤
Nice one buddy :)
Excellent breakdown Steffen. I was very curious, I saw on your ArtStation, that you previously used Maya for some of your projects. Which workflow do you prefer, Maya or 3Ds Max with Forest, Railclone Etc? And what tools are used if you for example had to do the same thing using a Maya based Workflow outside of 3Ds max. I Already know all the tools here having worked in Archviz for nearly 10 years, but I am curious what would be needed if I try and get into a Maya based production.
awesome
Awesome
Thank you 🙏
great job
Thanks for the Breakdown/tutorial! Did you switch to 3ds Max?
Wow!!!
Please talk more about shading details and how did u randomized the textures. Thx
@TheFireNoodle
2 жыл бұрын
So in Vray you can randomise the texture in multiple ways. The most simplest is using scholastic tiling in a vray UVW randomizer node that appears at render time.
NICEEEEEE
Please make a course on this .
hey your work is always inspirable and awesome , i have a question 0:59 how did u create the layout in 3ds max ??? i mean u modelled it or mega scans ?
@stfVFX
2 жыл бұрын
my friend Masashi did that, planes + displace modifier (texture) + move vertices
This is great! How do you scatter the building? Lmao thats the million dollar question.
oh, I like it much more than Denis' version! this is more like what book made me think of. Not just fortified lifeless city buildings all around, but life! People, colors, drapes, markets, stores..
Amazing work please make more tutorial and more deeply
Bro so cool I'm inspired You
In some parts of the video I can see a vertice count of about 40mil, is that only the terrain, or the complete scene with all the assets?
OMG! 🥵🔥🔥🔥
how did you scatter the props? did you hand place every building or...
Hello Steffen, how much take for these render shots? And what is your PC specs?
they also use 3s max so its like original
It is a perfect job! really amazing! Dear friend what is a so beautiful soundtrack in video? I couldn't find same in DUNE 😞 Would you give me name of this soundtrack please?
you're fucking amazing
Do you also do the compositing?
what hardware configuration you used for this heavy scene..??
30M POLY !!!! DANGGGGG MY PC COULD NEVER , whats your setup?
How are you rendering a huge scene like this?
Where to render your animation sequences, do you use a render farm or do it local on your machine, any advice on this topic? How long does it take you to render each frame? Do you use CPU or GPU?
@stfVFX

Local machine, 8 min/frame on CPU

@@stfVFX You have very good render time per frame for such a realistic sequence. what processor do you use? For your lighting, what do you use HDRI, or Vray Sun?
@stfVFX

@@stfVFX You have a great course on a photorealistic scene, it would be great to see a course on how to handle a VFX-type animated scene like the ones you do, how to optimize them as you say, render settings, render elements and all that stuff. You have been very kind in answering my questions!
@TheNjordy

@@stfVFX Could you elaborate on optimization part? :) I mean the render time is very surprising for a prosumer level CPU
What is a rough estimate on time frame for this project?
Did you used GPU render ? Or Cpu ? Great detailed work …

CPU! I dont know of any GPU that can handle that heavy scenes

@@stfVFX Agree …what about multiple GPU Also with network option ?
as for rendering ....how many hours does it take?
Is there any wayu you can give us some insight on how you were able to handle and maniuplate with any kind of efficiency and speed that kind of mind boggling polygon and asset count? Was everything proxied? Do you guys have a building full of Xeon workstations with entire racks of 3090TIs with entire shelves of exobytes of RAM? I understand studios have more computing power but something like this....in 3DS Max..? I'd love to learn how to come even close!
@stfVFX

You will be surprised how much optimization helps..ofc everything is an instanced proxy and we re use the same textures alot - i rendered this on a 5950x Ryzen and the scene only took like 38gb RAM..

@@stfVFX thats not possible i dont beleive it
since the KB3D buildings don't have beveled edges, how do you handle this? Does VRay have a round corners option for its shader?

Yes there is. Never used it so far though. Those models are not made for closeups

How u place trees in max....i am 3d artist from india i recently working on a project that i have to make environment....environment have tooo much trees..i used maya mesh network to place tree but my file is crashing 😢
Hey, you are a really talented 3d artist. Very impressive work. However, I can hear that you are using my music, without my permission. I've never stated that my music is free, and I know, that you know that you don't use other people's hard work without their consent! Since you are a content creator, I would expect you to respect this. What was the reason for you to go about using my music without asking?

Read about copyright exceptions, such as fair use. You upload 10 hour of ambience loops, you can't expect to copyright it for monetization purposes. If you really want to be petty about it, go ahead and utilize KZread's copyright system, but I bet that won't get you anywhere anyway.
