They can't stand the fact that WCE have Harley. But it's shameful to put out there at every opportunity they get that Harley doesn't want to be here or will leave. Talking about how far he is from family and friends, like if he's the 1st player to do so and comments about him shining because the Eagles aren't a good club. Well ... we have been and are a great club. Besides, how many of some Victorian clubs have got 4 Premierships? Harley Reid is young, but he's showing that he's got integrity and a lot of class. I'm sure we'll see he's a loyal young man 💙🦅💛
Ollie Henry was homesick at Collingwood and had to go home to Geelong lol!
Incredible how we are in a time for men to "man up" and open up about their feelings only for it to be used against them for whatever perverse motive. The kid is trying to build something and any throwaway line is being used to plant seeds of doubt.

Luke Shuey was drafted out of Victoria in 2008. Didn't play at all in his first year due to injuries and was given indefinite leave during pre-season due to the tragic passing of his sister. Still here. So are Will Schofield, Shannon Hurn, David Wirrpanda, Michael Braun, Adam Selwood etc. Gaff, Duggan, Cole, Petruccelle, Bailey Williams are still playing and could've left by now. Hunt and Witherden aren't from WA and chose to come here. The desperation of the Melbourne media to push the "Harley Reid wants out" narrative is sad. Chris Judd left 17 years ago after the best 6 year 134 game stint you are likely to see and is still welcomed back to the club when he is in WA.
@tezwah5651
Ай бұрын
To be fair it was partly because of how well westcoast treated him after the passing of his sister that made him so loyal to the club. A bit of an issue with your position here is that none of the players you've mentioned would be up for as big a deal as Reid and a lot of them came from south austrlaia not Vic. That being said westcoast do have a great record of player retention so if anyone can keep him around it's them.

@@tezwah5651Brad Ebert went back to SA. WA is a long way from everywhere. Freo lost Neale (from SA) to Brisbane, Hill and Henry (from WA) to St Kilda, Langdon (from Tas) to Melbourne. Lazy journalism to just expect every 19 year old wants to go home after 5 minutes. Harley Reid will make a fortune whether he stays at West Coast or leaves one day. Judd was 23 and wanted by everyone and chose Carlton which worked out for us in the end. Had he not wanted to leave Perth he would've made as much money staying.
@tezwah5651
Ай бұрын
@scotteye84 not really sure what you're trying to say... Ebert went to a club he had family ties to and was on the fringe at westcoast, he's also one out of 2 or 3 from SA you mentioned so he seems irrelevant to the point. The freo players are also irrelevant as westcoast has always had more pulling power than freo.A big part of Judd's move was the drug saga with cousins and co. Other then that I absolutely agree that it is lazy journalism. I'd argue it's potentially a bit of a play from the east coast to try and spin that narrative and influence him somehow... that's getting a bit conspiracy nut though so I'm not really pushing that claim.

Damo: Gale has to step aside NOW Eddie: we’re talking about West Coast, Damo.
I'm of two minds about this. One I think it's ALWAYS refreshing (and it's a good changed that's happened) that young people are more comfortable saying how they feel (unlike older generations who bury and keep things inside, suffer in silence, and then have that hurt manifest in self-destructive ways) so I'll never critique the kid for saying what he did. I also think any of us who moved away from home for the first time at 18 to attend uni in a different town or different part of the country can relate to just how difficult that adjustment is. On the other hand, there's 18 year old, highly touted ice hockey players from Canada that go play in another country with a different culture in the US (the American south for instance) and play three games a week flying all over the continent with only one game per year guaranteed in the Canadian city where you're from or closest to where you grew up (or the reverse, Auston Matthews, Mexican-American from Arizona going up to Toronto to play). Teams usually pair the kid with a veteran (usually the captain) with a family to live at their house. I do think, given the money you're paid (or will make) it's worth it to pay a friend or family member to take time off work and live with you if need be.

Hahah ur all making it up he said he wanted to take the opportunity to go home .. and he gets to go home when ever he wants .. the eagles have always let any player go home at any point they miss their family .. home sick makes a player who isnt playing at their best. Hes not being treated diffrent everyone gets to see their family when they need to.
Kid would be living away from home no matter who he played for
Gets to go to victoria every few weeks.
People in WA should be thankful they got him and have him for as long as he decides to stay. Just like any WA or SA player in Vic who then decides to go home. They are employees first, and have the right to work where ever and with who ever they decide, just like you and I do. It is only a matter of time before a guy or girl goes to court to claim restraint of trade and the whole corrupt draft system collapses. Enjoy your fave player while you can as change is inevitable in every AFL list.
Literally said he’s not even homesick and yet somehow it gets twisted into him wanting to go home typical Vic media
I just watched an interview where he said he’s not homesick. Get over it Victoria he’s in Perth and hopefully stays at the eagles
Heading to Carlton
Damo needs a reality check, I doubt Ed Langdon gets to decide when his sister gets married. Yes they sign their lives over for 10-15 years but clubs cut players at will so it cant be one way traffic. If a bloke wants to go to his sisters wedding overseas then a club is duty bound to support their employee in him getting over there.
@StuTheDon17
Ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly. His sister would have been thinking about herself, not her brother, when it came to HER wedding. And rightly so. Starting to think Damo has never been invited to a wedding because he doesn't know a lot about them.
He literally says he’s not homesick… the media is a joke.
He said he's too busy to be homesick!
Damo is keep your mouth closed when your talking. West Coast are being very smart in their management of Reid they understand he is still a kid regardless of how much he is getting paid. Play on west coast, jealous he isn’t at the Hawks.
Eddie is Victoria though and though so any time a young good player comes though the ranks fro Victoria they should stay and not take offers from interstate. But I hate it how players use homesickness to get back home after being pick up outside Victoria
Damo wrong again Ben Hart didn't play until 1992. Crows came in in 1991.
He's just going to have to come to play for Geelong
This will be another example of talent going home in free agency and West Coast will get a "first round" pick at 25 in a draft that will probably be needed to fill Tasmanias player stocks.
