I had a line pop off near the radiator hauling about 7000 pounds of food equipment up a mountain grade in Arizona, it was about midnight, 30 miles from the nearest town. We got the line back on but not enough fluid left to move. I wanted to at least get off the road. We decided the tranny might be smoked anyway so we decided to put some fryer oil in the transmission, maybe enough to get it to move. It worked and we drove it all the way to town. topped it off with fluid at a circle K, drove it 200 miles back home thinking the whole way we were going to be broke down after our festival. That transmission lasted until 210,000 miles, went 2 more years with that fryer oil in it. It was a Ford 4R75w.

I’ve had my lines pop off at the transmission twice, the top line to be exact, it wasn’t until after the 2nd time I realized the round plastic snap on ring that secures the metal clip was never installed, after that I ordered 2 of those plastic disc rings and haven’t had any issues since……..knock on wood……..What would make that line pop anyway, I noticed when it would happen I would be on the freeway going at an excessive rate of speed!!! Luckily both times I was able to coast it off of the exit and into my driveway after noticing the cloud of smoke following me……

Watching this video, got me thinking about a couple of things- What is the difference between a Corvette servo and a regular servo? I've never heard or seen any explanation of the differences. Now, the microphone that Richard wears, is there any audio settings that can be tweaked? Everytime the air impact gun runs, the audio level drops for a few seconds, then comes back up. I've missed a few things that are said everytime the audio level drops. I noticed that the electric tools don't trigger the audio level drop, since they're quieter than the air tools. Also, that's a good tip about retaining the clips if the plastic cover is missing.

The corvette servo is the second gear servo that was OEM in the Corvettes, hence the name. The apply area of the corvette second gear servo is significantly larger than the other OE GM second servos by ~35% if I remember correctly. Swapping in a Corvette servo thus generally, based on transmission condition and other upgrades or tunes, decreases first to second shift time and increases the firmness of the shift. This increases 2-4 band life considerably, and there's not really any downsides to doing it. Also because the 2-4 servo is on the side of the case, it's an upgrade that can be done with the transmission still in the vehicle, although depending on which vehicle, the clearance may be tight.
