Max Lucado (christian author) wrote a story similar to this show back in the 90s. A group of people, called the Wemmicans, gave each other stars for good behavior or took them away for bad behavior.

You know those who can will give the person who annoys another like the bumping into someone and making them spill their coffee all over themselves, money to buy a green. People who have the money can buy their rights. What would transpire, if the offended person in a moment before the offender could utter a word, forgave them and pressed their green up arrow? Apparently whoever reacts first must cancel the other’s ability to respond. I hope I would go around forgiving. Because what goes around comes bc around good or bad and only the good if a person isn’t busy cancelling it with negative speech against themselves, such as “F me” or “F my life” or “I never win” etc and gossip.

This was an episode of a new planet completely run on total democracy. Great episode.

They also do an episode a bit like this in Black Mirror. (I think the execution of the concept was better there too💀)
