A bit of a random one today, my fiat finally broke down properly, so I picked up the camera and filmed how the day unfolded and what it means when things hit the fan.... also what wrong with the fiat? is it terminal?

Hey Dean - I'm getting a "Not Found" error on CarVerticals page for your link - thought you should be aware!
Great video Dean. Fantastic customer service on your part. People don’t always see the hard work that goes into running a business. They only see the rewards of that hard work 🤔

Honestly mate I think you should do a mixture of your usual car content and recovery stuff. I'm always so interested in videos that show the business challenges
When shit hits the fan it always makes a mess. Getting through the fucking mess and sorting it out shows a true sense toughness and determintation. Absolutely top episode that really does showcase the various issues us small business owners sometimes have to sort out.
As a former employee of RAC, they are absolutely rubbish. They employ third-party contractors for most of the recoveries (and they pay the least for the service, hence the long waiting times) and if its long distance, the vehicles get link recoveries, so you end up waiting hours at motorway services for another contractor.

Having worked in the recovery industry as one of the 3rd party contractors I agree. And then RAC are slow paying their bills so they go on stop with companies then the number of companies they use drops because they haven’t paid. To be fair it’s not just the RAC

@@beaulocks68AA is better by miles, I've broken down three times in the past 2 months. First time my gearbox gave up in the countryside at around 11am... from the moment i reported the breakdown to the moment they got to me it took no more than 25 minutes. 2nd time broke down on the motorway in rush hour busy morning traffic towards Leeds at 8am. Got to the hard shoulder, reported the breakdown and again, no more than 25 minutes and the patrol was with me. 3rd time my crank pulley split in two pieces but i managed to pick up on it due to the smoke and burning rubber smell. Was luckily at a mates house so reported the breakdown due to me not being in a rush and already at my mates house in a safe location they took around 40 minutes which i didn't mind at all. The best thing is the AA parts and labour cover covered the cost of the Gearbox + labour AND the crank pulley + labour meaning i didn't have to pay a single penny

As always, a brilliant video. Although the content is a break away from your usual video’s, dare I say it, it’s good to see a little bit of real life trial’s and tribulations. Doing more video’s like this alongside your usual content may boost your channel to the next level. I, for one, would like to see what happens next with the fix and maybe even the purchase of a new truck. Keep up the good work.

Thanks mate appreciate it. It won’t be enough for a whole video but maybe I’ll do a short on it… unless the turbo doesn’t fix it, then it will be a new video 😂

The final screen-grab says it all. You have the patience of a saint. Great vid!
I truly admire your perserverance - however you can see this throughout ALL your videos! Well done sticking with it and sorting it out!
Great video mate, thoroughly enjoyed it, I don't normally like it when channels I subscribe to break away from the norm, and I very rarely comment on videos either, but this was great, didn't want it to end, I think a lot of your subscribers will know the pain a knackered vehicle brings, I do, so a lot of people will be able to relate to this video, great job sir
Well done Dean, great to see the other side of things. keep up the good work 👍
I would have farmed out the impending deliveries to another transport firm, that would have taken the stress off a bit,but hats off to you tackling it as well as repairing your vehicle
Enjoyed that, you handed the whole situation well keeping the deliveries running
It's good that you have the confidence, patience and talent to do these repair jobs, even when they are impromptu. Juggling the delivery business as well is impressive. Keep 'em rolling!
Great video! It’s not all roses in you tube land. Thanks for the honesty as always. 😊
Totally agree with your comment on running new motors and paying a bit more, use to spend my weekends tinkering with whatever to ensure I could get to work on the Monday , losing my free time, dumping old cars and getting a warranty with a nearly new was defo the way to go , but great to see your commitment to fulfilling your customers deliveries and also the fact you are showing it like it is being your own boss and having to react to these kind of issues and situations , keep up the great content!
Great video Dean, obviously things won’t always go to plan but you did a great job of sorting things out for your clients. Hope it’s relatively straightforward to get the fiat going again 👍🏼
Ahhhh I remember my own Fiat head gasket issue appearing out of nowhere too. In 2004 on a 2000 Bravo. An annual service discovered it. Oddly, I hadn’t had 1 thing suggest I had the issue- no coolant loss- no overheating - ran perfectly etc etc. Cost 4 quid under a bag to sort. Came back with an air lock and loose fuel rail leaking petrol all over the top end. Their excuse was I was rushing them to get the car back. They’d had it a total of 18 days and still managed to give it me back in that state. Wouldn’t have another free & if it came with Jenifer Lawrence & Gal Gadot on the back seat. Nil desperandum my friend. You’ll get on top of it all - we are a patient bunch.
I used to work on these vans for the MOD and I've done endless turbo changes and it's easier to just take the engine out ! How you've got 217k out of one of these is amazing, the MOD vans were all under 100k and were nothing but problems !! Great video Dean 👍

All I work on is Ducati’s, we’ve got a few with 220k miles and some are still solid runners, other nothing but problems. It’s so hit and miss🤣
This video was the bomb. Love how raw it was.
Great video. Had exactly the same experience with RAC so have never used then since. Endless broken ETAs then getting bumped to the following day...
Watching this video on a day my DPF light came on, wasn’t too bad as I caught it early so a clean was enough, but really the government has a lot to answer for, no need in them. Great video I’d love a part 2 of this even if it’s 1 big time lapse that only lasts 5 mins.
Always watch in awe watching your videos because these days you need mouse hands.. my turbo went on my Zafira and that too was a pig of a job! 500+ swear words later! Awesome video!
Loved this video great seeing different content reminds me of my van 3 months ago when the turbo blew on the vivaro 1.6 bi turbo massive job just like this your coin I feel your pain and frustration all the best
Great video. A whole world of stress but so interesting for a video. Hope it went back together easier and quicker than it came apart
I don’t usually comment on videos but it’s good to get a little glimpse into the absolute graft it takes to run a business. I feel your pain 100% but I’d wager that this will actually put you in good stead as any potential customers now know that you’ll dig in and go that extra mile when the poop hits the fan. Great video mate!
👍🏻 up for your work effort Dean. Just keep pushing on
Really enjoyed this video, although you probably didn't enjoy making it. 🤣🤣 It is really interesting seeing what you get up to in your day job. Buying the cars and fixing them will always, for me, be my favourite videos, but I did like this one. Hope the rest of your weekend is better. Keep up the good work.

I thought I’d seen a video a short while ago saying he’d given up his day job to focus on KZread. Have I missed something?
Ahh Dean what a day, we've all had em!!, Enjoyed the vid but that turbo looked a right pain to get at, let's just hope the turbo sorts it, chin up and well done.
I would say you have saved yourself around £3000-£3500 doing it yourself so that's worth smiling about. I would also normally replace the oil feed line and washers along with new oil and filter.Normally you have a syringe of oil with the new turbo to prime it as well, make sure you do that. Obviously you are going to clean the intake ect.. But well done on doing it yourself.
Brilliant video enjoyed it, yeah modern vehicles are a test to work on, used to be a car mechanic only managed a year still remember doing a turbo on a Kia sportage and that was an awful job good on you for getting it done and keeping at it!
Well done getting all that done , Hell of a weekend
Great job dean sorry for your bad luck mate keep up great work mate 👍
Wow what a job fair play to you fella. And great customer service. 👏
You have a point Dean, i shoudnt really care about someone elses business issues but i was genuinely fully invested and thinking about ways i could help for some random reason 🤣🤣🙈 looking forward to updates mate 👍
Dean, you are a warrior with all that you tackle. Fair play mate, you are never beaten. 🤜🤛
Great video to show just how much is involved in what you do. Watched it all the way through and was hoping that the turbo was not broken and hence your diagnosis of "just an oil seal" would be the final conclusion.
Totally agree Dean that being a small business it’s the letting the customers down which really hurts ☹️ things go wrong Ofc but can normally be sorted out hopefully quickly unless your relying on the RAC of course 😂😂
Great Video, loved it and feel for you. Also you might want to put some coffee in that milk before you call it a coffee! 🤣

Great video Dean, really interesting to hear about the reality of business.
This was a brilliant video! Would love to see a mix of car buys and business running
Fantastic video. Yes, the things we do to keep our customer’s happy when trying to run a small business.
Done same job last week nightmare !!! Love ya stuff
Well done!! The manufacturers must have design depts. who are there just to make things awkward.
Hi Dean, with the non DPF 160 Multiet the engine comes out from the front complete with drive shafts. Easy to take the front clip and rads off, engine mounts, exhaust flange, lower ball joints and drive the whole lot out sitting on a forklift. All the wiring plugs and heater hoses are quick connect. Done it a couple of times. Nice thing is the turbo is right in front of you and you can work in comfort and make sure everything is 100%
You are such a great mechanic, and great video. 👍👍👍👍👍
wow dean what a nightmare!!! i feel for you!!!....hope you get it all sorted and keep smiling !!
Really enjoyed this video. Think you should do a set of sub-series videos documenting your business side of things as I enjoyed this as much as the build.
Great video as always
Sounds like a logistical nightmare! Impressed at how you managed it 👍
It's tough at the top Dean well done.
Great video Dean . What would we do without our Dads keep up the good work John
Hope you get it All sorted without any problems bud
Wow great video , what a monster of a job that is , great insight into what you do .
great video enjoyed seeing you solve issues and great customer service. Time for a new one?
On a positive at least it's now rust proof! Great video as always, enjoy your channel and always watch
Hey Dean, the AA is way better than the RAC, the RAC just don't turn up half the time. Also wouldn't mention about the Remap and dpf, for insurance and legally. Usually a turbo or clutch fails after remaps.
Great video Dean, your the man 👍
well Deane , not a lot can be said , these things happen , but as you know never at a good time , but just be glad YOU can repair , the damage , to anything , so all good ...
great vid , really sorry about the truck
You've had a proper handful with that Dean, hopefully it's all ok when you've rebuild it, 🤞
Great effort Dean- Sh**t happens and you dealt with it like a true gent. good on je. 👍👍😁😁👏🏻👏🏻
Love all your video Dean, but deffo think doing maybe a small separate series on your business side of things would be great viewing 👍
a couple of months ago I did my Boxer, laying on the concrete under the subframe .. yes it's a rotten job, and I followed on with a clutch, .. Yes there was a reason I didn't pull the engine. good luck
This was a really interesting video Dean - should be used on a training course for small businesses - Solving issues and providing great customer service
Love the more IRL style video and see what goes into keeping cars on the road
Hi Dean. No problem with the weekly video. But what a right pain in the Arse. There is never a good time to Break down bro. Especially in the Recovery truck of all things Aahhhh. I feel terrible for you, and it's not bloody easy to fix either. But you managed it eventually. That was hard work lol. Nice job at fixing it. Everything had to come out. Crazy those Fire's can be. But great content though. Keep up the Great Work. Chat later 😅 🇨🇮🇨🇮
Can't believe you still have the VXR. Kicking myself I missed it when it came up on bid for cars.
It might have been a pain for you to film but it gives an insight into your day with the unfortunate issues that can arise in your business. I really enjoyed the difference, keep up the good work and the RAC is poor service I was with them for about 15 yrs I had a bad experience which left my family stranded for 8 hrs lad came out didn’t make much effort and then just left us and wouldn’t recover the vehicle so I cancelled right there and then. Now with the AA and they have been ok so far not brilliant but okay
you probably have an intercooler on the fiat, then there is possibly scrap from the turbo there but it's never fun to break down but always nice to follow your adventures, keep filming
A lucky escape with just the turbo seal going, perhaps give that humongous dpf a clean whilst its off the truck. Keep driving forward like this & rewards will follow 👍
Great video with the change of content and to see a ‘day in the life of’ …
Great video dean the van done decent mileage before that turbo went but big respect on your perseverance with the fiat not that many vans that can do the job that are that cheap the next level would be a sprinter or crafter but another level in💰💰💰 well done 👍🏻
These days the amount of of crap fitted around the engine for ‘ emissions’ control is mad. Makes your life so much harder and inevitably costs much more to do in time and money for what used to be considered a simple enough job.
Well that's a massive job. I remember some van with 2.2L engine I believe from Ford, even changing the accessory belts is hassle on it. You have to take off the AC compressor to get to the tensioner, you cannot get the inner belt undone before you take off the tensioner. You cannot access it under, side or from the top, you have to mess around with extensions and slim wobble sockets.
I know that was a pain but it does provide good insight into your works at play in real time... Once in a while can we see a Van on the Channel giving you more experience working around vans and also us into working around vans and probably raffle it at the end 😊😊
FFS mate glad I dont have days like you, well done .x
Just see to your business, the KZread videos can wait and you'll still have us following and waiting to see what happens.👍
Good you showing what hard work goes into running your own business..💪💪..hard work you will get there..all modern vehicles are a pain to work on..but it is a fiat..pity yhe cab doesn't lift or un bolt and lift like a discovery...to get easy access..👍👌..good video under a stressful few days..
Kudos to ya mate! 💪🏻
Well done to ya pal, it takes hard work & plenty of skill - dedication & determination to run a business, I’m the same - as a mechanic & full time dad - I really feel you pain, Good work - dedication - good staff - family & friends will help you through it all, however credit where credit is due & well done to you great work, PS it’s easier to take the engine out on the fiat when doing the turbo 🔧 👍🏻👏🏻
Great enjoyable video to watch. Obviously, not so much from your end 😢
What a pain. Well done Dean
Cheers mate great video even though it was a twot
Brilliant dean bedt one a have seen 😂 bet there was lots of swearing off camera 😆 a have blown my high pressure fuel pump on my campervan sprinter right excited about swapping it not! You should do more van related stuff 😂
Good job it was spotted early enough and didn't self fuel off the engine oil! 🙂
Very interesting insight to the owner of a business I’ve actually been considering myself since watching your videos - stress, stress, and more stress 🙈 maybe class 1 transporter driving isn’t so bad after all 🤔🤣
feel your pain fella, I dunno about you, but when something like this happens, its totally different to when you work on a car without a time restriction, everything seems twice as difficult/complicated? good to see you cracking on with something "normal" to be honest chap 👍
Great video lets hope the oil didn't cause hydrolock or any other damage.
V for Victory . great content, perfect for a Sunday
Not sure how it works in the UK but isn't a DPF delete illegal there and could void insurance? Might not be the best idea to mention that in the video, especially for a business vehicle.
You looked tired at the start of the video Dean, roll on Christmas and I hope you have a good break from work matey.
Wow tough break mind you its not done too bad at over 200000 miles, keep going and looking like it will be sorted out with new turbo.
Great work Dean keeping everyone happy and doing your own repairs are there enough hours in the day? I thought you had given up the day job to do KZread full time, I still haven't seen the RS4 on compete for cars
Agree with others that this sort of occasional departure from your more usual but equally great content is no problem. I do sometimes wonder though if having a 'buddy' to help out would remove some workload and also give you someone to bounce things off. Cost will be a factor of course but seeing it work on other channels, its got to be worth a go?
Nightmare Dean, hopefully everything turned out good in the end 👍
That’s pressure Dean best luck
Lucky that didn't run away, unless there is a valve to stop that. If i were you id back flush that DPF with water while its out get rid of all the ash. Did that with the SQ5 and its been spot on since nearly two years now.
