Sally Struthers here. For the price of about one growler of rum a day, you too can adopt one of these orphan boats. Don't wait another day. Marinas near you need your help, your love, your furious hammer wielding rage, and just the odd splash of blood. Call now!

The hull and keel shape were similar to the J24 which was also first built in 1975. The J24 had convex deck with no windows, more of a racer.

Is that DCYC on Lake Dallas/Lewisville? Sure looks familiar! Used 2 sail that lake years ago on my catalina 27 tallrig “Marauder”! I painted several sailboats rite there on that seawall by the jib crane! Lived in the 2nd cabin on the left as ur driving out of the yacht club! Good times!

Yessir, DCYC. It's a wonderful club. I haven't been a member too long but I have volunteered there for several years now.

When I lived in Morro bay Ca. The abandoned or unpaid moored boats were hauled to the launch ramp parking lot and an excavator smashed them to pieces with the bucket.

Hi @lazyanarchhist1146 boat auctions happen at many marinas where you can pick up a sailboat that someone for whatever reason they abandoned it generally for Pennie’s on the dollar. Don’t give up!

It's a pity that a nice boat has to die like this. I am currently restoring a beautiful 22 footer from 1963, my birth year, and I can tell you, the hull was built very strong. Here in South Africa, we would so welcome throw away boats like that, cause there ain't any available here.

Mike, thank you for your comment. It breaks my heart to dispose of these boats. Talking with some KZreadrs today with a much MUCH larger audience we thought maybe shipping them in a container would make sense however the cost may not be practical. Outside the Lines would proudly engage any ideas you have to keep these vessels from going in a landfill. Peace & love brother!

what a crying shame, I've been looking for a boat I can afford on disability and they are cutting this up for scrap

Hi Mike, it is a shame. Most of these vessels were beyond repair or would have cost more to repair than purchasing a well-equipped, ready-to-sail vessel. Keep your eye on the marinas and yacht clubs around you, I'm willing to bet you will find what you're looking for. Good luck friend!

Take a look at your local marinas and yacht clubs. Most "free" boats will cost you a small fortune and an education in marine work but if you need something to do, I recommend it for a first boat.

I see this the same way I view cattle being slaughtered. I guess that is why I don't eat beef or pork... Sad
