Meaning, if a Singaporean citizen consumes drugs while outside the country and there is evidence such as photos, will this person be punished when returning to Singapore? Plenty, although they did not die due to overdosing on cannabis, but the outcome of mixing it with other drugs or doing dangerous actions while high. The downplaying of it being a actual drug and its indirect dangers, is a huge problem. It trivialises the drug and its associated harm potensial which leads to people abusing it and - even worse - legitimises a self-denial of abuse and recklessness which is way too common in the pot head circles All of this is of course somewhat irrelevant. Its use might be legalized or at least decriminalized in the West, but it's an illegal drug in places like Singapore and dealt with as such . If you get caught being in possession of it you can potentially face a caning, prison time - or a date with the hangman. At this point it dont really matter that you cannot overdose on the none synthetic stuff and it being less dangerous and harmful than alcohol

This is such a wildly asinine position to hold as a country. While I understand proximity to countries that have large amounts of drug exports, and the desire to distance itself from the types of crime usually affiliated with drug trafficking; Singapore's (and Malaysia's) handling of drug laws is indicative of gross failure at a sociological level as a country. Killing/extensively punishing drug users on the basis of fear that drug use will have a disastrous effect on a society, is heinously unethical. Blanket policy banning patterns of nonviolent (or directly harmful to others) behavior in general are unethical, regardless of situation, let alone execution for such behavior. Can someone destroy their life due to drug use? Absolutely, but that does not mean they should not be afforded the right to make decisions regarding their personal wellbeing on their own. A majority of recreational drug users do not have an addiction to said substances, however puzzling that fact may be to people who are conditioned to irrationally fear drugs at a young age. That being said, some people do get addicted; just like some people get addicted to alcohol, food, cigarettes, gambling, porn, etc. It is a society's job not to shun or punish, and especially not execute those who are afflicted by such addictions; but instead to support and help these people, so that they can overcome such afflictions. To properly educate them, so they know the real dangers of their actions and behaviors, and so that they know what they can do when they need help, and also so that they can identify when they need help in the first place. Punishing people for behaving in a particular way, which society deems detrimental is again, grossly unethical. It shows a society that is built on the backbone of fear and henceforth control, whereas society should be built on freedom and human rights. To throw away a boat out of fear as to where that boat might take you is unethical, illogical, and a waste of yours and everyone else's life. While Singapore's streets may be clean, Singapore is a disgusting place.

The fact of the matter is, drug trafficking is the only crime that is executable. drug abusers don't get executed. Similarly, if people don't start, it won't become a problem

@@combinationova1400 Yes but the problem is what they constitute as trafficking is significantly smaller than in normal countries. Not only that, but there is so little selling of drugs in the country, that a lot of users inevitably smuggle in themselves in smaller quantities but enough that you'll get literally killed by a country. It's absolutely insane, and you'd be ignorant to think that innocent people are not victims here. Also, realistically, there is no practical reason as to why recreational drugs should be banned in any country, let alone punishable by death; so dealers dying for something that shouldn't even be illegal is equally fucked up. It's additionally fucked up, but dealing drugs is one of the few outlets someone dealt a particularly bad hand can use to get ahead in life sometimes. It's like banning sex work, you're not gonna get rid of it, you're just gonna punish the people that do it

@@FactStorm I'm pretty sure the punishment for murder is much greater than for littering or drug use. Death penalty is for drug trafficking. And drug trafficking is indeed akin to murder. Arguably, even worse, depending on where those drugs end up in the end. As for drug use, if it's wide spread it creates the demand. The demand draws in the supply. You can argue Singapore is too harsh on the matter. That's an opinion. I do not believe it is fair to call it primitive. The justice system over there is quite sophisticated.

Not really for certain crimes. Crimes so heinous and savage that no other punishment would be just ie: crimes of Hitler and company, Stalin, Heydrich, Eichmann, Pol Pot, child molestation more than once, rape more than once, committed those crimes if already in prison 20 years or more, preying on staff and/or inmates. Even the staunchest people against capital punishment would most likely make an exception in regards the aforementioned Hitlers and company, Stalins, Heydrichs, Eichmanns and Pol Pots of the world. What they did needs no further explanation. For the other category, those are people who are a huge threat on a more personal level, in some ways worse than mass murder/ genocide or they've proven to be incorrigible by preying on staff and/or other inmates in prison. Other than executing those people, what else can you do with such a person that hasn't been done already?

Let's talk about this. Is your problem with the death penalty in general, or the death penalty on drug trafficking specifically? I'm going to use logic to narrow the argument further. If the problem is with the death penalty in general, would you say that there's absolutely no instances which warrants the death penalty? If a man decides to go to a school and fatally shoot 200 people, before going to a nursing home and unloading a machine gun on all the old people, would you say that warrants a death penalty offence? My example is extreme but if you are firmly on the stance that the death penalty has absolutely no place in society, you would argue that even in the cases of horrific pre emptive, calculated, genocide or murder, the death penalty shouldn't be used.
