Spot on - I think I'll eventually not bother protecting them once the clump becomes too wide.
Crazy how they can withstand such cold even though its mainly just water

They are extremely tough plants! I probably needn't have wrapped mine this winter, but always like to err on the side of caution haha 😂

Yes I want to maintain their height in my garden but I imagine when the pseudostems get to a certain thickness, it's harder for the cold to penetrate so you'll still have some height left in spring.
I’ve never managed to get a stem through winter but they always grow back from the base around may time

I think at some point, when the clump is so wide, wrapping in winter becomes unfeasible and I'll just leave them to the elements.
