💀💀💀 guess you didn't see all the videos hating on the "new social media platform all the kids sre suddenly into" when it first came out. A lot of the earliest users were literally ported over from their original musiclly account. And there were sooooo many youtubers talking smack about it in videos before seeing imaginary dollar signs and making an account, only to eventually abandon their youtube channels and start posting exclusively to tiktok despite the ability to cross post everything instantly, leaving total randos to start stealing their tiktok videos and posting them here 🤡🤡🤡

It really is just about taking out the competition, if they actually cared about our data, they would put up ACTUAL laws protecting our data from apps owned by other countries. Tiktok isnt the only chinese app, its just the biggest. If this craze goes on we should probably expect to see apps like Shein and Temu be banned aswell.

I’d agree, except that two opposing presidents (Trump and Biden) have wanted to get rid of TikTok. It’s banned from all government devices because it’s widely believed to be spyware. But not FB or Insta or KZread (as far as I’m aware). I don’t like Temu, but it doesn’t have anything close to the potential to harm people that TT does if it is really spyware that is literally stealing info on about half of Americans. If it isn’t, then it can go on being what it is.

It's not a ban, if you have TikTok on your phone after the bill passes you can still use it. If it were a China style ban you would be arrested and thrown in jail for having it on your phone.

TikTok success stems from the fact that musically related people to their music, their ambitions. And what they wanted to explore with their message. That database is critical to their Central content creators. None of the other companies have it. And they're not going to be able to sell this space until they do

A tiktok ban would breach the first amendment, so they can't ban tiktok as the constitution is the only thing that gives the government any authority, so breaching the first amendment, basically makes them a threat to freedom itself.

Article 1 Section 8 is going in strong on this one, nothing Byte Dance can really do but throw a tantrum. Likely big players will buy it up, but it will probably be a company that could gain it with little fight from the FTC, so Microsoft for example has no video service could get a hold of it, or the weird suggestions like Oracle obtaining it. Byte Dance may still have the ability to keep a share of Tik Tok, namely under the 25% foreign investment rule.
