It is not about the quality of the defenders themselves, more about playing a team game where the forwards and attacking midfielders help in defence, and the Center-backs and defensive-midfielders help in ball progression. It makes the opposition hard to anticipate who is going to play the ball and who is going to receive.

You can argue the old guard before 2014 defenders were way better than what they have today. Walter Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso. Maradona as manager severly undermines his team without them in 2010, especially when the 3 were in prime form just having won the Champions League Treble with Inter.

Argentina is already on the same level with those teams because argentina got to the finals of the FIFA confederations cup 2005, of Copa America 2007, world cup 2014, Copa America 2015, Copa America 2016 , then won the super Copa de South America ,then got to the Copa America semi finals in 2019 ,then won the Copa America 2021 ,then won the finalisma 2021 ,then won the FIFA world cup 2022 .so argentina has already been to 8 finals and 1 semi finals in 18 years,MESSI WAS AROUND FOR 7 OF THOSE FINALS AND OTAMENDI WAS AROUND FOR EITHER 6,7,OR ALL 8, I don't know if otamendi was there in 2005 and 2007 but I know he was there for the rest.

Germany was the best side in 2014, but they were not a dynasty. You can’t even mention them. Germany failed to even reach finals of Euros post 2014, plus they were eliminated in group stages 2018, 2022. France actually could be called as a dynasty. In 2016, France were 2nd places in the Euros. In 2018, they won the World Cup and in 2022 they made it World Cup finals again. Argentina currently is bigger than Germany. Argentina won 3 back to back trophies.

People can have opinions, but facts are facts and they're stubborn. What this Argentina team has achieved in the past 2 years is unmatched in football history. Not even Spain won the Euro, the WC and the Confederacions Cup in a row (they lost to the US in 2009). France did win this Grand Slam between 1998 and 2001 but winning a WC at home is always easier than winning it abroad. In terms of consistency, this Argentina team is unique. Winning everything and losing only once in the last 4 years (or 47 games), that's unique. If it would be so simple, other teams would have done it. But no other national teams has ever done it. If Argentina wins the Copa América 2024 and the WC 2026 then we will be talking about the best team of all time. Even though haters will still ne finding a way of dismissing these achievements.

I'd say that Argentina reached this status regardless of whether they win the next Copa America in 2024. Argentina won three major trophies, and winning the next one would up the bar a bit more, but regardless it's really more of a matter of enjoying this period for the nation. It's definitely not easy achieving these things. There are have been many times in the past with great players who unfortunately weren't able to win many things internationally.

It is mainly because Argentina’s players are not particularly successful at club level. 2008-2012’s Spain was basically comprised of Barcelona and Real Madrid players who were the most successful in the world during that period. It can’t really be compared to a lineup of players at mid-table clubs in Europe. But either way, I think our players have shown enough that when they play together they can compete against the very best.

Well, half of our team plays in almost every top team in the EPL, the rest all over Europe, also in mid to top teams, can`t all be champions! But this time they are happy, they felt and feel like a true team and practice true comradery. That's one of Scaloni's biggest key achievements with them.

What a joke 😂 first mentioning Finalissima which is a friendly game with no value apart from an ugly trophy. Second, Argentina with Messi had to play five copa America in the span of eight years to actually win one. The final was gifted by Brasil. The WC showed one of the weakest teams we have ever seen win. The level of the rivals was so low but they struggled against Australia and only won on penalties against a weak Holland and in the final against France. Losing their advantage in the second half (not a coincidence). Let’s not talk about Messi being a player owned by Qatar and the corruption with FIFA, the penalties for no reason, all the strange new rules for rhe WC and the referees. Don’t ever compare them to that beautiful Spanish team or other good teams in international football.

@@jit54 copa is such an easy tournament compared to euros. First you are always qualified for the copa. In Europa you sometime have to face France and Germany in qualification alone. Second, the best teams in SA are Argentina and Brazil. In Europe you have Germany, France, Italy, England, Spain, Portugal, and even Croatia and the Netherlands. Third there are only 10 teams in the copa, while the euros has 24 teams, which is a huge difference

2022 Argentina is probably the best winner in modern era (last 40 years or so). They dominated everybody ruthlessly, if not for a few mistakes they did while they were already leading, they could’ve won every knockout game with 3 or 4 goals. They absolutely dominated France and Holland, they demolished Croatia. No other winner has done it in the same way.

If not for a few mistakes, Arsenal wouldve won the league (faulty logic) . Spain didn't "dominate" during the world cup. They actually lost their first game (like Argentina) and won the remaining games by a slim margin. They played well... Not denying that, but they were less exciting to watch than previous "great teams".

Both those games they got unlucky. Netherlands were bested and didn't get a chance on target till the 70th minute. And they tied in the 100th minute with 10 minutes added. IMO, no matter how many trophies Scaloni’s Argentina wins, they should never be considered a legendary team. They never get convincing results and their gameplay is very ugly. They lack the technical quality to make combination plays in tight spaces and struggle to buildup fluidly in possession. They mainly strive by playing a physical defensive game, by forcing the opposition to make crosses and play long balls so they can win duels, as well as by fouling the opposition so they can wear them down and capitalize off their fatigue. They aren’t an example of what proper football looks like.

It makes sense though, Finalissima is held between the winners of the Euros and copa America. But I can see where your coming from, its more of like a final match rather then a different tournament. I personally think finalissima doesn't actually count as a different but it does elevate the winners of the copa America if they defeat the champions of euros since it proves the people who say winning the copa America isnt as big of an achievement as winning the euros wrong. Though I do think winning the euros is tougher but not by as big of a margin as people make it out to be

Argentina have been playing in lots of final for the last couple of years. Only the last two that click. So, it's a perfect team now. If Messi was little younger, it could be final again in the WC for sure. This Argentina team working together with Messi so well. Higuan and some of the older guys was playing for themselves. But this new team was all about working well with the captain, everything just connect so well.
